I had the Games on Demand version of Mass Effect 1, but I will try deleting that and the ME2 discs in a little while and update my results. I'll also try with turning off cloud storage.

This? I bought ME 1 a second time, as Games on demand version, foolishly hoping it came with the original VO. (Of course it didn't.)

With so many windows related things, after booting the xbox a second time, the miracle happened: no more sign-in errors!

I uninstalled ME 1 + 2 with all DLC and saves still present on the HDD. So people who are getting this issue should give this a go.

Remember to restart the xbox!

I deleted the ME1 Games on Demand file, and both ME2 discs from my hard drive, and I left all saves and DLC and even the Import Utility on the hard drive. I turned off cloud storage, and I haven't received the message yet (and this is after not attempting to after a few hours, which usually prompts the message again). So far it seems like this has done the trick for me.

Great that some people finally found a fix for this. Hope it helps some more to enjoy ME3's launch unimpeded. :-)

Unfortunately, I just got the error in the ME3 demo again. Is it recommended that I re-download it?

Edit:
False alarm. I deleted the installed ME2 discs and all that, made sure Cloud storage was turned off and it seemed to work.
But now I got the sign-in change error anyway.

I have the sign in error as well now.

Is everyone here playing wireless?

Also I have just re-e-mailed EA again, telling them that its not a hardware problem or a disk read problem and for them to triple check my account, and to be able to read a reply within the next 24 hours.

I will update you on a reply. If I get a reply.

All right, I have just had a call from Microsoft. They said that it could be on of two things:

A) Hardware problem
B) EA Gamertag problem

Tomorrow I am taking my hard drive and game to a friends to check for the error. However before I do that I am going to ring up EA again and what Microsoft told me was to see if they can re-link my Gamertag to my account.

So I suggest that you all chill out from trying stuff, and I will get back to you tomorrow with the hopefully an answer.

I am determined to get this problem solved by the American release date of Mass Effect 3.

It appears to be so random, thoguh. The error won't pop up for me anymore, at least in the ME 3 demo, haven't checked for ME2.

And a hardware issue... I hope not. The xbox isn't even 2 years old.

Thanks zico291, for investigating further.

No problem anytime,

Same I don't have the error in the Mass Effect 3 Demo but I still have it Mass Effect 2. They did have to restart the Mass Effect 3 server earlier though, because BSN, Bioware and the Mass Effect 3 website were down.

After trying again today, I now have the same error again in both ME2 and the ME3 demo. And I am playing wirelessly. Since it can be bypassed by playing offline, it probably has something to do with the EA account.

It didn't happen to me today. So either it's fixed or it's random

Something I noticed:
The Cerberus network used to work for both XBL accounts. One day however, Mass Effect 2 decided that only I could access it (which is odd, NFS:Hot Pursuit uses an EA online pass and let us both play just fine).

And since I had to re-install ME2 so my other half can finish his ME2 import save, the error popped back up for the ME3 demo.

Does that mean we might not even be able to play multiplayer with a single copy of ME3, should he decide to get XBL Gold again? I hope not. :(

Not being able to play multiplayer and import my saves is what's worrying me the most.

Exactly. If this error is going to affect the ability to import the saves I've been working on since ME1, it'd be nice to get a mod in here and tell us what steps we could take before ME3 comes out to ensure we won't have any import problems. Or at least tell us why we're getting the sign-in change error and how to fix it.

I spoke to EA and they said that it was not there problem I asked them to check my account and they did, it was fine. The guy said he had the same problem. He has also read that loads of people have had the problem.

He also said that Bioware should be working on a patch to fix the problem.

I think that it a Cerberus Network problem.

I am still waiting for Microsoft to ring me back.

Also he said to me that it is NOT the saves at the problem, and the DLC.

He gave me this suggetion:

1. Go into the game logged in with your desired profile.

2. The error should pop up, at this point log out and continue like you would to start a new game.

3. Select the option to upload your ME 1 game and continue through the menus till the game starts.

4. After the ship attack scene when you start playing the game for the first time. Try signing in, once youre done signing in the error will pop up and ask you to press A to restart. Press the button. The gme will restart and this time you should see no error, go through the menus again to start a new game and upload your character.

(Yes that was a direct copy and paste from the e-mail).

Update you then.

UPDATE: Tried my Xbox at a friends and I still got the same error on using the hard drive. However when I used my momory stick which has the exact Mass Effect on my hard drive I did not get any error on Mass Effect 2 or the demo.

