They're supposed to be 'top tier' weapons, but their quality varies widely.

The Carnifex and Widow are almost universally well regarded. Both hit like a ton of bricks for their weapon class and are highly accurate.

The Hornet and Claymore are love-it-or-hate-it weapons. They have high raw power along with significant drawbacks, which makes them difficult to use.

The Revenant is almost universally maligned.

There is no such thing as a dumb question. 

The weapons marked in gold are basically rare weapons. You normally get stuff like the M-8 Avenger or the Tempest.

Guns like the Revenant or the Carnifex are considered rare and are marked in gold.

that's awesome, i kinda wondered why one gun card i got was doing some kind of shimmer thing, but it was just silver or something. good to know.

I assume you are referring to the salarian infiltrator, because they are the only ones that get sniper rifle -30%, humans get 20% for all weapons.  Regardless I think this might have been the wrong place to ask since most of us posting DON'T have it lol.

I plan on getting capacity increase and sniper rifle weight reduction on my salarian when I get my widow so I can better plan for retail, so let's hope I get it soon?

I have every other character; every weapon level 10 except for the Hornet (level 6), the Revenant (level 3), Claymore (level 1) and Carnifex (level 1); and I have every single attachment level 5. I have all the customization options for every human and I still get character training for classes that I have maxed out. I hate it so much that I still don't have the Widow OR the Locust.

Same boat as me with your gold weapon unlocks spread else where.  I got 3 male human adept unlocks in the same veteran pack last night...

But here's the kicker, I don't care about the Widow I like the ARs.

On pc I have no gold weapons, but I have managed to get asari adept and quarian engineer, my n7 is 80.

on xbox I have 4 gold weapons, including the widow, and 3 rare classes, n7 of 30. I hope I get this luck for the full game.

The best weapons I have are Viper, Mattock, Locust, Katana, and Carnifex. No widow, revevnant, or claymore. Don't know if the Locust and Carnifex are best in their respective class of weapons.

Alright good news and bad. I finally got the widow, I can give you guys info on it's weight and what not, but sadly I have to leave the club even though I made this thread.

So the over weightness of a salarian without any evolved powers to reduce weight:
with widow 1 and a carnifex 4 it is -81% tactical cloak recharge speed is 12.67
with widow 1 no carnifex it's -19% tactical cloak recharge speed is 7.41
with claymore 2 no carnifex its -14% (for people that want to compare and don't have widow)

With the weight capacity increase (not sniper rifle weight decrease, yet):
with widow 1 and a carnifex 4 it is -51% tactical cloak recharge speed is 9.68
with widow 1 no carnifex it's +11% tactical cloak recharge speed is 6.06

With both the weight capacity increase and sniper rifle weight decrease:
with widow 1 and a carnifex 4 it is -21% tactical cloak recharge speed is 7.50
with widow 1 no carnifex it's +40% tactical cloak recharge speed is 5.13

Congrats at getting the widow and comiserations at having to leave the club.

Also interesting stats. My first playthrough I tried the Widow with Phalanx, as I have no weight capacity reduction it was almost unplayable (cooldown to long for my playstyle). But after dropping the phalanx it worked very well. I'll probably go with weight capacity in my widow engineer build for the full game to up my overload spamming ability.

But then it's the ONLY gold gun I've unlocked and from the kills my flatmate is getting with the carnifex i may well be badly mistaken in thinking the widow is the best gun out...

The carnifex is great for taking out regular troopers, but the widow is much better at taking out guardians and higher targets.  I think of the carnifex as a pistol version of the viper.

Basically, the Carnifex is for class/race combos where you want to minimize recharge on a skill you want to spam. The Widow is for anyone else.

Playing as Adept / Inf Carnifex is the best.

When playing as Adept / Inf I personally believe the Carnifex is the best weapon choice.

Fixed it to better reflect your opinion.
