A way around the "spacebar does everything"

I did this in ME2 and it worked beautifully. Did the same for gears of war for PC.

How does that help?
I think the real problem is that "spacebar does everything".
I stopped counting the times I got into trouble because I wanted to do one thing but the game decided to interpret me hitting the action button in a different way.
The worst instance was when I couldn't revive a teammate because the body was lying next to an objective, so that every time I pressed space my character would start activating the objective instead. <_<

Oh, and I love it when a grenade lands next to you and you try to run away, and instead your character decides to go in to pinball mode jumping from cover to cover and you end up just having moved about 5ft away from the grenade before it blows.

Also it happened that i wanted to revive a teammate when i was behind cover but trying to revive her ended up in me just standing up and breaking cover, and attempting to revive her again caused me to just crouch behind cover again.
What is wrong with the tried and tested formula of:
SHIFT = run
CTRL = crouch/cover
E = Use

4th mouse button? Call me cheap but I only got three...
I got around ten buttons on my mouse, and still none of them is free for the "use"-function.
But there's no need for it, anyway. We already have a ****ton of buttons for every occasion. most of them could handle a second function without causing interference. The only button that was already overloaded since ME2 is the spacebar.
'rolling' or 'getting into/getting out of cover' could use the same button as 'going around corner while in cover' and 'use/revive' could be bound to the reload key. But hey, why not just put all functions on one key.

That's a very good idea.
I think that with a hierarchy of 'revive' > 'use' > 'reload' on the current reload key we would have a significantly improved control scheme.

I made a mod for the demo that changes the controls. Sprint is on shift, everything else is on space.

Are these re-bindable? I prefer to have E as use rather than spacebar, which I use for power activation, like in ME1

There's only a certain number of keys within reach of my left hand. Putting functions to the right hand side of the keyboard would be just plain stupid. There's no probem with binding more than one functionto one key, as long as they don't interfere with each other.Defiant21 wrote...
OP the "spacebar" is not the problem, the problem is they need to be unique functions that are all bindable to what we want. Don't group them with revive or anything, thats absurd. We have keyboards, and many many many keys and combination of keys just for this sole purpose.

and it feels natural as left shift is run in 99% of pc games

I could re-arrange the keys, but in single player you use q and e to control squadmates.

I'll just re-bind those, or not use them. The only time I used the team orders in ME2 was when I was forced to do so by the game.
Thanks if you do go through with it.

Then how do you pause the game to change weapons and look at powers? That was on shift.Maxwell Adams wrote...