From this I know that its not the Xbox in reading disks, and it is definitely NOT the SAVES. However all this can be now is a hard drive problem (not likely) or a Bioware problem. I still think its a Cerberus Network problem because thats also linked to the Mass Effect 3 Demo, however the hard drive is also linked to both.

Still waiting back on Microsoft.

I will update you then.

Just got a call from Microsoft. They said that they don't think its a hardware issue at all, and if I want to try another hard drive then I am free to do so (If you want to try let us know the results).

I believe this narrows down the problem, to one. Which is Bioware.

The Microsoft guy said that Bioware have got to be pushed to make sure the error does not come up when Mass Effect 3 is released and make a patch for Mass Effect 2 which sorts the problem.

I have tried all I can now, you guys have tried all you can. It is now up to Bioware to make sure the problem gets fixed.

Just remember the issue maybe annoying, it may bug you. But Mass Effect 3 is on the horizon and I suggest that until Bioware fix the problem we should all stay positive and excited for the big Mass Effect 3.

Remember this. Some sign-in error is and will not stop you from playing Mass Effect 3. It is NOT the SAVES or the DLC. They are safe don't worry.

I will look at this thread from time to time and direct people to it who have the problem.

I hope to all see you online and having fun.

I wish you guys all the best

Thank you for all your help. It seems we've definitely narrowed it down to a problem that we can't fix ourselves. I'm hopeful that once Mass Effect 3 comes out, once we use the Alliance Network code, it might override whatever problems there are with the Cerberus Network code. If not, there might be enough new reports of the error that we might be able to push Bioware into acknowledging and hopefully patching the problem.

No problem, thanks for your help to. I hope entering the Alliance Network code will couter-react the problem too.

I feel like having some fun off to play Mass Effect 3 Demo. Cya online.

I've found a way to force the error in the ME3 demo.

If you start the demo without being signed in, then press start at the title screen, a list of profile options appears. Without selecting any, press B, and it will tell you that you cannot save and take you to the main menu.

Press Y to attempt to connect to the Alliance Network and it will prompt you to sign in again, this time select your gamertag. Once signed in, you will get the "sign-in change occurred" message.

Instead of pressing A to restart, just sign out again using the Guide button. Then, select Y to attempt to connect to the Alliance Network again, sign in, and you will get the "sign-in change occurred" error message again, every time.

So, now I'm almost positive this is an issue with the Alliance and Cerberus ME2 and 3 codes or servers. I've tried the same method in ME2, and get pretty much the same results except you must sign in and out yourself since attempting to join the Cerberus network doesn't give you a sign-in prompt. Just thought I'd post these results in case anybody from Bioware was watching and could use the extra information to pinpoint the problem.

Regarding the ME1 saves, yes it is a "hidden autosave" once you defeat Saren the second time. If you re-defeat Saren the game will make a new autosave on whatever drive or device your transferred save is on. See source: http://masseffect.wi...e_File_Transfer

We have ruled out that the "hidden save" is not the problem otherwise we would not be able to play online or the Mass Effect 3 Demo.

Earlier today, I wasn't getting the error when I just had ONLY my profile and the ME3 demo on a usb drive and no hard drive in my console. I may not have given it enough time to give me the error, though. If someone else can try the same method, and post results, that'd be great.

I tried the same thing the other day.  Then I tried with saves and all the Mass Effect 2 DLC, I did not recieve an error however eventually I did recieve them. This error is intermittent so it might not pop one second then it will the next. I had no error for a full day. Then I did get an error.

It has to be a Bioware problem. It can't be the:
Saves: Because we can use them and play them fine offline and online, and the demo does not have the ablity to import saves.
Disk: Because you don't need a disk to play the Mass Effect 3 Demo, and we can use it fine offline.
Hard Drive: Because we can play the saves, use the disk offline fine.

Which only leaves Bioware and the Cerberus Network/Alliance Network.
Cerberus Network and Alliance Network is the only thing that requires you to be online to use. Bioware operate Cerberus Network not EA. When I tried playing Mass Effect 2 with my account in my mates Xbox with his hard drive in it gave me the error when using my account, but not his.

If there was only some way to contact Bioware and really see if they can get the problem sorted out.

Also regarding the hardware someone in this thread (can't remember who) said they share an Xbox one of them could access the game without any problem the other said they could not. This can only mean then that the problem is tied to your account which feeds back to Bioware by Cerberus Network/Alliance Network.

But hopefully like you said the Alliance Network code will counter-react the Ceberus Network code. If anyone really wants to find out sooner you could always buy another Cerberus Network code off the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 1200MSP I think it is.

Hi Zico291,

Thanks for summarizing the issue. We are investigating it right now. We may ask more info from you guys if we cant repro the problem today.
