UPDATE:  Come and join us if you're our kind of Vanguard!

Hey community,

So I ran a little experiment the other day. Together with 3 other Vanguards, we did a Silver run. Half of us were maxed out level 20's, and the other two in the teens. During our silver run, none of us died even once. In fact, we didn't even use rocket launchers on Atlas'.

We charged the Atlas', repeatedly so that it kept getting knocked back and unable to retaliate.

I'm looking to create atleast 3 groups of Vanguards.

Here are the requirements:

- Only carry one weapon to maximize Recharge Times

- Must use a Vanguard with Nova

- Lvl 20 isn't a requirement, we can get there together

- Must have Nova and Charge Maxed out

- Must use a Headset
-Must have good sense of Humor :wizard: (most important)

My idea is thus: If we're able to create a group of Vanguards that all have Area Charge that focuses on maximum recharge time, both shooting for the 25% of not using up cooldowns or for Nova's, not using up Barriers.

My idea, is that with these skill sets, we can have 4 Vanguards, all rushing at the same targets together, All throwing down Nova's one after the other.

I want to do a Gold run with this strategy.  So, Champion Vanguards, where are you? :o

I meet all criteria except the headset - though it's something I am working on changing :) As is, I'm a level 20 Vanguard with everything maxed, except with no points in Shockwave. I only use a Carnifax for the added Charge bonus. I haven't done Gold, but I survived one Silver round and pretty easily survived a Bronze with only a level 19 Adept at my side.

Like I said - no headset. But if you can't find enough with headsets, I'm game.

I had this exact idea and was going to post it here to see if someone would test it. I got the idea after me and another Vanguard were charging the same group of enemies and using Nova and it was so easy when we were together.

However, I wasn't going to be as exact as you were with the Area charge/25% chance of not using cooldowns. The cooldown one being just a gimp to the build in the first place.

4 Vanguards charging in and Novaing together (especially with the half nova) would be enough on their own to test this theory and in my opinion, do really, really well.

Have fun if you charge into turret fire though...

Edit: By the way, if you don't care too much about no area charge/25% thing, I'll do this.

Does Bioware really not see a problem with vanguards being able to stun lock mechs?
Vanguards are going to be Ridiculous against husk

Charge CD needs to be increased by 1 second

And that would just kill any vanguard gameplay on gold.

Oh, wait... I missed the part about area charge. No, I didn't take that evolution. Oh well, maybe another time :)

Funny you mention this. A guy and I were stuck with just the two of us on Silver and nearly ran the whole gauntlet as Vanguards with a similar method. We struck out just nearing the end of I believe the tenth wave; Atlus and Phantom overload, but it was quite the rush. I certainly believe it is a viable strategy on Gold.

I'm up for it whenever you would like to give this a whirl and have all the aforementioned criteria. My current weapon of choice is either the Avenger or Phalanx with a few upgrades.Would be nice to get some use out of my headset too.

Edit: Area Charge I'll assume means taking Radius. If so then I opted not to take that evolution. which may be a deal breaker for you. Lemme know. GT is my username.

I'm a level 20 vangaurd, but I think I might be disqualified because of the humor part. And I took different evolutions.

Forget that. 4 Krogan Soldiers imo.

Maybe I'll get Area charge in the full game with one of my two vanguards. I would not mind wanting to join this shock squad for long term. But my current evolutions on my FemVan aren't exactly the best.

As far as having good humor, that's never in question. I'm a charging my charge!

I agree with this topic: Vanguards are beastly alone, but the best thing to compliment them is more Vanguards.

However, I play on the PC version. My Origin ID is SushiSquid if anyone wants a Vanguard (or other classes) around to smash things. I won't be playing the demo as much anymore, but I plan to mainly be a Vanguard again in the full game.

I have lvl 20 Vanguard as well. Not Specc'd for Area Charge or 25% chance on either, but I still dominate. Would be glad for some Esprit de Corps.

This isn't the optimum Charge-Nova build. Picking those two requires forgoing much better options. Pierce is almost necessary on Nova to have any real damage against shields, barriers, and armor. On Charge, Barrier improves survivabilty if something goes wrong after a Charge, plus doubles Nova damage (because Nova's listed damage and force are multiplied by your percentage of remaining barrier). Picking the 25% chance options on either is a terrible idea and really weakens you.

I'm down.  Starting running a Vanguard the day MP unlocked, became so addicted I got my Vanguard to lvl 20 in 3 nights haha.  I run with just the Scimitar X, due solely to it being the lightest Shotgun I have.  My ranks are already set with Charge having Radius / Shotgun Damage / Barrier, Nova with Radius / Half Blast / Pierce, and Alliance Training with Power Damage & Capacity / Power Damage / Weapon Weight.

I gotta say, since you're proposing a squad theme for a run, the other night I was apart of what ended up being the quickest Silver mission breeze through I've ever experience, as well as the brightest and loudest. Our perfect biotic squad: 2 Asari Adepts, a Drell Vanguard, and a Human Vanguard.  Denotation Domination!

We thought going in Atlases might be a little tough... Nope.  They're easy when you can charge and denotate everyone else on the map first and it's easy to stun lock them with 2 charging vanguards and two Asari with maxed throws.  Nothing touched us.

I've seen two Vanguards just completely murder waves on their own. Made my CQC Infiltrator feel 100% worthless. If you do get some good runs with a four-man Vanguard run, you must post videos. The carnage will be glorious.

QFT. Without Pierce and Barrier you'll get ripped up on Gold.

Headsets I feel are too important for Gold. You would be able to communicate how many medigels you've got left, how many emergency rockets, etc.

As for the specific Vanguard build, that's a far less important requirement. But having only 1 weapon is key. The idea is to overwhelm the enemy through sheer brute force of Charges and Novas.

Also, I've found that Scimitar shotgun to be superior to the Katana, when upgraded past level 8, simply due to the higher ammo clip capacity. As for wielding a Claymore, I've not had the fortune of unlocking that yet.

So I'll send out some PM's to you who are interested, I'd like to form more than a group of just 4, that way, we'd be able to form a squad of atleast 4 even if one or two of us wouldn't be online at any given time.

So once more, Character builds are less important to me, but I do feel that being able to fire off two Nova's is definitely key. Headsets however are definitely important. It's nice to keep up a good moral through calling out enemies, and lets be honest, it's cool to chat with fellow gamers who've got a good sense of humor and aren't above having fun. :)

Thanks to guys so far for talking about Vanguard build strategies, I'm going to look over it again tonight, I'll be glad when we can respec in the main game.

I'm going to head to bed but I'll check in tomorrow :)
