What's missed if starting from ME3?

Also if, for example, the mission with Mordin and Wrex from the demo were a side mission. Both of them didn't survive? No mission. That would kinda suck. If a character's replaced with a placeholder, that's one thing. No mission at all is another.

Also, I can't imagine that the game would assume everyone died. If your brother is playing on PC he can get ME1 and ME2 saves online to make sure that no characters are killed that he doesn't want. I would imagine there might even be a way to do this on XBox and PS3..

Considering how Chris the other week posted about doing a default run and in doing so had a moment where Grunt wasn't where ever he is supposed to turn up. I'm going to guess he was possibly playing on 'Numerous' default because it seems strange how that default mentions numerous deaths and the Ashley/Kaidan variants just mention them.
Basically I imagine that if you pick one of the Ashley/Kaidan defaults then whichever you pick is the only death out of known squadmates former and upcoming, whereas if you pick 'Numerous' then the VS is determined by your Shepard's sex (same as ME2 default was) and I imagine besides Grunt, some of the lesser 'important' ME2 squadmates have bit the dust as well.
Considering Wrex being alive, I am curious as to what other ME choices have been selected for the ME3 defaults. I imagine it'll be Udina as Councillor and Rachni Queen spared... seeing as another important note is that Kirrahe is alive in the demo as well and yet for ME2 Default Shep he was dead.

You're missing out on the two better games in the Mass Effect series.
Honestly, beat some sense into you brother.

Don't forget to use Renegade interrupts on your brother when convincing him to play ME1/2.

Um, you haven't even played it yet, you tool. -.-'
Although I'm inclined to think that ME3 is going to be quite a bit better than either of them in terms of gameplay at least.

He has not played himself.
Did he watch a good friend play through ME2 a lot? Yeah.
Has he heard me talking bout parts of ME 1 and 2...a lot? Yeah.
Does he particularly want to play back through story he already knows for hours on end? Not really.
Have you determined ME3 sucks already? I mean, I liked the demo just fine... Multiplayer's a blast (love co-op).

Get the hell out of here, ****ing redditors! Sorry for my rude words, but you've ruined enough with your stupid trolling. Is school's out already for you little kids? Go away and don't disturb intelectual discussions of intelectual (wo)men!
Don't acknowledge them. Reddit is a hive of treachery. I mean, they blew up last week when Something Awful forced the site to ban the posting of pedophilia. There's no reasoning with them. Report, ignore, carry on.

Oh. ME3 might very well be as good as ME1 & 2.Huttj509 wrote...

Still, knowing the story is not same as playing it, not for a rpg at least.
Even if you brother knows every detail about the first 2 games(witch I doubt), ME3 won't be anywhere near as enjoyable for him if he hasn't played the prequels himself with his own unique character.
If he wants to play something just for the story tho, I would actually suggest him steer clear of rpgs.

Tali, Garus, Laira, VS Kaiden if Shep is female, Ash if male Alive,
Udina is Councillor and Council is dead.
Geth are reprogrammed and Quarian Fleet told to go to war with geth.
So a mix of paragon and Renegede choices.

I concur, knowing the general story is far from being the one actually making the choices that will (hopefully) have an impact on ME3 story's unfolding.
