So forever ago, I got the flower in the woods to cure the sick hound with, but when I returned I spaced on going back to the kennel and then the village was destroyed. I thought the game would have presented another opportunity but Im 30 hours and no hound. Any other way of getting one?
On a totally different note, Im having trouble finding a backpack for sale. Do I just keep overlooking it? I could really one.

If you didn't hand in the flower at the kennel, you missed out (until Return to Ostagar DLC (if you plan to get that, like I am), wich should give you yet a chance to get it). Another way to get it would be as a Human Noble, during the Origins story.
Backpacks are scattered a bit around the game world. There are two in Lothering (at least there were two on my recent playthrough, but the second one might have been a bug)--fairly sure I got them both from the merchant you can drive away, help or compromise with, but it might have been one on that guy outside and one on the guy in the bar. Gorim in Denerim should sell one, the vendor in Brecilian Outskirts (Dalish camp) should sell one. Bodhan should have one (at least eventually, not sure if he had one from the start) and there are a few more NPC's with one, I think Quartermaster at the Circle Tower had one too and someone in Orzimmar. Just note that the cap is 125 slots (and I hope they raise it in the future since I can still buy 2 more packs and I want my extra space
).

yeah just keep checking the merchants, some of the packs for sale "replenish" also as I have at times gotten 3 packs from the same merchants (I think the camp merchant is like this not sure thought).
