NWN2 suddenly crashing PC

I've been happily playing NWN2 without any issues whatsoever for a number of years. However yesterday I fired up the PC and started NWN2, at which point the PC froze and needed to be hard reset.

This happened several times and it seems to freeze up when the graphics card fan starts spinning. It freezes up in various places, a couple of times on the game intro screen, sometimes on the gamespy/server screens. All require hard resets.

When it freezes the screen seems to judder and then sometimes a slight spray of red pixels flickers across the screen at which point the screen, mouse and PC are now locked. CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing.

The graphics card I'm using is a EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB and before yesterday have never had any issues with it. Nothing has changed on my PC, no drivers or updates have been installed. I can only assume the graphics card is nixed, however it seems to work fine for everything else... I updated the graphic card driver and that did nothing either, same issue.

I am using the client extender, I haven't installed the very latest version which was released a couple of weeks ago but am on the previous version.

Anyone have any suggestions or any tests I can do on my card to confirm if it is dead? I'm doing a full reinstall of NWN2 in case it is somehow a game issue (using my steam version instead this time). Any help/advice/suggestions/voodoo would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your GPU is overheating. Is the cooling fan still spinning constantly? Try cleaning the dust that accumulates on the leading edges of the fan.

It was doing it from the get go, no time to overheat. I *think* I have resolved it by doing a full reinstall...

Turns out the graphics card was in the process of frying. New card = instant fix...
