That's subjective... my friends and I play despite of the unlock system, not because of it. The reason why we liked the demo so much is because of the gameplay and playing a "horde" mode with a class system. I still play BF3 for the same reasons, I don't care about my rank or the unlocks, the game is just fun. When a game has that then it doesn't need such a lame carrot to be on its stick. A normal shooter unlock system like BF3 or COD would make the MP much better to me or at least a store-like system where we choose how to spend our credits. A number next to my username and unlocking a Krogan soldier a dozen times in a row isn't a great incentive to me.Kai Hohiro wrote...
Actually the class cards will have more importance in the main game, here is why:Assumedkilla wrote...
That really doesn't change unlocking duplicate classes/races a dozen times in a row. The system is seriously flawed. Most people I know including myself are playing this despite of the unlock system, when the developers were clearly trying to use it to motivate us.HolyAvenger wrote...
A lot of the stuff people are complaining about are NOT in the demo.
It will not take too long until people have unlocked every class and weapon. I mean the demo was out for only a very short amount of time and there are people who have already unlocked everything and even got the rare weapons to level X. Me and my friends only started playing the demo last week and have already unlocked every race and weapon there is.
Of course the maingame has more content, still it will only be a matter of weeks until the real hardcore have unlocked and maxed out everything and within a few months most dedicated players will too.
So of course you need some kinda of incentive to increase SOMETHING and that's what the N7 rating will be. In order to increase your N7 rating above 120 you need to continously promote characters into the singleplayer game, which will reset a class back to level 1.
And at this point the class cards become somewhat valuable(compared to as useless as they are right now) as they give you a decent exp reward and help get your characters back to level 20.
Of course I know many people will say they don't care about a N7 rating, but the fact of the matter is carrots-on-a-stick increase the longevity of a multiplayer game. And if there is nothing you can improve anymore players lose incentive to play.
Also this system ensures that there will always be a healthy amount of people playing Bronze and Silver game and that after a month people are not exclusively playing gold.
So yeah there is a master plan behind this all, it's not just done on a random whim. People think they don't like it, but it's systems like this that actually keep people playing and keep a game alive.
If people could just beeline to their fav weapons and classses, they would miss out on many opportunities to try out something they don't even know they might enjoy and would probably also quickly lose interest in playing since they already have their "dream" gear and class maxed out.
Ridiculous Unlock?
