That's unfortunate. I can see why you don't talk.Boz Meister wrote...

Me: We got 2 phantoms coming up on my side, could use a hand with em'.
Random guy: Dude STFU, are you a **** or something?
*Turns off mic*
No thanks.

During the periods where I could theoretically do these things, it... wouldn't be such a great idea. You see, my girlfriend is very highly... erm... ! Anyway, it would be a bit embarrassing if folks the other side of the world overheard half of the stuff she says to me.
Especially after she's had a drink or two

I've been through so many matches that have made it to complete extraction without mics
In fact, the vast majority of the time people either don't have mics or have them but don't talk, and we still manage to work pretty damn well as a team.

A female voice attracts way too much attention (in my experience), so I don't really like talking. I only do when I'm with my friends or forum friends.
This for me.
Too many bad experiences when the guys focus on my gender rather than playing the game. There is only so many innapropriate sexual comments and "shouldn't you be in the kitchen?" jokes I can handle.

I guess it's coming from War for Cybertron on PC which has ZERO communication. We just melee each other and shoot somewhere to tell people what to do. Kinda like bees.

It should be noted that not all of these comments are directed towards any of the players. There are always inconsiderate folks who are sexist, racist or nasty all round - but there are others who're simply talking to someone else in their own house (having a laugh and a joke with your girlfriend for example). These folks forget that everything can be overheard... in fact usually only the person playing can be heard if the other person is in the kitchen or on the toilet or something, and things you say in family/friendly banter isn't always good to go broadcasting to people over the net.
Still not very nice to hear, since you're never truly sure of the context.

And that is why you use push to talk. Because no one, in a game, on the other side of the world, cares how you treat your girlfriend.

Especially as someone who doesn't get all tactical crazy in MP and plays for fun.
ESPECIALLY when you do try to mic and you get judged/friended/creeped for the sole reason that you are a female. This doesn't go for every game where I have tried to mic but it happens a lot. Adding on to the fact I am Aussie, stuff gets heaps awkward and... sometimes very sexist.

lol....but...yeah.
Oh, but at the OP. One of the reasons I'm not interested in turning on the mic is because I don;t actually want to hear you yelling in all caps w/ 5 exclamation points.
I don;t wanna hear it. Alot of ppl have difficulty dealing w. stressful situations w/out turning into complete jerks. In fact, I find it distracting.
The best teams with or w/out mics, play to their abilities and look out for each other.

Made my first gold extraction today. I finally broke down and bought a mic, in fact we all had mics but no one used them. We simply stayed bunched up covered all 4 flanks and beat the **** out of everything. Things went bananas on firebase White when 4 phantoms and 3 Atlases were bearing down and instead of panicked screams and profanity we all stayed silent and focused. A thing of beauty.
yeah, this is what i find to be true. When it's the most intense is when I'm the most quiet because I'm concentrating

If it is a higher percentage of people playing without mics, it is clear that you should accept it, or this is not the game for you.

Sorry, but, microphoning with a stranger will always be awkward no matter what kind of justification it's given. Every time I hear some random pop up with a mic and tell my username what to do, I make this face:

Same here. Listening to strangers going on with chat like:
"Yo what is this?"
"F***ing noob come on!"
"*whistling*"
"*singing*"
"Yes this gun is deifintely more accurate with a better fire rate...."
Blah, blah, blah.
Mute is my best friend.
