I don't understand why people keep calling this complaint "entitlement". I will still buy the game, just not the DLC, but it doesn't mean that I like it, What I can say is, there are only 2 things that most people complaint about :
- The DLC squadmate is a Prothean. With the whole series built around stopping the Reapers, the Prothean obviously have an important role lore-wise. Now if he's in the game, just not recruitable like some said, then BW should really comment on this; people are getting angry because hey are ASSUMING that he's important to the plot, since there's no confirmation otherwise. The only reason that I could think of for EA is that confirming this would reduce the excitement for the DLC. If it is something like Zaed, I'm sure most will just "meh".
- "Unethical business": Sure, BW and EA have the right to do this, but what makes people mad is that they charge EXTRA. It's not about the money. If EA thinks that the game, bigger and better, Prothean included and all ,worth 70 then by all mean, charge 70. Some will complain, but they will still buy it. What we don't like is to pay 60 then pay 10 bucks again, potentially on the same day. If you think the game is more expensive to make, then sure, charge more. Just don't divide it into pieces then sell each part, especially not when it looks like you cut it from the complete product.

Oh jeez. I used to think of myself as a Bioware fan until I visited these forums. The amount of rabid fanboyism is just staggering. It's totally okay to support a developer that makes games that you enjoy, but when something negative happens, it's important to call it out, otherwise we end up with a power mad developer that thinks they can walk all over its customers and forum moderators that are not only covering their ears and eyes to the backlash, but also end their posts with extremely unprofessional and childish catchphrases.

Refusing to release COMPLETED content with important stories is a pretty unethical thing to do. After two games of buildup about the Prothean species, showing the first Prothean and having him be in your party in Mass Effect 3 is a pretty important and interesting landmark. Holding a gun to the Prothean's head and asking for 20 MORE dollars after buying the game on the first day is undeniably unethical, considering the content is finished and is already shipped with the game.

Unless Bioware adds "From Ashes" to the game in a way that is similar to Zaeed's mission, I won't buy Mass Effect 3. It is important to not let these unethical business practices to slip buy casually.

So we assume it has to be cut content just because it's coming out on release date?

Considering it was leaked and downloadable a few days ago, yes.

Except the game was already gold by then.

So... if you're not going to play Multiplayer... it's best to buy the game used (and then just buy the DLC seperately to put the price back at normal price)... right?

Unless you have other proof, you're not going to get it used except on the console.

On the pc, if it's like all my other origin or steam games, once it's tied to the origin account it can't be transferred.

Jesus Christ! How dense are you, man?

There's nothing to assume. It's pretty obvious, Sherlock.

The fact that such an important character is paid dlc is a disgrace. A free character to anyone that bought the game new is acceptable but this is just wrong

I want this game so much, but I refuse to support publishers that are willing to take important content out of a game's story just to see how much money they can squeeze out of their community. I am going to cancel my pre-order and encourage everyone else to do so until EA gets their head out of their arse.

Well. Any discussion on this subject is kind of moot at this point.
Cynical Fleet has been unleashed and will probably do a far better job at collecting allies than you will in ME3. Yogscast is already on board.
Hopefully Bioware won't be as foolish to just try to ignore this.

I don't know who those people/organizations are, and most consumers won't either.

And for the record, I've fought and won several fan campaigns over the years. I'm not some bloke with no knowledge of the concept.

So...what I'm getting from this thread is. As long as they didn't release DLC (regardless of how/when it's developed) on Day 1...then everyone is okay with it?

I think some where along the line, somebody said "It's a Prothean, of course they'll buy it!"
I dislike this person greatly.

Considering he had a much more plot-crucial role in the first script, and was rewritten later on to be sold as dlc....I would assume you're right on the money.

try as I might guys, I really can be angry about this. video game are not a vital part of ones life. it's a hobby and a luxury purchase. it be like buying a Bentley and being pissed off if it did come with a supercharger. even worse than that because it take a lot less work to download dlc then it does to install a supercharger manually.

If I really have to buy something this important to the story separately I'm not buying ME3. This makes me very sad to get spat in the face like this after buying both ME games on 2 different platforms.

The Prothean's part in the script had been written many, many months ago. The very first leak had mention of him.

The leak a few months back showed that the Prothean was going to be a part of the game, clearly it was at least in development at that time. The fact that it's being released on release date shows that the "From Ashes" DLC is completed or will be completed with the content of the main game.

Fact is a day 1 DLC and an important part of the story, that is not available for free to all PREORDERS, cannot be justified. Period. It. cannot. be. justified.

Sometimes I start to worry, you know, that people actually think this way.

But then I remember its just the internet and everyone is worked up over a youtube video.
Phew!

Still not seeing why raising the price of a game to $70 is bad if the game keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Means nothing, the final build of the game was completed weeks and weeks ago, anything completed after that would be unable to go on the disc. The argument that the DLC was leaked early is not sufficient argument by itself to say that it was cut from the game.

YogsCast will get a LOT of people to battle this.

This should be entertaining. You know a game is going to be successful when this much controversy is based on it. This is a huge milestone for BioWare.

I would have been slightly miffed but okay with it if it was free to all customers on day 1 like previous Bioware games.

The facts are that the character has a role in the story and isn't just a side character like Zaeed or kasumi, so it's just so disappointing that they decided to take it out and hold it from users to get more money.

The average person who buys video games will never even see any of this because the average consumer of video games doesnt read forums or watch youtube rant videos, so the entire thing is pointless your not going to get enough support to significantly alter sales numbers.

I disagree. TB alone has over 600k viewers, majority of whom are gamers, many of them rabid fans of him.

Actually I posted a justifying argument quite a few pages back, and no-one has decided to respond to it.

Basically they either start raising the prices of their games or stop making their games bigger.

People are upset because if gaming companies start the trend of cutting out non-important, but established characters from the game and charging you to bring them back into the game it could lead to half-made games in which you have to purchase and purchase and purchase to experience it. I wonder if people would be so understanding if other non-essential characters were cut and then sold. Garrus is certainly not essential to the main plot and hasn't been in either game. What if you had to pay to have him on your squad? Prothy was a part of the main game, and according to some sources he is still in the game. You have to purchase the right to have him on your team. He was not developed separately as a DLC. They cut him and decided to release him as CE content and Day One DLC simultaneously.

For some people, it isn't the $10.00. It's the principle behind it and the shady feel of it all. I can certainly understand where they're coming from. I have the CE, so whatever. But even I know this is dirty pool.
