Being bored and mildy annoyed after a few rounds, I figure this is as good a time as any to start an etiquette thread, as i dont see one in the 1st 4 pages.   I dont want another a BSN B!7@%ing thread.   Instead, I'm hoping to come up with some good points for people new to multiplayer, and maybe we can agree on some groundrules for BSN members that play together

This isnt a free for all fragfest, ME3 is a team based game.  You need to worry about more than just your own ass, and you need to be a good team player as well as practice good sportsmanship. This is not a game about individual skills, who’s getting to the top of the leader board, and who’s getting killstreaks.

-  1st and foremost, Be Friendly!   This sounds like an incredibly stupid thing to say.  But so far, playing with Mass Effect fans has been a surprisingly positive experiance, compared to GoW, Halo, CoD ect.   People have been friendly, quick to revive me, and helping each other out on how to play, character builds, even the controls so far.  Lets keep it that way.

-Dont quit mid game!   I cant say this enough, its a cardinal sin of team based games!   Even if your fellow players aren't very good, be a good sport and finish the match.

-When a group is 1st forming up, dont make the rest of the lobby wait on you while you're screwing around in menus.  Of course after a round or two is completed, its permissable to do some equiping and upgrading with the new goodies you bought.  But if theres going to be significant menu time, or you have to be AFK for a bit, please drop out of the lobby, or tell us over the mike.

-If you're playing with a friend, please keep conversations in party chat instead of the group.  We want to focus on calling out that phantom or turret, not hear about that crazy party you went to last thursday.

-With the exception of Vanguards and Infiltrators, dont go running off by yourself.  Your team is unable to help you, you'll more than likely die, and  your unable to cover and assist your fellow players, who are counting on teamwork.   Krogans, do your thing but dont get too far away, you're less able to escape than a vanguard or infiltrator if you get in trouble.

-Revive your teamates if you can.  It helps them get playing and enjoying the game again, and helps you by throwing up another gun.  And very often, the person you revive ends up saving you.

-This ones a personal suggestion, but if you have the choice between hanging back and saving yourself while multiple teamates are bleeding out by each other, or taking out that last phantom or atlas at the end of the round, be a sport and go for the self sacrifice.  Vanguards are great about this. (god bless those suicidal nuts) I just got impaled by a phantom raising up 2 squadies.  At least i died a hero :)

-At the same time, dont get mad if somebody cant make it to you when you go down.   Sometimes its just to far, or theres too many enemies.   It sucks, but it happens.  Sometimes we just cant get to you.

-Dont complain about "kill stealing"   ME3 Multiplayer is a cooperative team based game,  its about the galaxy's best coming together to defeat the reapers and accomplish the missions no one else can.  Teamwork and getting through to extraction together should be the name of the game.  And for those of you who really care about the stats, the points awarded for a kill are weighted on damage done.  If you do most of the work, you get most of the points.  Whoever gets the final bullet is largely irrelevant

-Its acceptable to request somebody change characters to balance out a team.  Nothing wrong with politely asking for a sentinal or adept if theres 3 infiltrators in the party.

-Its not acceptable to complain about somebody playing a class that you personaly dislike.   We all have our favorite characters that we want to have fun with.  Dont hate on the vanguard just because you played with a bad one before, and dont start making Halo jokes if somebodys playing a human soldier.  Unless they're funny jokes.

-Watch your buddies back.  2 Man teams work out great, you can pair long range/short range,  defense stripping/damage dealing, ect and revive each other.  Also, if your running with a partner, dont just leave him all of a sudden.  Its not fun to think you have backup, only to turn around and find yourself alone. (and dying shortly after)   Vanguards/krogan may seem invincible at times, but they can get overwhelmed, sometimes quicker than you think.

-Get to the evac zone.   Its 3x more points for the team for a full extraction.

-Unless you make a prior arrangement with your party, dont bring low level characters out in Gold/Silver.   You won't end up "powerleveling."   You will end up dying, and gimping your team, which isnt fair to anybody.

-Please try not to swear either.  Im not against it personaly, I swear like a drunken sailor at home.   But online, you may be playing with people who get offended by it.  More importantly, you might be playing with children.   Not everyone who loves mass effect is in their 20s.  I wouldnt want my kids learning new words for homosexuals and female anatomy playing a videogame, and it would royally suck if some kid had his game taken away because his parents heard a string of swearing coming through the TV.

-Remember you're playing on the internet, and people will have a wide range of views and opinions.  Nows not the time to get into race, religion, politics, the moon landings or Ashley's new hair.  Lets just play the game.

-Dont Freak out over hearing a womans voice.  Its 2012.  Women play videogames.  Get used to it.

-The mic is not food, it doesnt go in your mouth.

-Finally, ITS JUST A GAME.  Chill out, have fun.

- All experience & credits gains are pooled, everyone earns the same amount at the end. The scoreboard is just merely a way to see who was the best on the team (e-peen flexing).   -Dezman8

- If there is a upload mission get yourself to the zone and help the upload. If it is an high value target, move as a group to the target especially if it is the Wave 10 high value targets. If people go down it doesn't matter, finish the missions since that's where the money is.  - Sidney

-please be aware of turrets.    ~ Sharrack

-I've seen a few posts lately requesting that
people not use kinect as a mic b/c it's causing an echo and annoying
everyone. This does happen for some people but the kinect itself isn't
the problem - it's not having your audio calibrated correctly. When
you do the audio calibration it will tell you to turn the volume up to a
"loud but comfortable level". Ignore that - crank it to 11, hold your
ears, and finish calibrating. When you turn it back down to a
reasonable level, that echo should be cleared up.  Do your calibrations right, make Garrus proud, and don't be a vorcha with kinect!   -  Supergeek

note:  Any good suggestions I'll edit onto the front page.  If this turns into a good thread, I'll try to organize this post a bit more.

