Wow. This is just freaking low EA/Bioware. The last Prothean as DLC, a character who could possibly play a large role in the game.
I pay 60 dollars, I should have everything in the game for 60 dollars. And I wasn't fast enough to pre order a CE.

What country do you live in?

Yes and Yes - both numerous times

How did you play arrival numerous times when there is not a single choice in that DLC?
I mean there is only one that effectively does nothing.

than why do you think Shepard is on Earth and on trial if not for Arrival? i'm not entirely sure if you actually played the demo or Arrival if you think Shepard is on Earth for another reason . . . also did you even read Conviction (the mini-comic with Vega)?

As part of complete playthroughs for import in ME3 - Like I said I've more then got my moneys worth on all ME DLC I've paid for

Also I think its good mission. Surviving all 5 waves of Project Rho on Insanity is quite a challange

Saying the prothean is required for lore purposes is kinda like saying every player is being screwed because the books aren't included with the games. There's a lot of additional knowledge to be had in them, sure, but they are in no way critical to the plot of the game itself.

Same with the prothean. I'm sure he'll have a ton of lore and interesting things to say. But in the end I doubt it will have anything to do with helping to defeat the reapers. It'll just be extra knowledge which is kinda cool and interesting but totally irrelevant to the plot of the game.
Dude the entire first game revolvs aroun prothean artifacts and vision the entire galactic society doesn't stop talking about the damn protheans and in the second game we raid the exprothean space station and everything is based on "their" technology so how the **** can you even say that prothean squad member is irrelevant? No seriously?
Quite easily. Nothing is based on their technolody. Everything is based on reaper technology. Including the base. Just because mass effect society believes it came from the protheans does not make them inherently important to the story. The Protheans are not going to stop the reapers. They already failed once. They've left their mark but when it comes to the actual plot, aka killing the reapers, the prothean is IRRELEVENT.

Just a bunch of extra lore and a fun new squadmate.

He's not on trial, he's grounded, stripped of command and  brought by Anderson to meet the defence council

In light of what happened in ME2 he would be brought back to Earth regardless to explain the last two years. His relationship with Cerberus would have been enough to ground him

yes I read Conviction - I don't see its relevence, thats also additional content and it Vega's assignment is more of an explanation as to how he ended up on Earth with Shepard

This is just ****ty, Bioware. I'd tell you exactly how I feel about this but I do not want to get banned and have my access to the ME3 single player blocked.

Bioware : Overpriced day 1 DLC alongside a disgusting amount of pre-order DLC, locked and loaded.

Still can't figure out how to implement native 360 controller support.

Eventhough he might not be essential for the story, it feels like a very questionable decision to make him optional considering the importance of the prothean race throughout the series.
You could cut 90% of characters from all games that are not "essential" for the main story. But what is left? An overstreamlined lifeless husk. And that is exactly the trend I'm seeing with EA.
They are tearing this game appart and suck out all it's meat until the bare bones are all that is left. Everything is part of the whole impression, guns characters, armor suits, everything. Lore is important to anchor the story to something.

You play the trillogy without getting questions answered about the protheans eventhough the content was there for the release? This and many other "small things" might leave you with a not so preferable impression of the series and developer.

so why wasn't s/he grounded in ME2, you meet the council (hell they even re-instate him/her as a Spectre, if you let them live)

Hackett specifically tells Shepard to return to Earth to anwer for the deaths of 300000+ Batarians, the devs have said that you're on Earth b/c of the events of Arrival (so Arrival is CANON, not some alternate "side-story")

so cutting content from a main game that we have to pay 60$ for to sell us later as DLC is not dishonest? You sure have a strange way of seeing things.

Since we know about it before release, no, it's not dishonest.  Just a poor way to treat your customers.

edit: I think missing out on a party member is in itself a huge impact on the game.  The party members are what I play the game for, in the end.  And considering we only have 7 in the game, with 2 potentially dead and 1 DLC, that's rather exaggerated.

Not really: Zaeed was a ME2 DLC character/mission on day one (albeit free).  I don't have XBL, so it wasn't until about 6 months after release that I actually had a chance to dwnload that content.  Zaeed is a great character and the mission was as good as the rest, but certainly didn't have a "huge impact" on the game.  The real question is whether this DLC is like Zaeed or something much more impactful, like LOTSB of Arrival??  I'll be unhappy as well if its the latter.

Oh believe me, I agree. I rather dislike day 1 DLC that isn't packaged free with new copies (I think it's entirely legitmate for companies to add incentives for new purchases, until the used game industry starts paying dividends on second-hand profits). It's certainly nothing I'm going to make a fuss about but these kinds of decisions are always questionable. I just don't like hearing the same "It's required because of the LORE" and "how can the protheans not be REQUIRED content? LIES!" excuses for disliking this.

We dislike it because it'll cost us more money. And you know what, that's entirely fair to have as a reason.

The fact that the protheans in general had a significant impact on the series does not necessarily mean that this particular character is going to have all the answers. No doubt the character will provide some additional information and character interaction for those who choose to pay extra for the CE but I seriously doubt Bioware will make a DLC character have a gigantic impact on the outcome of the game or series.

Because humen colonies were disappearing, they were not going to impede him trying to stop this.

Theres no question that Arrival is cannon, so is Liara reclaiming Shepards body from the shadow broker but we don't play through that either. My point is that Arrival is not mandatory, you don't need to have played through it to play ME3.

Look, with any luck this Rastamon will be as worthless as Sebastian in DA2. That way, you really won't be missing out on much but it will be kind of weird when he materializes out of thin air at the end game.

Haha. I remember that.

I had completely forgotten he existed and suddenly he was threatening to go raise armies. Why couldn't he have just done that before? Would have made life so much easier in the final battle.

I think it's very bad decision to restrict such a character to CE edition in time where CE is sold out in many places. Please, put it to standard edition for first-time buyers and make it DLC for buyers of discounted version instead. Or is it your intention to annoy loyal gamers? I am seriously thinking about delaying my pucharse and buying ME3 only when its price lowers to 10 bucks or something.

But I think it is even worse if this prothean is useless (story-wise) as Zaeed or Kasumi - heck, 50.000 old character found in stasis with all the memories all the knowledge - it should be center-point of the story..

BioWare did it on purpose, that way fans would feel obligated to purchase it since we're dealing with a 50,000 year old prothean. And for the people saying the prothean is irrelevant *facepalm*

Cutting content originally meant to be covered by the price of the box is dishonest, certainly.

Developing extra content specifically to sell it at an extra charge is perfectly honest.

The latter is what is going on with these "day one" DLCs, as has been explained numerous time. If they weren't going to get extra money out of it (or otherwise encouraged new game purchases, like the Cerberus Network in ME2), then they would not be making that content at all.

That's how it works for all DLC. If a game is complete wihtout its DLC (which it absolutely is), they wouldn't spend the time and effort to make that DLC if they did not expect a return from it.

They actually had planned for ME1 to have a bunch of DLC too, but it didn't end up working out.  They talked about it all the time in pre-release interviews.
