Salutations,

Me and several others have been having issue(s) when it comes
to playing the ME3 demo after multiplayer was released for the public
use (as opposed to early access [which I was not a part of]). Once the
demo starts up and goes the main menu, the message will show "Connecting
to EA servers". This will successfully complete, only to be followed by
a crash. For me, the crash occurs right after the image in the upper
right attempts to load (the circle will spin an average of two times
before freezing). However, if Origin is set to offline mode, the game
will start and be fine. However, this means no connection to server, and that only single-player can
be played. Any attempt at connecting will result in another crash (A
video of what happens is ).
This was not a problem before the release of public multiplayer.

Others are having problems even connecting to the servers in the
first place. This issue doesn't seem to affect the majority of Windows 7 64-bit users . The majority of those with problems has been Vista users (that I know of). I'll be attaching my DxDiag, and two
Windows eventlogs to aid in analysis:

http://dl.dropbox.co...o/Eventlog1.txt

Edit, just again tried. No luck:

In addition, two other forum threads on the issue(the first talking about another issue in addition to the one above):

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

In order for us to further investigate this issue can you please provide the following files?
If you need any help or would like to email the files instead of posting somewhere accesible, please feel free to drop me a PM.

List of Installed Programs
1) From The Start Menu Navigate to "Accessories" and run "Command Prompt"
2) Type the following command on the command prompt: wmic /output:c:\\ProgramList.txt product get name, version
3) After a few seconds the command should complete, the file will be located at C:\\ProgramList.txt

DXDiag
1) From the start menu use Run/Search Programs and Files and type "DXDiag" then hit return
2) DXDiag will now launch
3) Click "Save all information" and save the file somewhere easily accesible.

Many Thanks!

Hi All,

Thanks to those who provided the information I requested. I have a lead on what may be causing this crash.

I'd like to ask that you whitelist the following host in any Firewall/Proxy/Ad blocking or filtering tools you may have: me3.goscontent.ea.com port 80 and 443

I'm continuing to investigate to see if we can resolve this on our side.

Joe

Hi Folks,

I am still investigating this problem. I believe I've tracked down the cause of the problem and I am currently investigating why it occurs on specific machines and potential ways to fix it.

Unfortunately I don't have any more information to share right now or any potential fixes. Should that change I will post an update.

Hey,

Can you please visit the following link in your browser: http://me3.gosconten...ect/3/AD001.dds

If you experience an error, please report what it is. If not, can you please upload the file somewhere accessible so we can review it?

Many Thanks!

Hi All,

I'm working on a fix for this issue that we'll hopefully be able to get out in a future update.

I'm also happy to say that I have a workaround which will hopefully enable you to bypass the problem immediately.
Unfortunately the workaround means you won't see the correct images at the top of the Alliance News Network screen and certain images in the Multiplayer Store, but it won't affect your ability to play the game.

Workaround Steps
1. Open Notepad as an administrator. On Windows 7 type "Notepad" in the start menu search and right click "Notepad" in the results and select "Run As Administrator"
2. Open the hosts file, usually located at C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts
3. Add the following line to the bottom of your hosts file: 127.0.0.1    me3.goscontent.ea.com
4. Save your hosts file
5. Run Mass Effect 3.

Example of host file here

Please let me know if that resolves your problem.

Many thanks for your patience.

nb. Please only apply this fix if you are having the exact problem described in this thread, crashing shortly after the "Connecting to EA Servers..." message closes.
