Honestly comments like wanting to remove the gameplay from games really don't help either.

Having the option to skip combat and removing gameplay aren't remotely the same thing. Especially since 'gameplay' encompasses a whole lot more than combat.

I could skip the dialogue in, say, Mass Effect. Does that mean there is no dialogue? No, it just means I can avoid it if I so desire.

This gaming generation is screwed.

Now please don't say that. I Hardly see it as any different than the last. Its only because of twitter, Facebook and other social sites that people view them negatively.

Just wow.
An her idea isn't bad, certainly would make playing ME 1 & 2 quicker as I could just skip the combat and focus on setting up a character.

I think a game without gameplay is called a movie.

Actually, because of the choice elements it is gameplay. It's a different kind of game sure. Gameplay doesn't always mean combat, or puzzles, or whatever. It can mean a lot of things. So long as you are interacting with it and effecting the world of the game, it is the gameplay of that game.

Though I think it'd be awesome experiment to try setting up a multi-choice movie where viewers can anonymously select where they'd like it to proceed.

Yeah but trolls don't have a moral compass. Personally I think it would be hilarious if got a bunch of trolls together and put them in a closet and see what happens.

I would say this is actually a funny example, to be honest. Presents criticsms, but is fairly humorous about it.

Seems more like just plain trolling than "entitlement" - a term which seems to be used to attack virtually any criticism of game companies nowadays.

It would certainly help with BW games if you could skip fights, it would make setting up saves for ME2 and ME3 a lot easier.

I don't care how people try to justify their behavior, there is absolutely no reason to treat someone the way Jennifer Helper has been treated. That type of ugliness is abhorrent and juvenile.

There is always a worse fanbase out there. Bioware's probably ranks pretty high up there though.

Nah, I have to agree, the Bioware fanbase is worse than Star Wars and Fallout.

Im going to have to say Sonic has the worst fanbase.

But it wasn't criticism of the company or the product, but attacks against an individual. Did you even read what they wrote to her, about her, over an opinion?

I wouldn't mind if someone made fun of the whole ME series with all of the idiosyncrasies but, with some class. That video is still pretty funny.

Has nothing to do with entitlement and everything to do with being able to say whatever you want from the behind a screen name.

And it's not limited to people on gaming forums.

Also, this. The ones involved are hardly justified, but this isn't surprising. People are reacting as if they just met the Internet yesterday.

They are probably a little before my time but interactive movies of that kind were around when things switched to CD from floppy.

Someone else might be able to fill in some details or you could probably look it up.

I definitely agree with the people here who have said that bioware has a terrible fan base, one only need to look around these forums to see that much. Frankly this has been bothering and confusing me for sometime now. I truly cant understand why their is so little respect for the people at Bioware who have done so much for the gaming community. Their games like The Old Republic, Mass Effect, and the like have driven the world of gaming so far forward with the advancements in story, player choice, and gameplay that they have made. They have given us characters that I will remember the rest of my life which is something I can not say about a lot of other developers out there. On top of all that I have never seen a developer so in touch with their fans as Bioware is, despite how much flak people give them on these forums. We would not even have a Mass Effect series to complain about if not for these people so should we not be applauding their effort and thanking them for giving us such a deep expansive universe? Do we not owe them that much for trying to incorporate our ideas into their games when they didn't even have to look at our ideas? Gamers really seem to have forgotten that these are not their games the games are the developers and while they are trying to make games that appeal to us so that we will buy them but its still the developers decision on how the game is done. Rather than running the people who are giving us these gamess to enjoy into the ground over every tiny thing that we don't like and demanding they bend their artistic idea to what we want we should be thanking them for the parts of the game we do enjoy. There is no sense in going after a woman over comments she made years ago, saying a developer has sold out, or cancelling a preorder over every tiny thing. There are definitely things in the Mass Effect series I dont entirely agree with but I respect the fact that it was Bioware's decision to make the game the way they did. That is why rather than flying onto these forums and hiding behind the faceless internet to flame the company I come to tell them what I did like. It would be better for all of us if people could tell Bioware in constructive manner what they did and did not like so they can consider all of that going forward. So to close all of this out I want to thank every single person at Bioware for the many years of hardwork they have put into their games that I have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy. You all are a great gift to the gaming industry and I am sorry that so many gamers out there can not voice their opinion in a more mature manner. I sincerely hope that Ms. Helper has not payed anymind to all the people who have been saying those horrible things about her.

It makes me embarrassed to be a gamer if people like that are apart of our community.
Of course any kind of personal attack on anyone is flat out wrong and if someone can't simply see and understand that simple fact they have a serious problem.
On top of that these idiots clearly didn't even think the idea, she put forth, through before spouting their filth which only serves to humiliate them.
The idea was the OPTION to skip combat the same way we can now skip dialouge. Including that option does not change the way they or anyone else choose to play, it does not detract from the overall game or gameplay in any way shape or form.
You want to skip dialogue and just do combat you could, you just want dialogue and skip combat you could, you want both you could.
It's an idea that helps the continuing evolution of video games and at the same time open them up to audiences that might not have bothered otherwise.
