Well they've got the experience and EA are certainly big enough and rich enough to lend whatever resources that Mass Effect PVP would need. PvP in a shooter is one of the few gameplay modes that Bioware haven't done yet, and the co-op mode seems to be a huge success, and Bioware are always looking for ways to increase their audience... I think PvP is just inevitable to be honest.
When pvp does come, I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting quite sick of hitscan weapons dominating the gameplay, and I for one would like to see a shooter that focuses on dodgable projectile weapons like rockets, grenades, biotic energy melee more than the simple point and shoot guns that make up the majority of weapons in military shooters and Gears of War.
Is PVP next for Bioware?

I really don't think the game mechanics would support PvP very well. The game seems pretty transparently designed for PvE exclusively, and I am perfectly fine with that.
I wouldn't mind alternative stage modes, but I imagine differing enemy varieties will change things up quite a bit.

I hope not, otherwise it will be sucky like Halo 2 singleplayer balance all over again.

It wouldn't be the first time that biotic type magic powers have mixed with competitive shooters. Games like Jedi Knight with its force powers for example. If Jedi Knight can do it, Mass Effect can too. Team Fortress 2 is another excellent analogy. That game was full of magic like abilities such as cloak, damage shields, support abilities such as healing invulnerability, deflection, anti-cloak, teleportation, turrets etc. and it even had the Mass Effect equivilent of biotic charge.
I don't think we need to worry about Mass Effects pvp compatability. Making it work as it should would be a difficult trick to pull though so I don't know if Bioware would try it.

I think they need to do seperate rules for the PVP if they want to make it work.
But I don't really care for it. I like the coop.

As a stand alone installment having nothing to do with ME3.
They already said adding MP was not easy not because of resources or specialist requirements, but more of a setting problem.
MP in post ME3 might be interesting. Merc activity, resistances, rebellions, new factions...
As tetris said, balance may be the least of out concern. PvP may be a feature, but it doesn't have to be the main focus. Objectives and such should also be a concern.
It could work.
As long as Bioware makes the gameplay make sense...

If they do it properly, then theres alot of really cool mechanics for PvP. It could be fun and different.
Just as long as not biotic CC can hit on shields.

I certainly hope not.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the MP portion of the demo. But I wouldn't care if it didn't have an MP portion.
I buy BioWare games because they are (or were, it's often up to debate recently) RPGs. That's what I care for. Story, characers, immersion, choices.

I could see it happening, I don't think most people would like the idea though. But I wouldn't be surprised if it happens somewhere down the line in which case they really have to get their balancing right which will probably be too tough to pull off correctly for a game like this.

Same, but I wouldn't say no for Co-op story campaign.

Balancing existing PVE powers and game mechanics would be a nightmare, too late for Mass Effect 3, unless they want to spend tremendous time and ressources. I don't see it happen. The Coop "Horde" mode was the best idea.
If they want to do it, they must make another game specifically built around PVP from the start.