Stick together on Silver and Gold difficulties instead of going to your own corners of the map.

I'm adding Salarian Infiltrator. I can wander all over the map by myself with no sweat... as a matter of fact I am the one going to rez that lone wolf dieing far away from the team.

As a common campaigner for the rights of lesser species, I resent your use of the Vorcha race! It is demeaning & only further enforces their brutality to the Alliance & Council. Expect to be filed a law suit within days.

In other news...I give this thread +1! I've been lucky so far & come across VERY little in the way of bad mannered people but as with everything internet-based, I know it happens.

Hopefully Me3 won't adopt many of the cry's from other shooters...shooters of which will go unmentioned.

Very good tips, I rarely encounter bad mannered people, the ones I did find were impossible though, especially all the complaining about Vanguards.

But please be aware of turrets. Saw a my whole team run into one. Heard the turret -> somone died -> heard reviving sounds ->turret->dead and the third one too.

Worth adding I think.

I agree with all of this, but sometimes some of these things are unavoidable.
For example, leaving in the middle of the match if you're glitching out (unable to aim, not moving, levitating around, can't hurt enemies, etc.). Or dragging on by waiting for a friend to join the lobby when you have no mic. This game desperately needs text chat for groups.

Also, not reviving your teammates if there's a phantom nearby. I think it's wiser to take care of the phantom and if necessary, finish the wave by yourself. Staying in the match > reviving everyone and losing.

One thing to consider here...  There is a bug where you can start a map with
1, or no abilities on your action bar.  There is no means that I know of to
populate your action bar if it's empty when a map starts.  I think that bug
is a good reason to leave a group for certain classes (caster types).
I hate leaving groups, but I often do because of that bug.  I'm sure
others are having the same experience.  So try to be understanding
if you're in a group and people leave (especially if you notice your
human vanguard never charges, and only fires a shotgun from range!).

But generally, I fully agree with this, and the other points.  Something else to
consider.  Sometimes, it's a ton of fun to be the only high level player in a bronze
full of new, low level players.  Also, full groups of level 1-3s can have quite the
epic experience clearing bronze!

Great list OP! Except this one:

Isn't ME an "adult" game? Posted Image

[edit] oh, and I don't see the problem of learning new words for homosexuals and female anatomy or anything of the sorts. When parents have no problems with their kids slaughtering hundreds of other human beings on screen, I fail to see the problem of name calling. But maybe Europeans have other priorities in that regard ;)

@ kiltysue - That! I forgot about that. It's infuriating. My engineer really suffers when that happens, but I man up and endure for the rest of the match.

Good writeup, OP.

This is tough, given some bugs and how long games can drag on. Still, ppl should do their best.

AFAIK exp is pretty much split even, so there isn't much use whoring kills, but rather backing up your team is just about always the best choice. The only exception is when everyone else has bled out and it's up to you to finish the wave in order to revive the team.

I was playing with a full group. One enemy left, hosting player left, everyone except me clicked on exit. Why the hell would the entire team leave just because the host left? We can just do the wave over.

I also saw a troll in the lobby who left in te last second of the countdown before the game starts. Fortunately the countdown starts over when a player leaves.

This happened to me multiple times. Perhaps it's a bug and they lose connection with you? No idea.

As for the other part, some player thought it was funny to keep pressing ready, waiting for the countdown to nearly end, then unready. Multiple times. Lame as hell.

The first thing I tell anyone I'm playing with is "Please Steal my Kills" As an Engineer, my role is to get people out of cover, perform crowd control, and be the button pusher on the objective waves.

The only thing that I would add, is that we should all keep our kinect chat mic's turned off, the feedback from them is distracting.  If you want to chat, and please do... use a headset with a mute button.

This happens for PC players if they change characters in a game lobby. To ensure it doesn't, quit you game lobby, change your character and then rejoin.

There is no kill stealing.  All exp is shared. Go play a different
multiplayer game if you want to complain about kill stealing.

Some classes are made for maximum offense.  An asari
stasis spammer is expecting the good shooters and
vanguards to "steal" that silvery debuff and make kills.
We all share the experience gained.  And it's much, much
more effective to have others spamming headshots, and
the asari moves on to setting up another headshot target.

Or imagine the quarian engineer.  Wow.  I had a super group
where I could just spam the freeze debuff.  And the vanguard
plus other shooters in the group just shattered everything!
Completely awesome . No way was that "kill stealing".
We all got huge exp, really fast.

If you're on a human vanguard, experienced groups are going
to expect you to charge around.  Just do it tactically.  If you're
a sniper class, hang around an engineer or asari.  That's
less important at lower levels where you have higher level
players.  It becomes more important in challenging scenarios.

As an engineer I'm usually stealing others kills with chain overload, especially people lining up shots on those using rockets on Noveria. *watches them fall off the legde and laughs*

Though I'd like to ask them not to shoot and knock back Guardians behind the drone I spawned, so it can make him turn round and then an overload to the back makes him lose his shield. It's the difference between 5 seconds to kill and 30.

Haha I'm the same. My favorite is overloading and headshotting a nemesis.
