If you don't like playing with low level people, don't play with randoms.

Much easier said then done when you've been building your friend-list on Steam for the past several years.

I don't have a steam account. Maybe you should network with the people on BSN.

Headsets are expensive. Mics are generally not a great way to communicate through games.

The price ranges for a headset go anywhere from 5$ to 300$.

So I can't quite believe you. And ontop of that, you are missing out some fun. You could end up discussing your favorite ME character while kicking cerberus behinds, or get annoyed because your salarian infiltrator decides to sing in a foreign language.

And if someone is a shy person / has bad english skills, voice chat is the way to improve.

So what do you dislike about voice chat so much?

PS: I bought a 60$ Headset for ME3 because the MP is that good. (Just got tired of not being able to shout directions at my team)  PC ones come generally cheaper (30$ and you're good). Plus nowadays they don't have to be crappy anymore, they can double as the headphones of choice for listening to music / watching movies.

You quoted the wrong person, but I know what I said. :innocent:

For a college student attending almost entirely on scholarships, yeah, $30 is expensive after buying an $80 game. :P
It also depends. I use earbuds for music because they don't make my ears sweat or weigh on my head like a headset would. And even though I've got plenty of friends and acquaintences, if I'm playing ME3 with them, I'll bring my laptop to their room and talk to them in person. No need for a headset.

Generally, I find voice chat distracting. I know what I have to do, and I'll do it. Kill the phantoms and combat engineers first, res my teammates ASAP as long as there's no heavy risk (but the priiiize) to myself. Having someone yelling in my ear what they think priority is? No thanks. I keep everyone on mute, especially after the first person I encountered with a mic kept shouting and wanted to kick anyone who took longer than 10 seconds in the lobby.

Text chat I'll use. Not voice. It's a personal preference.

Oops. Hehe. Okay, that sounds reasonable. Maybe in time, when more people have played the game voice-less communication will be more viable.

Me... after playing a a lot of competitive games. Mostly shooters, some with RPG flavor (GuildWars) ... imagining someone not wanting a headset has become a bit difficult. I know there are dream matches where everyone knows what to do, but they are usually so rare. :-)

Edit: Spelling. Again.

Lol, well, I wouldn't mind one, it's just not a necessity I find. If people are effective with it, that's cool. I usually don't have problems without it, so... =] We'll see how it all goes once the full game is out. If I can not function effectively without a headset, well... maybe there'll be a neighbor who needs the lawn cut back home during spring break. :P
Yay, smilies.

I blame party chat for the lack of communication in games nowadays.

I think this is a lot of drama for a demo that means nothing because it'll be scrubbed in two weeks.

I bought a headset on Amazon earlier in the week, but when I plugged it in today my team told me I was causing very bad echo. Bleh. It was noise cancelling, but I guess not good enough. Anyone know what one should look for when buying a headset for XBox?

I may be partially guilty of this. I'll leave a silver match if more than 1 player is below level 10. But, I also often leave matches because I'm looking for ones with an open slot to invite a friend in with me. The system doesn't throw any other players into our games when we set them up ourselves.

It doesn't like us, apparently!

- The fact that there is zero text chat at the moment is partly to blame for this...and some people really don't own a mic.  Also, many people leave their mic's off unless they are playing with people they know.

This! It would be very nice if text chat worked in the lobby too, to make it easy for everyone to communicate.

- This is the terrible matchmaking at work.  You should also undertand that some people really do just want to play with people that are on par with their skill level, and not have to compensate for someone at a much lower level.  On a side note, do you have any idea how frustrating it is to sit waiting for other players with a friend, only to have low level player after low level player thrown into the lobby?

It'd be nice (but also complex) if we could filter lobbies based on certain criteria; a lot of my initial leveling up was done with more experienced players who tolerated me, so I like to be in the occasional match where I can help new players out in turn—but it'd be nice if we could choose what kind of party we had.

Hell no, you'll get wrecked.

Even if they're amazing players, their characters don't have the skills and probably weapons to stand a chance yet.

Ive got some people i play this with now, but one of my favorite things about online gaming is the random people.

I agree a lvl 1 shouldnt be in gold, unless you were partied with a friend and just really good or stuck together and were very coordinated, but it wouldnt be worth the effort to me just to lvl faster. But at the same time i wouldnt leave because who know what players are gods at ME?

weapons are up to par.

Cant control your weapons. I dont even bother looking at people load outs anymore.

So just goes to show, high N7 rank doesn't mean they'll be good.

1. Nope, I don't own a mic. And playing a gold match with an N7-12 isn't going to fly. Obviously. The game is harder than people think. I'm not going to waste my time with someone who doesn't even know how to play Vanguard ME3-style versus ME2 style.

Thats quite the assumption, how do you know they dont know how to play Vanguard correctly in ME3 if you wont even play with em? i mean is the game so serious that losing a scenario that at most takes half an hour to 45 mins that detrimental to you? what if its not even his fault the team failed?

I don't find it a problem, but to you, I'm one the offenders. -shrug- Get over it and prove yourself to them.

Naw, im not going to show out for people on a game, im just going to play. Which is the main part that its a game, they dont know how good you are until they play with you if they make public silver games they should be willing to accept whoever joins.

Ill just get use to being kicked my N7 might never go over 20 in the full release simply because i dont care to play as any other class but infiltrator forever. The only reason it will be higher is because of class XP you get in packs.

I too have experienced people leaving the lobby when I enter with a high N7 ranking, although they could've left for reasons other than my level.

I think the OP was just unfortunate with some of the people he was matched up with. Since it's a crapshoot whenever you hit the quick play button, you just sometimes have to go with whoever you're matched with.

Oh, and while some of the high ranking players may actually not be that great, it could also be that they're playing a class that they're not familiar with or they're testing out different weapon loadouts. I don't use the human soldier very often, so I was doing terrible when trying to figure out a good loadout for him that fits my playstyle.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good mic for the 360 that won't break the bank? Mine broke last week and it really does come in handy sometimes. I was just going to get another Microsoft 360 headset, but I figured I should at least look around some first.

I agree with the following level guidelines:

1-10: Bronze
10-17: Silver
17-20: Gold

If there is someone who is too low level and there aren't enough high levels to carry the lowbie(s), then I will find another game because they are too much of a liability. I wouldn't expect anyone to want to carry me either if I tried a challenge I was too low level for because I don't want to be a burden on others.

When you have a public queue system you're always gonna get jerks, leavers, ragequitters, and people who care more about themselves than playing as a team. The trick is to get a good group of friends together. I've had good experiences playing with fans dedicated enough to post on these forums. :)

I just glanced over the thread after reading the OP, so forgive me if this has already been suggested:

Is there any reason not to enable an option allowing players to limit their random matches to players within a range of their own N7 rating (an 80+ N7 player could limit his/her potential random matches to players from N7 70-90, or some such range)? It might be a problem with the limited player pool participating in the demo, but I would think it'd work fine once the retail version is released.

I think most of the low level players join by accident - their quick match setting is on the default "any challange". Bioware should change the default to bronze.

Not a problem. What will happen is the same thing that happens in all MP games. People will join gaming groups so they can play with the kind of person they want to play with. They might even use Teamspeak, or equivalent, to communicate because you have to restart MP when you plug your mic in.

The problem I have is players leaving when they see my N7 rank is over 100 thinking I dont want to play with them. All my rank means is that I had too much time on my hands last week.
