Every time I loaded up ME2 that messaged appeared and I had to restart the game. It became REALLY annoying with time. I'd like to know if this is gonna happen in ME3 to know how to fix it before it starts happening.

What was the root cause of this error message in ME2?

UPDATE: I AM getting the same error message now in the demo. First playthrough was fine, but now it's back again yeeeehaaaaaaaww

Probably a sing in change occured when game was originaly saved. Did you logout accidentaly, or did your xbox reboot. The sign in change error only occurs in corrupt saves due to player singing in or out during the saving procedure or xbox reboots and autosaves. So try not to log out when saving and also make sure that your xbox is glich free. Clean out your memory buffers.

I've tried moving the saved files to a USB and off the Xbox, but the error persists: "A sign-in change occurred. Sign out of your gamer profile to continue." It happens in the Mass Effect 3 demo, also, so I'm hesitant to believe it has anything to do with my Mass Effect 2 saves. I think it is an EA account problem, but I've spoken to them on multiple occasions and they can't seem to figure it out, and I've tried reconnecting my games to the account, to no avail. I really hope someone finds a fix to this problem, I would hate to be greeted by this message every time I play Mass Effect 3.

I started getting this with the ME3 demo and now that I picked up ME2 again to get another character through it, to my surprise it happens there too! And it keeps me from importing characters.
I'm not really buying that it would have anything to do with me, still using the same console, same account, same everything and I haven't touched the saves.

Ever since the new Xbox update, have you downloaded your profile to another console somewhere and then sign back in to your console afterwards? I moved all my ME2 saves off my console, but I still get the message in both ME2 and the ME3 demo, so I don't think it has anything to do with the saves. I tried re-downloading my gamertag and clearing the hard drive memory cache, but that didn't work either.

This is a known problem, and is an EA account / log-in server issue. To verify this: Take your xbox offline, so it won't connect to live. Now start up ME 2 / ME3 demo, and be surprised: everything is fine! You can even import characters now.

I wonder why they insist that it isn't their problem? It has happened for quite a lot of players now (I got it after the dashboard update). <_<

They really need to address this issue, every time I contact support they tell me it has to do with the saves or my internet connection. I know plenty of my friends on Xbox who don't have this problem, and my internet is fine. I wish EA or Bioware would at least acknowledge it.

Over the past week I have been on the phone with EA. They said that it was to do with servers and that when you start up Mass Effect 2 or the Mass Effect 3 Demo its trying to connect to another account. I know for certain it is not the saves or DLC. I have deleted all the downloadable content and moved my saves and the Mass Effect 2 Importer to a memory stick and deleted the disks from my hard drive. The error still came up.

I then thought that it was conficting with the Mass Effect 1 saves, so I transfered all my Mass Effect 1 saves and a file called "Gamer Profile" which is with the Mass Effect 1 saves and Mass Effect 2 saves to a USB along with transfering the Mass Effect 2 Importer. (but re-downloaded all the DLC and reinstalled my game back to the hard drive). Started the game. No sign-in error at first all was good, went to import my character No sign-in error. I then decided to test the theory again by trying to re-import my saves again. I got a sign-in error. If anyone wants to re-try out putting Mass Effect 1 "Gamer Profile" file and Mass Effect 2 saves and the Mass Effect 2 Importer on a USB stick, please do as I am keen to know the results.

The guy I spoke to at EA said they are taking the matter to one their expert technician people and would e-mail me. So far no I have had no e-mail.

Also if it had to do with the saves, why would the error occur when you start up the Mass Effect 3 Demo?

As of now the only fix is what NekOoNinja said switch your Xbox on sign out of your profile then start Mass Effect 2, sign-in to your profile then play as normal. If you want to import your Mass Effect 1 save, disconnect from the internet (If your wireless you have to go through Network Settings on your Xbox) then start up Mass Effect 2 import your character then reconnect to Xbox LIVE when you can first save.

I have been trying for over 24 hours and I have given up and believe that it has to do with EA.

Sorry for the long read

Thank you for that information! I'm going to try what you suggested right now and report the results. Did you get the error when trying to import your ME1 saves into ME2, or after putting them back onto the hard drive?

UPDATE: I moved all of my game saves from both ME1 and ME2 onto a USB, including the Gamer Profile item from ME1. And I STILL get the "Sign-in change" message. It must be what you described, trying to access another EA account. I've only ever connected to the one account that I have, so I am now at a loss for what it could be. When they email you back, please update us with what they say.

