But what if you don't feel like talking. I usually have my mic on, I just choose not to talk. Sometimes I just want to be in my own world and just want enjoy the game and not deal with the crap some people spit out. Not to sound like a DB, but sometimes I just don't feel like talking at all. Then again, that is just the way I am IRL. I am not an asocial type, but when I just don't have much to say, I don't say anything at all.

Exactly. Mics are not needed. It's why I play with PUGs, rarely anyone would use the mic. I don't want to hear other people yapping. Besides, who's got time to hit tab to talk? The second it takes to keep tab pressed and talk is long enough for a banshee to pop up and impale your ass.

That's why I don't use my mic anymore. I don't like the "always on" option, and push to talk is not exactly very easy to use while trying to kill mooks and running away from those annoying seekers swarms

Anyway, sorry for the necro, but it's because of a recent experience where everyone was just -reapin'- around and not actually helping the objective which caused it to fail. And with no microphones, there's no coordination.

EDIT: Now I understand why people don't want to use the mic, sometimes I feel the same way. And I don't want to say that everyone is terrible at coordination without mics but that's what 90% of my experiences have been.

If folks know what they are doing, or what needs to be done then a mike is not needed. I HAVE NO MIKE TO TURN ON, but if you find the right team you won't need a mike.

basically sounds like, you or the people you are playing with either dont belong on that difficulty, have terrible synergy, or are just having a bad day.

if none of those are it, then i think you are just trying to find a way to "pass the buck" for you dying all the time.
to put it simple, sounds like you are blaming everyone else because you keep dying, when it in fact is your own fault.

people solo all the time, so the "no mic" argument is invalid.

It's not necessary but it definitely makes it easier. Especially when people seem to not realize that it's time for extraction and because of them we get Partial Extraction.

Hell, maybe it's just me having bad luck (after all, I get terrible packs all the time) or the players on Xbox.

In fact, the vast majority of the time people either don't have mics or have them but don't talk, and we still manage to work pretty damn well as a team.

I have a mic...I don't ever use it with pugs because I'm scared of people. However, I've had plenty of pug golds that go well (for me.) Lol I do my best to have their backs. I am always sacrificing for the team. If it goes bad it is because team mates don't pull their own weights and I am depending too much on them or I choose to be silly and charge into the enemy crowd knowing I will surely die ( I don't do that if there's an enemy that can instant kill). teehee~ There are some occasions where I feel comfortable with the person talking during the game. It all depends on their behavior. I like polite/encouraging/funny people. It's all about positivity!

wasnt trying to sound "mean", but in alot of cases our own ego's screw us over, so i was trying to make a zen like self improvement post.

i have a mic, some days i dont want to talk at all, just because... 
most people are shy and/or just want to play with zero attatchments to other people, as in they dont want to get drug into why they gotta leave or what the name of their dog is.

could it help, sure, but usually shyness/antisocial wins.

as for winning, if you're getting stomped all day then try doing something different. 
for example, be a follower instead of a loner, might even learn something.
(dont follow so close that your head isnt visible, you know because its up their...)  

also i have solo'ed platinum, but in a full lobby i try to revive everyone!!! even the dude that plays like he cant even make it past wave 1 bronze when we are in gold.
i dont get mad at that dude i just described, only people i get mad at is blatant leechers.

if everything you try fails then you need to just get another group or take a break.

the majority of gamers have no experience in talking to strangers, you just have to be lucky to find a genuine person who isn't afraid to say hello

also with alot of people recording their gameplay and uploading it to websites such as youtube, people are not comfortable being exposed to thousnads of people online
