Sorry Bioware but this has seriously made me think twice before buying the game. EA and Bioware have decided to include a pretty sweet ass character as DAY ONE DLC? I'd understand if it were, say, 2 months down the line but DAY ONE? No, this isn't right. It's like someone selling you a car and then saying "Oh, you wanted DOORS? Yeah, that's extra"
Sorry Bioware, but as a whole, you've lost ALOT of respect people used to have for you. I'll think twice before buying any game from you, or EA from now.
Disappoint people don't make games for love over money anymore.
Boycotting.

Well done BW, well done. And to you €A, your greed is unbelievable.

I wish I still could.
But this is utter filthy garbage, and is beyond exploitative of your fans. I hope that there are plenty of you that don't want to do this, and feel sick to your stomachs at having EA force it on you... Because I'm certainly feeling ill that you're willing to screw over your fans this badly.

Used games make game companies lose a lot of money, it's a simple and brilliant marketing move.
Is that their fault? No. They aren't making games just for fun and for fans, they need to feed mouths at home, pay bills, you get the picture.
I wasn't complaining, just answerig a question
(I can complain if you want, but it wouldn't be on topic for this thread)

So that entire explanation I posted was a big, fat lie? Is that what you're asserting, good sir?

The Prothean may not be essential from a gameplay perspective, but if it has full dialog and such that Zaeed never had, then this is one character that could provide plenty of background and such, due to being a Prothean. Note: 'could provide'.
As much as this will cause people to say 'you're exactly the reason BioWare and EA can get away with it', I will buy it because I'd like to understand as much of the background etc. as possible. But financially, things aren't exactly great for me, as I imagine things aren't great financially for plenty of other people. So, it is sort of adding salt into the wounds that there is extra, 'possibly important' content to buy on day one, after buying the full game.
I know companies are probably hurting too, but...
Edit: People are also right though when they say we don't have to buy it. So, I'm not going to kick up a fuss about it at all.

This DLC should be available to all versions of ME3 and in it's place you should sell the sound track to ME3 as a DLC. I know some executive is reading this right now and saying something like "Come on guys, who is going to buy music from a video game?" To him I would say "If we sell our music in place of this DLC. I'm 100% sure our customers will cover whatever cost we spent to make that DLC and buy the music. Also, the 'good' press we would receive is worth more then any rare Prothean artifact."
Come on guys, we all know your better then this. Prove us right and do the right thing and release this DLC to everyone.

This day-one DLC is complete and utter tripe, and is completely ridiculous. To deny players the ability to play a Prothean, the most important and legendary race in the entire lore, without playing additional money is the single most stupid thing I've seen from gaming in a long time. This is such an important asset and feature to the game, and you are now requiring it to be paid for separately to experience the true version of the game. You didn't pull this with Zaheed, you didn't do this with Shale. This is inane, and I cannot tolerate this.
I went and pre-ordered the N7 Special Edition from Gamestop, and I've got it completely paid off. I would be getting this DLC for free, but you know what? Unless I see this decision receded, I'm going to go and get my eighty bucks back and spend it on a company that is not going to rip off their consumer base. Bad form Bioware. Bad form EA.

But I'll be damned if I buy ME3 if it has this character as a 10$ (or even more if you're UK) as day ONE dlc.
And I would advise everyone to do the same.

How is it essential?
It is essential for all fans of the series! It is a bloody Prophean! This is wrong. As TotalBiscuit said, any content that is completed and plays a large role to the main story should be by rights free to the consumers. Bioware used to follow this form. TotalBiscuit is a youtuber who is a massive fan, of the series and has now refused to by the game because of this. "Everything that is feature complete, before launch should be on the disc and be accesible to anyone that buys it" This is screwing over their consumers. C'mon Bioware you are so much better than this. Lore wise this character is SO important and you have made him, for launch made him integrate into the story, then intentionally broken the game to make more money. To quote Jesse Cox: "Dick move, bro, dick move"

It is a big deal, it doesnt matter if it costs 10 or 100 dollars, this is finished content which should be included in the game. People arent upset about 800 microsoft points, they are upset about having to pay for something that, by all means, should be included in the game. It is NOT like the COD maps, the maps are not integral to your enjoyment of the game, they are a bonus at best, in ME3 we are talking about a character that is potentially integral to the storyline

This isn't really much different to the Cerberus Network, which was day one DLC for ME2, except it was free to those who purchased the game new and cost for those who purchased it preowned.
That's kind of the entire problem: that's a HUGE difference. If you buy a used product, it shouldn't be guaranteed to have the same level of value as new. But this is just kicking people in the teeth, and taking away from development time for a HUGE portion of the story!

Makes sense to me. I actually prefer Prothy over Squiddeans as well, makes sense that they look like Collectors.JaegerBane wrote...
Perhaps. I honestly don't know how its going to be retconned, but I have to admit I find the current 'canon' Prothean a lot more plausible than the squiddies.... its far easier to accept the Collector's look as modded Protheans now and that screaming Prothean close-up in the vision never looked like something with tentacles across its face.
IIRC the Protheans in the vision are largely distorted (they didn't even look precisely like the Ilos statues) and the statues themselves have only ever been assumed to be true-to-life depicitions. What if they turned out to be stylised a la the Easter Island statues of humans?
Also, the Squiddeans in the vision DO look distorted, good point. Nice theory on Moai Statue-esque things on Ilos as well.
To be honest, the only part that honestly doesn't make sense is the Prothean Husk shown in ME2's Prothean Codex entry. And, to be totally honest, I still don't know what that actually is, or even if its canon, since as far as I was aware, there are no Protheans to Husk aside from our DLC friend.

Its completely different, the Cerberus Network came free with the games purchased new, you had to pay for it if you bought it second hand as no money what so ever goes to the developer. However the Prothean only comes free with the Deluxe edition/ Collectors edition meaning that people who can't afford it and by the normal version new have to pay extra for the DLC.
To make it worse the Character is a Prothean, maybe if it was someone like Zaeed, not really any plot significance, I would not have been too bothered, but Protheans aren't a minor plot point they're the reason the reapers have been stopped once before and for Bioware to charge for something this big and important to the plot is just disgusting and unethical.

Its sad to see as i grew up with Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 and to see Bioware do this is....well its sad. Im praying that it was not their decision and EA is to blame but i'll be hanging off on purchasing ME3 until they rescind this or bring out the inevitable complete edition that is...well actually complete. Sorry Bioware/EA, you pushed it too far this time