No problem,

It worked once when I transfered all my saves from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 along with the Mass Effect 2 importer. I then did the same again and I got the error message. I put all my Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 saves and the Mass Effect 2 importer back and I got the error messages again while importing a character.

I have had an e-mail back from EA which they said to try clearing the cache. I did what they suggested and it did not work, and have re-e-mailed them.

If you want to try goto System then Memory highlight the Hard Drive then press Y select clear cache. Start the game, try importing a Mass effect 1 save.

EA also said this "I assure you my continual co-operation in getting this resolved" So hopefully this will get solved before Mass Effect 3.

I do have faith in EA I always have done. I will update when I have received a reply.

Whatever happens though I suggest we all keep positve and excited that Mass Effect 3 will be the best game we ever played.

I've definitely tried clearing my hard drive cache after every time I move my saves or re-downloaded my profile. I still get the error message every time.

Just go a reply from EA again.

This is what they said:
CHECK THE GAME DISK

1. If there are any noticeable scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try to clean them off by using a non-abrasive cotton cloth.
Note: Do not rub hard and do not rub in a circular motion as this could further damage the game disc.

2. If there aren’t any noticeable scratches or smudges on the surface of the game disc, try using that game disc in another Xbox 360.
a. If the game disc works in another system, this is an indicator that your 360 may be damaged. For information on getting your system repaired or replaced, you will want to contact Microsoft directly for assistance at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.
b. If the game disc does not work in another system, this is a good indicator that the disc is damaged or defective. To acquire a replacement game disc you will want to refer to your manual for warranty information specific to your product.

The options we recommend for game replacement, if needed, are as follows. You may replace the game through the store where you originally purchased it, if that option is still possible. This is by far the faster way to replace your game with a new copy. If the store is no longer able to replace your game, you may then make use of the EA Warranty, found on the inside back of your game manual, or you may use this link: http://warrantyinfo.ea.com/

I hope that isn't their final response. I doubt so many people could have faulty game disks. And it's definitely not the console, considering every other game, including EA games work fine. If ME2 were on Games on Demand, that wouldn't even be a problem.

EDIT: Wait. That doesn't make any sense as to why it would affect the ME3 demo. That's ridiculous.

I am going to try taking my disk round my friends, I am also going to take my hard drive as well.

You never know, I am transfering my Gamertag and my saves for ME1 and ME2 on to my USB. Then I am going to take my hard drive out, and just use my USB. I will keep you updated.

That doesn't make any sense, though. A faulty ME2 disk shouldn't have any affect on the ME3 demo.

When I had removed all of my save files from my hard drive, I was still able to use the Import Utility to import completed saves from ME1, which didn't make any sense. The first time I tried, I got the error, but was able to import ME1 saves the second and third times without error. I had heard that ME1 creates "invisible autosaves" on your console when you complete a playthrough, so maybe the issue lies with the ME2 Import Utility (which still doesn't explain why the error persisted when all files from both games were removed). I don't know, it still seems like an EA Account thing.

I have tested the game with all my Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 saves and Gamertag on my USB and I started the game with my Xbox 360 Hard Drive out. I have had no sign-in errors.

Does that mean it's a problem with something on the hard drive?

Yes, it has to be something on the hard drive. I had the same problem with the Mass Effect 2 Import Tool as you it showed saves that were not even there. So maybe your right and its the invisible autosave.

The other thing to try is to re-format the hard drive. I am trying to keep that to a last resort...

There was a time it even worked fine. My significant other and I share the same Xbox 360, each with their own gamer tags. Around the time of the dashboard update, my account started acting up: right after finishing a ME 1 playthrough, I hopped over to ME 2 to import my character. Instead, the game bombarded me with error messages, after starting up ME2: Corrupt content it said, please redownload the DLC.

I did, but without success. While his account has zero issues, mine remains ridden with the "a sign-in change occured" as long as the GT is signed in to xbox live. It doesn't even make sense, as the DLC's are registered to my XBL/EA account. Unplugging the ethernet cable fixes this. But that cannot be the permanent solution.

So they (EA, whoever is responsible) should really start digging deeper, as it is a little ridiculous.

For the ME 3 demo, it is already more than a nuisance, as the error busts game invites - atleast those coming from outside the game. So it is most likely unrelated to DLC's or game disks.

I am not getting ghost saves. Everything looks in order.

This is starting to make no sense. How when I only have my Gamertag and my saves from ME1 and ME2 on my USB I have no errors.

Time is ticking...
