Besides, the only things you ever need a gun for are Guardians (Charge-headshot). It's also safer to weaken turrets from behind cover before Charge-Nova, and Charge-backflip-shoot is safer against Atlus mechs due to their instant-kill.

Hey community,
So I ran a little experiment the other day. Together with 3 other Vanguards, we did a Silver run. Half of us were maxed out level 20's, and the other two in the teens. During our silver run, none of us died even once. In fact, we didn't even use rocket launchers on Atlas'.
We played two gold runs while we were waiting for u earlier today. We completed one but lost the second on wave 10. I'm down for trying it with all vanguards if ya want. You already have my GT so it me up tomorrow if you want to try then.
And to everyone else. You must try at least one silver run with all vanguards. The Atlas wont know what to do lol

I disagree. I use a shotgun and a heavy pistol and my cooldowns are just fine. Charge then Nova and by the time the animation on Nova is done I'm ready to charge again. Simple.SushiSquid wrote...
A Human Vanguard should never be using a shotgunl.

You play on Bronze, then. Pistols do better damage than shotguns and don't mess with your cooldown. It sucks, but there really isn't a good reason to use a shotgun. SMGs are all worthless too, unfortunately.

I do the same thing as him (shotgun + pistol) and my Vanguard WRECKS on Silver/Gold

I'll just ask this: what purpose does that shotgun serve? Charge-Nova kills very quickly, and for turrets, guardians, and atlus, your pistol does better damage per second than your shotgun. Why point is there to bringing along the shotgun? It slows your Charge-Nova and gives you no benefit.
I play with a person on my Origin friend list who runs a Vanguard with an assault rifle and sniper rifle. It's not exactly unplayable, but when our scores are shown at the end, you see how much more effective it is to use just a pistol.

You forgot to add in your opinion. I carry a Katana only and my cooldown is insane.SushiSquid wrote...

Adding "in my opinion" after something I wrote is redundant.
Tenths of a second are the difference between living and dying when you charge into a group of enemies on Gold. The lower your cooldown, the less likely you are to die.
Besides that, as I said, pistols do better damage than shotguns anyway. There just isn't a point to using something weaker and heavier.

silver and gold mostly. Bronze just isn't the same after doing gold. Silver is still a good challenge though.SushiSquid wrote...

When you travel in a pack of blood thirsty vanguards, shotguns are actually preferrable.
If all 4 vanguards are going to be fighting together, then they'll need to be right where the enemy is, If they're right where the enemy is, then you'll need to have weapons that are close enough and hard hitting enough to cause knockback effect. The other day, I charged into a group of 4 phantoms on gold. In the ensuing chaos, here's how it went down:
Right before I hit the pack of Phantoms, an engineer through a chain overload, which stripped 60% of their shields. I followed with a heavy melee, rolled backwards , and then through down a nova, followed up with two shotgun blasts to a phantom who was too close, then threw down another Nova, followed by a charge since I was getting shot by the phantoms who were backpedaling. Three shotgun blasts, and 5 novas later, they were all dead. A heavy pistol can't deal as much damage when it comes to trying to fit as much damage in the smallest window as possible.

We charged the Atlas', repeatedly so that it kept getting knocked back and unable to retaliate.
I'm looking to create atleast 3 groups of Vanguards.
Here are the requirements:
- Only carry one weapon to maximize Recharge Times
- Must use a Vanguard with Nova
- Lvl 20 isn't a requirement, we can get there together
- Must have Nova and Charge Maxed out
- Must use a Headset
-Must have good sense of Humor(most important)
My idea is thus: If we're able to create a group of Vanguards that all have Area Charge that focuses on maximum recharge time, both shooting for the 25% of not using up cooldowns or for Nova's, not using up Barriers.
My idea, is that with these skill sets, we can have 4 Vanguards, all rushing at the same targets together, All throwing down Nova's one after the other.
I want to do a Gold run with this strategy. So, Champion Vanguards, where are you?
I think you can carry 2 guns if they are light enough. I got Avenger and Pistol and 200% recharge.

I'm in. Level 20 vanguard (M-5 Pistol only, gonna try avenger X today, I think it will keep me at -200%, but not sure). Have mic

Avenger should keep you +200%. I can even keep Avenger and the Phalanx together still having +200%.

kinda sucks how we have to sort of clip our wings to use the claymore but those one hit kills are oh so sweet.WizenSlinky0 wrote...
My vanguard would be rather unhelpful to this experiment, considering I have her weighed down with the Claymore. Ah, sweet, sweet claymore.

shockwave without the shotgun 2.19
charge witout the shotgun 3.08
shockwave with the shotgun 2.29
charge with the shotgun 3.23
Not too much of a difference if you ask me. And as I said before once the animation on Nova is done charge will be ready so I don't see the problem.
And your wrong about shotguns being lackluster. My Katana hits more than twice as hard as my Phalanx. And my weight is 186% with both weapons so that isn't bad all.

They really, really are. And the range is surprisingly good.
When I use my vanguard I tend to use charge more as a shield recharger and knock-back if I happen to miss my shot or take too much damage. Plus you always need to know where those ammo boxes are, and preferably, have one within a short distance to reload often.
But man, there's nothing quite like unloading a claymore into a phantoms face.
