Those things are fine. I can understand that they may have statutes around their homeworld that is not reflective of their identity.
I don't think that Ilos was their homeworld.

One reason could be that no one knew what the Protheans looked like. But they needed to get people to know what was coming and where to go. So they showed the statues that are unique to Ilos (unless they are else where too) to let people know where to go. They didn't know that the relay leading to Ilos would be lost and could have thought that people would understand that showing the statues on Ilos meant to go to Ilos
I could buy that if the "statues" were not the only visual icons shown in the vision. If they shown the statues, then showed the protheans being devastated—that I would buy. Since the beacon that Shepard merged with was a warning against reapers, it would have been ridiculous to show only icons to get to Ilos, but not the importance of finding it—the reason behind it since it was a warning. We see the statues on Ilos, but it makes sense that since it was a warning the figures we see being decimated were in fact, protheans.

This... this is just too much. I mean, the WHOLE STORY of ME is based on the Protheans, I don't care what kind of role he has, It doesn't matter, this just should NOT be DLC.
I mean, REALLY? I didn't like ME3 marketting or MP, but I could live with all that, but this is just stupid.
He was planned very early in the story (We knew about this since June), so the "we couldn't make it in time" excuse doesn't work here, this was supposed to be in the game, I really thought they will put him in the game instead of doing this, I see that I was wrong once again.
This has been happening with DLC for years now. Why are you surprised by this? And, actually, it's getting to the point that players even want it. I see all over the internet whenever a big game is on the horizon people speculating if there will be day 1 DLC and, in fact, even hopes for such a thing.
If you're getting the CE, you get it anyway, no extra charge. If you're not getting the CE, you can vote with your wallet and not buy it. It's that simple.
You know... that's funny, I know how DLC works, and I hate the concept of it. But I can live with the fact that Zaeed or Kasumi were DLCs, since they were new to the story, something extra. But a Prothean? Really? Like I said, the whole ME story is based on them.
I said that It's funny, because you say that I can vote with my wallet (and I agree), but here where I live, games costs around $100 (Normal editions), and around $200 the Collectors edition (I know, it's just ridiculous), so I really expected this to be in the main game, mainly because I'm paying a lot more for the normal edition that a lot of people pay for the Collectors one.
So again, this is just stupid, a Prothean being DLC is the worst thing they could do, they ARE important to the story, even if he doesn't have an important role, it's not the point.

It probably would have been helpful to add that I have a PS3 so I have not played ME1, I have just read up on it on the internet. This is all just speculation on my part. I have already stated in some above posts that I fully believe that the statues were intended to be the protheans. But I can also see that the fact was never confirmed and was just speculation. I am just trying to get people to see both sides instead of just attacking a person that doesn't fully agree with them. Not saying that you were attacking anyone just trying to point out the other side of the argument.KBomb wrote...

Of course, I understand that. It's no problem. I agree that no would needs to insult anyone for having a different opinion or theory. I was just saying that the fact that Bioware never came out and said “Those things on Ilos were protheans.” is not reason enough to exclude that they were. It doesn't make sense to me they would [the protheans] send out a warning to anyone saying “Guys, watch out! Reapers will come and wreck your statues!”

I agree with you but the fact that they didn't specifically say that they were Protheans or not is the only excuse that they need. Game developers do it all the time, they imply things but technically leave them open for later changes. I don't see why people get all worked up over it, its not like they can change it. Its sad to see when people just attack others because they dont agreeKBomb wrote...

no in fact it wasnt. they had a science facility there wich people fail to realize..
ever stop to think that maybe the protheans conqoured the people of ilos hence the statues?
also liara even stated in me1 after you rescue her the protheans are NOT the first extinct species
but i guess to some posters ( not you in particular) will call that lazy writing

So the protheans made a beacon as a warning that reapers destroyed statues of people they conquered on Ilos?

I'm sorry, I really want to defend Bioware, but this is just flat out stupid. I'm not wholly against the idea of Day 1 DLC, or DLC in general, as it has been said it's a good way to utilise the departments which wouldn't otherwise be working on the game near the end of the development cycle, even if it can come off as 'milk-y', it's perfectly legitimate. The idea of Bioware adding an extra character and mission as Day 1 DLC for those who think it is worth it is fine, but NOT this character. I have read quite a bit of the leaked script, and of all of the new squadmates in ME3 (I won't spoil the other one, although you probably will know by now), Prothy is the most vital to the plot, he adds the most to the game experience, he is an integral part of the lore and overall story of Mass Effect 3, he was written in to the plot right from the beginning and plays, if not an integral role, certainly one which deepens the general lore a great deal. He is the game's 'shock reveal' character, he is the big plot twist squadmate that changes the dynamic of the game hugely, the closest comparison would be Legion in ME2. Whilst not involved in plot events a great deal, he adds a major part to the team on both a lore (you know, being a frickin' Prothean) and gameplay (he is the only Vanguard in your squad) standpoint. Unlike, say, Zaeed or Kasumi, he is clearly meant to be in the game in the first place, he fills a hole in the game from a lore and gameplay perspective which would otherwise be left empty.
Essentially, what Bioware are saying at this point is 'herp derp, let's cut the most important new squadmate out of the game for everyone except people who dropped £60 on the Collector's Edition or are willing to spend another £7 having dropped £30-40 buying the game day 1, which would usually come out at around 90% of the people who buy the game overall, like cutting Legion out of the game for around 3 out of 3 and a half million of the people who bought the game, it's just ridiculous. ME2's Day 1 DLC (well, it was more week 1, but that's another story) was completely inoffensive because a) it was free for those who actually decided to support the guys making the game (needless to say online passes are something I personally support vehemently, but another topic for another time) andit added next to nothing to the overally story or lore in general. There are far better alternatives to making people pay for the game's most important new squadmate, which BW have done before - make it free, for a start, even if you desperately oppose actually putting him in the game to begin with, it's just a flat out ridiculous notion that anyone would ever think this is a viable business strategy at the very least.
Am I going to boycott the game? Of course not, I believe I am a better person than to do that, to discredit all that Bioware have shown us of the game thus far, which I have very little qualms with, by denying them a purchase. Hell, I'm probably going to buy the DLC as soon as it's available, the ME series from a lore and universe standpoint is near untouchable, and any content which fleshes out said lore to this or in fact any degree is an automatic must-have, and the game just seems empty without it, to a small effect, given how it's integrated in the plot, but nonetheless putting content like this, specifically this especially, as Day 1 DLC is a really, really bad idea if they actually plan on having any trusting consumers after the fact.
i agree 100% , i was thinking the dlc was EDI but the protheon ? This is just to suck money to every guy, ofcourse they take this from the game to get more money, PROTHEAN is important and deserves to be ingame in all copies.
this bioware is not the same, they are EA´s ****s
