It's like buying a car without a steering wheel, don't technically need it but you sure as hell can tell something is missing.

Not even close.

Yeah, I'd say it's more like paying $20 on gas and only getting 4 gallons (still a bad comparison but ooh well).

Thats not a valid argument either, for about seven different reasons

Except you do, actually, need a stearing wheel.

Its like buying a car without the leather seats, or the upgraded sound system, or whatever- you know, the way people actually DO buy cars.

Bad example, car business, oil business and especially used car business, worst scams on the planet. We should boycott them to now that we are at it... :P

I've actually successfully done this for 24 years and counting.

I assume you will never buy a car then, since you have to pay extra for options that were clearly completed at the same time as the car.

Are you seriously comparing a game (entertainment) to a car?

Just dropped by to say I cancelled my preorder as of 5 minutes ago. I'm willing to give early adopter amounts of money and you repay me by wanting me to give you MORE money? And you wonder why people hate EA. But it's ok because we all know there are certain sites that will offer the DLC for free. As well as the game. And all future DLC.

I really am sorry for the art teams and coding teams because I know this is none of their fault and they were just doing their jobs. But my money will not be going to someone who is trying to extort extra money out of me just because they think they know me or my mentality as a gamer. Enjoy the ensuing ****storm.

I am dying to play this game, but am about to follow suit and cancel my pre-order as well. I'll Gamefly it, enjoy the single player and move on.

Actually, as I'm reading this, I'm getting tempted. My country has some of the biggest trackers in the world. So I can play ME3 + all the DLC's - Origin for free. But even if I don't pirate it, this will probably be the last BioWare product, that I preorder.

Put the Prothean back in the box and drop mandatory Origin while you're at it.

I know all these decisions are made by EA but you're sullying your brand something fierce. If this continues BioWare, Mass Effect and Dragon Age won't be worth anything but scorn. That's not good business.

But are you?

No instead your boycotting a game that is doing nothing that hasnt already been a widely accepted business practice in other industries for decades. Anyone who boycotts ME 3 and has ever bought a Car is automaticaly a Hypocrite

Yes because there is no reason that a game company should be held to any different standards than any other company. Business is business, you cannot place restrictions on one industry, telling them how they can market and sell their products that dont apply to others who have similar practices.

These features are not neccesary features. Power windows and AC/heat are optional and not needed to drive the car. Missing a key character in the narrative IS.

But yes I will not buy a car if it is missing things like wheels, tires, transmission...etc.

I think this is why Bioware's games can never compete with Bethesda's in terms of sales at least Bethesda released every piece of content they made at regular price. EA/Bioware should understand why Skyrim is such a successful game.

Here's a better idea. Keep your pre-order, and wait till someone confirms/denys the Prothean's importance to the story line. THEN decide whether you're going to get the game.

People complained about the multiplayer being pointless and a waste of resources...

Then they tried it and oh MAN, it's FUN.

So...what I'm getting from this thread is. As long as they didn't release DLC (regardless of how/when it's developed) on Day 1...then everyone is okay with it?

no, as long as they don't develop DLC content at the same time they are developing the product, everyone is ok with that...
bad example but say a company builds a car, and when they are building it, they also make a radio for the car... but when the car is finished, they jank the radio out and tell people "yea... sorry... it costs extra"... why?

But it's bonus content.  The whole POINT of DLC is bonus content.  Why can't it be developed alongside the final product?  Why does it matter when it's developed?  If they intend to make the content, what you're saying (and what everyone is saying) is that the timing of it's development is somehow important.  But the content is the same regardless of timing.

Your analogy is also incorrect.  It would easier to say that they make a car with a radio, and alongside with the car, the develop a CD-player that fits into the car stereo.  But they don't include it with the car.  When they sell you the car, they offer the CD-player as an extra.

again i have to fall back to skyrim... every guild quest line in there, as well as 80% of the dungeons are bonus content... but if they released the game and charged you for the dungeons, no one would buy the game... if they release an extra region with 10 new dungeons and some loot a month or 2 after the game... that they worked on after releasing tho... then it's ok...
they are cutting out extra content, yes... but it's extra content that was developed alongside the original content with the resources of the original content... but charging it extra...

say it's $100ish....which will probably be what ME3 would cost total for DLC and weapons appearance packs....too much?

or you are good with whatever as long as you know upfront?

Cancelled pre-order.

If EA feels they need to pull this crap then I'll decide after the game comes out if they deserve my money. As someone posted earlier, this is a slippery slope. And people claiming that a DLC with Prothean lore is not vital to the story are either ignorant of the franchise or kissing bioware's ass.

Wow.  Once again this content was originally exclusive to the Collector's Edition.  If they didn't release this as seperate DLC, standard Edition users would never experience it at all.

Now by that logic you would be arguing about it being so exclusive and to have them release it as DLC for people who only got the standard version.

They are giving you an option on supplemental DLC that was originally just going to be part of the Collector's Edition.  It isn't critical to the main plot of ME3 and only offers some side missions and a new squad member (Like Kasumi in Stolen Memories or Liara in LOTB... only here the character stays with you after the DLC is done.)

It's optional and I have seen no proof that this DLC character has any significant impact to the Final release product and considering Day 1 DLC has been around for some time and people continue to buy it from several different companies it's going to be here for some time.

It's an option, not an entitlement.

Do you have proof he is a "Key" character to the narrative?  unless you have the game and the DLC and have played it already  you dont have a clue so that argument is completely pointless. You dont boycott things based on speculation and conjecture with no proof it just makes you look foolish.

I like how everyone believes the Prothean is vital to the story. I would like to straighten this out and say that that the RACE is important to the story. For all you idiots know he could have been on the ass end of society and accidentally froze himself and then Shepard finds it. I'm sure a dlc character won't be too vital especially if you have to pay for it and it's just supposed to be some closure for those of us who have been here since ME1 and want to know a little more about the Protheans.

How could he not be importnt to the story His races tech  is what everyone searches for and the came close with the reapers, They are a Big part of the story not just some sideline.

you know what, i have an EVEN BETTER idea.

how about you include the damn squadmate and ihs damn mission and dialogues for all NEW copies of the game, and then we'll judge whether or not he's important or not.

as i've said, the importance of a character to the story does not preclude his inclusion to the game. look at Jacob in Mass Effect 2. he was useless, no one likes the guy, i don't think anyone has used him as a squadmate but there he was.

not every character has to be a game-changer. some have bigger roles than others, so no matter how small or big the role of a character is, if you buy the game NEW then they damn better be in that copy.

This was never EVER stated to be exclusive to the collector's edition.  Any mention of the squadmater and mission never used the word "exclusive" even when The Prothean was leaked last summer.

It's called leaked script and basic logic.

He is a prothean, a key race in Mass Effect lore. Ignoring this would be the most horrible writing I've seen a narrative do.

Does the day 1 DLC come with the collector's edition?

Also what is the DLC about anyways? Thanks

I'm wondering because I bought the collector's edition?
