Has nothing to do with entitlement and everything to do with being able to say whatever you want from the behind a screen name.

And it's not limited to people on gaming forums.

With those 3 pages i think one can explain the internet in general pretty well.

Damn it. I fell into tv tropes for 45 minutes.

Wow she got some abuse, but seriously, gaming is playing games, if she really has that opinion she should go write for movies instead of videogames, i can see why hardcore gamers would be in a frenzy over her words but it does not warrant an attack like she got, but also i believe if you are a public figure and put yourself on such avenues as twitter etc.. there can be no sympathy from me. If she never went on twitter she would not have got this abuse. Also they are only words at the end of the day, i would personally only be concerned if someone threatened me physically, people can say what they want it doesn't phase me, but people are different.

People commit suicide over words. Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me is a lie. Plus, something like that over something optional? That's way to ****ing far. They added story mode to ME3. I'm never going to use it, but I'm not going to flip **** over it either.

So by suggesting an option to gameplay, a completely optional feature (I would never use), to a game, they get mad?

God the self-righteous entitlement of the internet is annoying. This is the product of an opulent society. If the civilizations of the world were to collapse, people like them wouldn't survive one day.

But of course, when no one is there to keep them physically in check, they go ****ing nuts. We need shock collars around trolls.

I would support this

The problem we have now is that what defines gameplay for one may not for another.

To me some games are about the story, the characters, the choices we make as players. Not the button mashing in between. Eg Most of my ME1 and ME2 playthroughs are now with GethSuperGun and mods so I can skip the shooting if I so wish.
Civilization, Rebellion and a lot of 4x games had options for auto-resolving combat so you could get straight to elements of spreadsheet management and watch their results play out without needing to play an element of gameplay you didn't want.

The people who are saying she is wrong are the people who are denying people like me have a right to play the gameplay elements of the game I want. I certainly wouldn't stop you from skipping the dialogue / choices you make because you want the other parts of the gameplay and get bored by dialogue.

If anything - that focus on narrative and choice and story element is what was lacking in DA2 and ME2 personally.

Personally the gamers attacking her and other gamers for suggesting that there be greater flexibility in the way people play their games are the problem with the games industry today.

She merely suggested that perhaps a way of skipping gameplay elements that you don't enjoy so you can get to the gameplay elements you do. Really - this is a fantastic idea that should be expanded upon.

Though I think it'd be awesome experiment to try setting up a multi-choice movie where viewers can anonymously select where they'd like it to proceed.

They are probably a little before my time but interactive movies of that kind were around when things switched to CD from floppy.

Someone else might be able to fill in some details or you could probably look it up.

I wasn't aware of that, thank you. I'm not really interested in pursuing anything about it so I probably won't look it up (unless I get bored and go on a wikipedia binge). But it's an interesting concept nonetheless and it's nice to see it was at least tried.

Would still be interesting to see the concept updated for a modern audience.

Ah, but that's cutscenes. She was suggesting the option to skip gameplay and focus on the narrative.

If it's about a game then it tends to backfire. It did in spectacular fashion with DA2. People will take there "I was banned for saying XXXXX" to the gaming media and so the word spreads much faster. Oh course people can be banned for valid reasons. But just handing out bans because someone says something about your game will just come back and bite you harder.

I do support this just don't want them going nuts with the first letter I type. Like I said maybe BSN shouldn't be such an open privilege and only registered gamers could sign up. Drastic I know

Wasn't there a game not to long ago (past 6-7 years) where combat sections could be skipped? Maybe it was just a concept that didn't pan out from Peter Molyneux...

In any case, there are too many people out there that feel the internet is the place to bring out their trashy inner-selves. Luckily, there are a lot of solid people out there too, even here on BSN.

L.A. Noire allows you to skip action sequences after 3 failed attempts

Wow, and I played the helloutta that game too.  While it wasn't challenging (aside from some BS tails and chases), I can see for some people how that would be a nice option.

If the game can support such an option, that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Bioware has the worst fans. Easily.

There is always a worse fanbase out there. Bioware's probably ranks pretty high up there though.

Nah, I have to agree, the Bioware fanbase is worse than Star Wars and Fallout.

Im going to have to say Sonic has the worst fanbase.

I mean, have you
guys seen the kpop fandoms? beyond name calling, the 'trolls' have literally
tried to kill some of these singers and performers, started
petitions to get people to kill themselves. its pretty bad.

but that being said, I'll agree that Bioware has the worst fans in a game
fandom. there's more hate on this forum than anything like, legit criticism or compliments.

edit: awkward moment when wtf happend to my post...

What she suggested is nothing like story mode.  Story mode just sets combat to the easiest difficulty.

It's similar though. It's funny, people here **** about how the games all combat centric. When they get an offer to have an option to cut it out for pure story, they still ****. People have unrealistic expectations.

But such is BSN.

People are ignorant over the internet, if your going to get upset or troubled by what they say then just ignore them in first place. Don't be an Adult who gets upset over what a child thinks or says about you.

I read that same article on kotaku not to long ago. I can understand where she's coming from about wanting a feature to skip pass the intereactive moments in video games, but that interactivity is what make video games - video games. Without that interactivity, you might as well read a book or watch a movie.

Idk about how forumns for other games work as this is the only game i have cared enough about to post in its forumn but the fanbase infuriates me more and more every day.

If i was bioware I would have closed down these forumns long ago as these fans are UNPLEASABLE. Seriously when ME2 was out people were complaining they never got to go to earth now people are ****ing because Bioware is "Marketing Earth too much."

They're enraged bioware is marketing to other gamers even though the way their doing it (By splitting it up in three modes) is ingenious it alows people like us who enjoy the RPG part to play that but people who dont have a mode for that. How does it hurt you personally that someone else is enjoying a different version of the game? Guess what your not any better than people who enjoy COD you just have a different tastes!

This is a critically aclaimed series (ME2 is number 3 on metacritic last i checked) and one of its huge selling points is the writing and plot yet these fans have convinced themselves their smarter than the professionals and think the writing sucks. I want to know how many of these experts have ever written anything themselves as most of them dont understand the difference between plot devices and plot holes. ALso they dont seem to understand how its almost impossible to write something without their being small plot holes here and there. They cant appreciate the amount of work Bioware put into the writing of this game but call them sellouts because they try and improve gameplay.

Im sorry for the lenght of this rant but im getting very very frustrated

Then don't be a dev. Fans are a double edged sword at the best of times. The problem is with Bioware itself. It's having an identity crisis of epic proportions.

It's bleeding fans through what could end up a mortal wound.

PC Elitists they pretty much hate Bioware now.
Anyone who felt betrayed over DA2 ruining their favourite franchise.
People who were fans of ME but hated the direction that ME2 took.
People who hate TOR MMPORG fans are boarderline rabid.

It's trying to replace those fans with CoD and now GoW fans and it's like mixing oil and water. The previous fans and the new fans want totally different things in games.
Myself I just hate half assedness Image IPB

Takes me back to the DA2 post release days where posters were asking for writers to be fired and stupid crap like that. Some of the most insane crap I've see on a forum. I'm lucky that the fighting game community is the best in gaming and they are who i spent most of my time around.

I honestly only come here because most of the posters here are insane and entertaining as hell.
