I don't know if someone views the following as spoilerish, it isn't story-related at all, just mentions some gear that glitches...

It seems equipping two items that give a +con bonus (or at least two: boots of hardiness and amulet of vitality) causes issues.  First of all the second bonus will stack with the first but only on current hp--the max hp will stay the same, resulting in a current hp higher than the maximum.  Then, it seems that re-equipping the boots  causes the current hp to increment again--this means you can load your character with as many hp as you like before entering a fight.  It only works if the amulet is equipped, and it doesn't remove the constitution bonus of the boots on the character screen either.  Taking of the amulet resets it.

Since I want to play legit, though, this poses a problem, as I'm not getting the full +3 constitution bonus, rather +2, if I just equip each item once.  Is there a fix for this?

IIRC, you are only supposed to get the higher bonus. This probably doesn't answer your question directly though.

Yes, you remember correctly. With the exception of Barbarian's Rage, attribute bonuses don't stack.

Kaedrin has the best fixes for this issue, it's not perfect ( it really can't be ), but i'd suggest trying his content. Where he can't fix the issue he's adding in mysterious damage.

There are similar bugs with other attribute bonuses in the game. A sorceror wearing a nymph cloak can cast spells more often per day, which decrement if you remove the cloak (as they should). Donning and removing the cloak multiple times results in the number of spells you have left continuing to decrement, even though they don't increment when you put the cloak on (unless you rest with the cloak equipped). You can drain all of your remaining spell usages that way.

Seems there's no rhyme or reason to what stacks and what doesn't. How come I get an ac bonus from amulet of protection +2 and ring of protection +2 at the same time, but not bracers of protection?

Would make equipment more fun if things stacked more often. Guess it's a D&D 3.5 thing...

Will have a look, thanks.

You may not see it, but there's a reason. Those are different types of armor: amulets give natural armor, bracers and armor give armor bonus, rings and cloaks give deflection, boots give dodge, shields give shield bonus... same types don't stack, different types do.

those are two different things. there's no amulet of protection but of natural armor that gives an ac bonus to your skin, therefore those are different ac boni which do stack.

Read this Sources of AC - that should explain it. Only dodge AC stacks, and each item has one of the 6 types of AC, which means at level 1 you can get at most +6 ( but usually +5 ) using +1 items and spells.

True, forgot about dodge.
