Why doesn't anyone use their missle launcher?

This happens all the time. I remember I was in a gold match recently we were on the 8th or 9th wave. We had killed pretty much every enemy around, and all we had to contend with was 2 Atlas's. I had Already used 2 of my Missle Launcher shots on the couple of other Atlas's that preceded them, and I knew I was the only one who had used it at all. So eventually the Atlas's managed to bottle neck all of us on the path way(This was Firebase White), and I was wondering the entire time..

Why wasn't anyone shooting their missles at them!? It isn't just that match usually when the situation calls for it I'm always the first to whip mine out, and glass the mech, and everyone around it, but I rarely see other people doing it even when the situation gets desperate, they just keep shooting with their normal guns.

I don't really understand. Do they simply not have any missles on them, do they not know how to use it? Or do they just not like using it.

I was wondering what you guys/girls thought of this.

I like to save mine for the extraction or to save time on objectives. I'm assuming that's what others are doing as well.

Good question actually. I've seen it rarely as well.
Naturally, I only use it in dire situations when it's obvious that we can't successfully handle the Atlas, but even then most people just ignore that fact that they have a friggin' insta-kill strapped to their backs.

@FFLB: That doesn't really help if you're dead because an Atlas cornered you and you saved your missiles. :P

You only get two per game. You need to save them for critical times when an Atlus needs to be destroyed quickly, which is usually during extraction when there are like 6 of them swarming you (on Gold). Atlus mechs aren't otherwise all that dangerous.

The reason you had a problem was because you used your missiles in earlier rounds. It's better to save them if possible.

This, particularly on silver (I don't play gold.)

I have yet to see an Atlas being able to bottleneck and to corner someone properly. If that happens, I am usually able to just sprint by, since they're so goddamn slow.

Also: There is literally no reason to waste the rockets on non-timed stages, given that you out-maneuver them.

I save them for wave 10 when the game calls for me to kill an atlas in less than a minute. easy enough when you have competent teammates, but that is not always the case.

it shouldn't be too hard to get around an atlas though, unless you let it corner you.

I actually don't know how it happened. One starting coming from the outside pathway, and as I was starting to run, another just came out from the hallway, and trapped me. It was pretty damn scary to be honest. Just watching them slowly close in on us while I was cowering behind cover.

I understand the need to 'conserve' for silver and gold but I've been to a lot of bronze matches where the team's getting annihilated by an Atlas (wave 8 onwards) but not one of them wants to use their missile launcher.

I'm saving mine for 2 last waves, because in objectives, you got time limit and in extraction you don't move very far.

When there is normal wave, I can just run away from the Atlas and take my sweet time with it.

Well then, just run away from it and kill rest of the enemies, then vanguard charge, nova, roll back while novaing and fire few shots -> repeat till dead.

Protip: Don't look at an Atlas and immediately think, "MISSILE!"

You need to learn how to take them down without missiles, so that when situations do occur where you need them, you have them. It actually kind of annoys me on Silver when I've got an Atlas's shields gone by myself and have started working a good ways into his Armor bar and some toolbag who just noticed him takes him out with a missile. Like...it's entirely unnecessary, and you just wasted a missile. Because it was probably Wave 6, which means by Wave 8 if we all did that, we'd have twice as many Atlases to deal with and no rockets to do so with, and that's not even counting the phantoms we have to deal with. And then god forbid your Wave 10 is the assassinate 4 targets, because that first one might be an Atlas, and now you've got to figure out how to kill it in 60 seconds with the initial spawn between you and it.

Way to go, genius.

P.S. If you're getting annihilated by an Atlas on Bronze...my only advice, and not to sound snarky, but get better. Sure, there's a few builds that aren't Atlas-killing-centric, but four people focused on one target should be able to take it down with pistols if they had to.

If you have a quality Vanguard, you are better off allowing them to unleash an endless wave of Charge+Nova (repeat) and provide support. This way you have those rockets for the later, and far more challenging, waves. Otherwise, have one person play decoy and the others shoot the Atlas from behind. Your scenario was more a matter of poor fortune and not getting some distances when the two Atlas' started to bottle close together. It happens, I once nearly killed an Atlas solo-ing Bronze but hadn't realized a Guardian was right behind me, thus I couldn't avoid said Atlas' insta-kill attack.

Wonder that myself actually, there could be people that don't have any i guess but probably not since u were playing on gold and u get like 3 every other veteran pack. I just hate when i shoot one only to realise somebody else just shot theirs and i hit nothing but corpses. I think its mostly people being stingey or not thinking. Use em people! its fun to take out an Atlas, 2 nemesis's and a phantom in one shot.

Here is another tactic I use as a soldier:

Go behind cover, don't use the cover system and just move slightly out of the cover, so that Atlas can't use it's cannons at you, (like with those stairs in the Noveria) spam powers and weapons till it dies. Always move when Atlas is about to reach you and go to next cover.

For Soldier it's good to keep concusion shoting it so it slows down and staggers.

Because they have an instant-kill melee attack, it's safer to clear out everything else with Charge-Nova, then Charge-backflip-pistol fire the Atlus. Vanguards are really good at keeping Atlus attention so that allies can fire without danger.

Yeah, nova isn't always a good idea. But I think players should just watch what animation starts rolling, Atlas will telegraph it's attacks pretty well.

Yes it does. And if it's not doing any animation, stay away. That's when it can grab you for instant death. Wow, have I had to learn that lesson too many times.

I don't think I've been cornered by an Atlus alone, but I've probably been surrounded by Guardians with an Atlus heading towards me though. As others have said, you can usually just run past one, unless it gets lucky and grabs you while you're passing by.

I also use the missile if I can get 2 Atluses with one shot, and maybe a Phantom or two on the side.

I notice people never use their items. I use heals, revives and rockets. The only utility item I never use is the thermal clips.

But seriously people, revive yourself, don't just let yourselves get stepped on, I can't always run across the map to save you.

As a Vanguard I have to use just a single pistol, so I sometimes get stuck away from ammo boxes and need to use one, but it's rare enough that I now have over 70 of them.

Heavy Weapons Syndrome, same as ME2 where you wanted to save it incase you need it later, which ends up in not using it at all.

Again, it sort of depends on a few things: is it a new wave? Is it a survival wave? Is it Wave 1-5? If I do some mistake or wander in to the wrong area or do a bad vanguard charge and it's Silver Wave 4 and I get stepped on, I'm fine with dying; I know the team will survive. So it's better to just sit out for a spell rather than blow a medigel that could be used later in a clutch moment.

Sometimes, oddly enough, that's what it takes for teamwork!

I see people use self-revives pretty carelessly in wave 1 or 2 and that is kinda bummer.

I only use ever the rocket if the Atlas is either a Priority Target or is in the same room as an objective.

It's just a waste otherwise seeing how you only get 2 per game.
