I like the idea that we can individually name all our characters in multiplayer but it would be nice if we can display them when playing. My male human engineer is named Geordi LaForge, lol.

Yeah, I like that idea too, perhaps a smaller font underneath the gamertag <Geordi LaForge>
Like the way WoW displays guild names. It's not terribly important, but it would be cool to see what people chose. I'd certainly feel better having Geordi at my side as an engineer :D

I think that would be cool. I name all my characters Halo Spartan style, a name + numbers. My male human Soldier wears green armor is called John 117. I don't play with him though.

I'd get judgmental of people who named their characters bad names.

I give all of my human characters code names such as Colossus for my soldier or mantis for my sentinal, trident for my engineer or even blaze for my infiltrator whilst my alien characters have proper names. . .for an alien, example my krogan is named urdnot kang.

that would be nice, cuz right now i'm naming my new unlock chars "trolololol" or "asdfdsgsd", not putting much thought into it since no-one can see it.

That's the OPs point, he'd like it so we can display them, to some degree I agree that it'd be nice as long as they don't take up too much room

This. I take the time to make up nice sounding names for all my characters and me being the only one able to see them is kind of sad. I wish the name space was longer though; I can't fit a full Quarian name in there. :/

Yeah, same here. I'm a notorious roleplayer, so I'm probably putting way too much thought into my characters (I blame my desire for a ME P&P or MMO RPG). Given that the singleplayer portion of Mass Effect is an RPG as well, having the multiplayer part use account names feels like a disconnect.

<geekmode> When I'm storming Firebase White, I don't want to appear as gamer XYZ using l33t skillz to win some map, I want to be seen as Rania T'leer, Asari Commando, heroically storming a Cerberus outpost utilizing centuries of martial training and a strong biotic proficiency. </geekmode> :P

Well, the "vas XYZ" part only denotes the ship they are from, it's not used all the time - I think only on the first introduction and on official papers. So meh ... just waive the ship part.
Salarians have it somewhat more difficult. :D

I stick to callsigns since all the characters are supposed to special forces. Whisper, Wolfman, Paladin, Tank, Panther, Slick etc.

Yeah, good ol Pacifist, the krogan want to show off too.
It could be like guild names in certain RPGs, so you keep your callsign/ID/whatever and above or below that the name of your current character is displayed.

So you might be one of the few that doesn't think it's weird that I made a spreadsheet of the classes and races, trying to put at least 24 names to them all that I feel would suit them. Yeah, it's got that bad :pinched:

I would rather Bioware then have a naming convention, or randomized names. Because if names were to be displayed, it suddenly wouldn't be a game, it would be that weird LARP thing where fat people dress up in cloth armor and swing foam swords. Because you'll get in to a lobby and it'll be:

Broseidon the Human Soldier
AFLFASD the Krogan Soldier
Sexykat the Asari Adept (played, notably, by a 48-year-old man), and
Shadownightslayerxxx the Drell Vanguard

...and I'm just not in to that. You can keep your names to yourself. When I promote my characters into my single-player game, they'll be there for me to see, and that's all that matters to me.

...I'm also seriously considering renaming my human soldier "Broseidon" now, too. Hm.

Or you know, there could be the option for players can view the character name or gamertag. And it isn't even only fat people that go to those Live Action Role Play places.

It isn't only fat people who eat at McDonalds, either, but I still feel a little dirty every time I consider going there just the same.

The thought some of you are putting into character names is making me feel rather silly.

Turian Bob or Fat Pat the Krogan, or Tony Stark the red and yellow human soldier seem flippant ...

Well if they do that they need to let me know first. My Asari is named Bing-Bong. I didn't feel like sitting around thinking of a name that didn't matter.

I'd like this if we got either both the gamertag and name shown, or had the option of seeing one or the other. With friends, I'd love to see names. With randoms? Gamertags.

The only Genuine naming I did was calling the Salarian I unlocked Kirrahe.

Apart from that, I just name them after my GT (Goldendroid) and then Gold 2, Gold 3 etc. for the sake of having the name.

Shame I could've and would've loved to have had Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Thane etc. all represented through random characters. But that's just me..
