No one seemed to complain CE would get this DLC, now that its actually being sold to the masses everyone seems to be blowing up.

I'm not exactly sure how it transpired, but it seems like at least some folks had managed to convince themselves that the CE getting it and the 'bonus mission and character' and 'additional mission and character' reports tied into the original ads somehow didn't necessarily mean that others wouldn't receive it for free with preorders as well.

That said, I do take as much issue with the concept as the next guy. But I'm quite confused as to how people are only just now getting angry at the idea that the CE owners would be the only ones getting it for 'free' at launch since I thought that was incredibly obvious from last year on.

Its the fact that the character is a Prothean thats ticked people off, mostly.
Considering hes a prothean, it does seem like he'd be very important.

I suppose so. I guess I just assumed more people had accepted his existence months ago. I forgot how many folks on here were still insisting it was all a ruse... :P

You mean the leaked script that has been significantly altered and outright changed?

Where are people getting this from, apart from a throwaway statement from the bigwigs? Everything we've seen in advertising thus far fits the leaks like a glove.

You've seen plot in advertising? you must have been watchign different advertising

Hah, point almost taken.

I'm talking about location unveilings, dialogue examples from various trailers, general dialogue and plot progression in both portions of the single-player demo. So on and so forth. Also, data-mining of the demo. The plot is definitely following the original leaks' claims to a tee.

Except if the leaked script were still the baseline of the game a key point of the game would be nearly impossible to complete without the Prothean.

I am so irritated Bioware. You've lost all of my faith and I'm really let down by your appauling business practice.

I have cancelled my pre-order and am going to obtain your game by other means. I don't give a **** about the multiplayer, I can do without it

I'm going to repeat what others have said, if you are someone like us who have pre-ordered the CE, then support the prothean DLC be given free to those who pre-ordered the SE.

or make it available for all NEW copies of the game.

so... 10% of the completion of a DLC costs 10$, but the whole game is 60$... see the problem? :)
If it's 90% complete... release it as a free bonus and you'll have people cheering how awesome the company is... release it as an overpriced bonus and you'll get people anrgy for cutting stuff from the game :)

Or just dont release it at all which is more likely what would happen

why not release something that's 90% done... that's bad management... since it would mean that they've used up resources on something and didn't put it in the game.
Yes, it happens in every game... but when you have something that's almost done, you usualy finish it, unless it's complete rubbish :)
I see absolutely no excuse for bioware/ea to do this, except for greed...

It's called leaked script and basic logic.

He is a prothean, a key race in Mass Effect lore. Ignoring this would be the most horrible writing I've seen a narrative do.

I've said this before, but it's the historical significance of the Protheans that is significant to the ME universe, not necessarily this one individual. What if he was just one of the security guards on Ilos, does that make him a vital figure to the development of the narrative?

Yes it makes him the last FREAKING PROTHEAN ALIVE!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT HE IS?!?! EVEN IF HE IS CONSIDERED RETARDED IN HIS RACE/TIME

Despite your need for caps I do in fact understand the significance of a Prothean, however it is one individual, less than Vigil said remained on Ilos which was too small to sustain a viable population so when he dies the Protheans once again return to oblivion. The fact that he exists is no doubt cool for lore reaons but that does not necessarily make him important to the narrative unless he has the key to defeating the reapers, which it seems, based on what information is available that he does not. What he seems to be is a vessel for expanding the Prothean lore from a position informed by their history, just as Mordin was used to expand the genophage lore from the position of an STG member.

Point taken that time. Forgot about that Prothean-specific issue.

Obviously, there is no way that this particular Prothean is important to the plot line for the game.  Maybe there are other Protheans that are, we will see, but there is no way Bioware would stick such an important character as DLC in the third and final game.

Used to happen all the time in the days before DLC. Everyone screams about how terrible DLC is but ignores the fact that before DLC existed huge amounts of content simply got cut at the last minute to meet deadlines and were never seen at all except possibly later through the reconstruction efforts of modders.

This is why people are annoyed.
They believe that he is an important characyed because he is the last of his race. We all want him to be extremely important.
I hope he is.
Id rather not have the only Prothean left be a complete douchebag.

I purchased it for the art book and N7 patch, not for a character that is an intergral part of lore to be treated as an add on character like Zaeed.

Do you have proof he is a "Key" character to the narrative?  unless you have the game and the DLC and have played it already  you dont have a clue so that argument is completely pointless. You dont boycott things based on speculation and conjecture with no proof it just makes you look foolish.

You are right about that - there is no proof but then I bring the question.

Why is a character that is the last survivor of the race your entire  mythos is built on side lined to a DLC  character in the last  game when you have a  fan/reporter self insert taking up a spot.

So yes you are  correct  one should not boycott off of speculation but one has to question...

Just  what hell are they  thinking?   I'm not boycotting but I'm asking myself... that very question

The entire mythos is not built around the Protheans thats half the point, All of the Prothean's technology was still just Reaper technology. The Reapers are the core of the mythos the Protheans just happened to be the last civilization they wiped out.

I'm not saying though that I dont agree that the potential is being wasted in the case that hes not a major part of the game but thats not enough reason to boycott a product.

I know, I  added more to my post afterwards... I agree its not enough to boycott but it  is enough to raise a lot of questions.   Though a boycott is going to far , bring this to the attention is certainly not going too far because its a pretty raw deal.

So you're basically saying my principles won't let me by this game but I'm going to pirate it, that is some ironclad logic right there.

The point of boycotting any product or service is to actively deny yourself it to make a point, that is just weak sauce.

I like how everyone believes the Prothean is vital to the story. I would like to straighten this out and say that that the RACE is important to the story. For all you idiots know he could have been on the ass end of society and accidentally froze himself and then Shepard finds it. I'm sure a dlc character won't be too vital especially if you have to pay for it and it's just supposed to be some closure for those of us who have been here since ME1 and want to know a little more about the Protheans.

If you believe that to be true then you're a fool. I am blown away by anyone able to support this. This is a black and white instance of right vs wrong. This is wrong, clearly...there is simply no other logical choice. They are leaving out a huge piece of launch content to make addition money.

Anyone who supports that...how can you support that?!?!? I just don't understand

I don't believe he's gonna be a waster if thats what you mean. Don't get me wrong i don't like it either, but this is business, simple as. I still stand by my point that if you have to pay for it, it isn't going to be vital to the story. However this just happens all over anyway, sorry that i have already accepted the fact that this is just going to happen.
Oh and also there is ALWAYS going to be a grey area, whether in regard to this or anything else.

I am not upset about any of this because it is a video game and I have a life. I swear gamers do more every single day to reinforce the basement-dwelling, never get sex again stereotype that the mainstream has of us. It's embarrassing.

Sorry, I don't see how any of this has to do with basement-dwelling, never get sex again stereotype. But, this does have everything to do with consumerism and the nickel and diming that has become the business model for video game distros.

However, here's your nerdism: I will "hold the line" here because I feel we are on a slippery slope. Enough is enough, for me at least.

This is definitely disgusting behavior from BioWare. It would have been ok if all preorder's got it, but only for CE and DDE? That is horrible and shameful, especially when the standard copy is $60 dollars.

I bought the CE and I might cancel because of this and wait till its 5 bucks like I did with DA2.
