I'm pretty sure the just getting in the way of my headshots.

deal with it, its CO-OP if you were any good that enemies head would be long gone by the time a vanguard gets there seriously why do you hate on vanguards.

I get the 20 headshot achievement in round 3 on silver no matter what at this point, i've completed silver and got to round 10 on gold.

I consider myself to be pretty decent.  But i still can't take out 10 heads in 4 seconds before the vanguard charges in and makes them run around like headless chickens.

I'm new to multi-player and I have a question. In the lobbies on XBOX 360 can someone tell me what the Red X and speaker symbol mean when it appears next to someone's character? Sometimes I've seen 2 of these symbols appear next to a character. Is there something we're supposed to do when we see this symbol next to our name or someone elses? I hope I'm not violating some kind of rule when I see this appear.

Red x means someone wants to kick.

Speaker is mic use

Can you explain this a bit more?  Are you saying when I see the Red X it is their way of asking us to leave the lobby?

It's the voting of kicking the player. There's four players and if a player receive 3 Red X, he/she will be kicked from the lobby. When you see the player's name, you can click on it to see what are their equipments and weapons. At that screen, at the bottom left is the kick option. Not sure why would they kick though. Probably they were waiting for their friends to join in.

If everyone in the room votes to kick you, you get kicked. Each red x to your name is 1 vote.
If you join a silver match before level 10 you'll get kicked a lot.

-This ones a personal suggestion, but if you have the choice between hanging back and saving yourself while multiple teamates are bleeding out by each other, or taking out that last phantom or atlas at the end of the round, be a sport and go for the self sacrifice.  Vanguards are great about this. (god bless those suicidal nuts) I just got impaled by a phantom raising up 2 squadies.  At least i died a hero :)

I am one such nut! You made my day sir!

This is the sole reason why I try to avoid using my mic, cause everytime I use it people start giving me the royal treatment.

80% of the time, I play infiltrator! I got cloak! I can take care of myself! I don't need you to go tank the person I'm trying to headshot! I don't need you to take the bullets for me, cause 9/10 times you'll be standing in front of my scope! >.<

I also play Sentinel and my build is centered around maximum shields through Fitness and damage reduction through Tech Armor. If anything I should be tanking you, not the other way around.

and lastly I also have an asari adept, centered around maximum Bionic Barrier, maximum power recharge reduction time and bubble stasis. Again here I don't need special treatment, if I'm in trouble I can spam bubble stasis = trouble solved.

Stop giving me the 'Knight in shining armor' routine. Believe it or not, I can actually take care of myself!

And sometimes, I'm even being met with scorn. As if to say I'm going to die on every wave or I can't aim properly.

Just explain to them theres no Love Interests on multi-player !!

Then lead them to a turret and cloak

Theres a scoreboard. So yes there is kill stealing.

and Me head shotting/overloading crowds of enemies>Nova staggering them for 2 seconds and vanguard getting roughed up.

the score board is just there to see who is getting points everyone gets the same amount of xp at the end so kill stealing is not a problem

This.

As an added note, the only "leaderboard" I have seen has absolutely nothing to do with kills and assists, but everything to do with total levels of all of your classes.

Thank you.  That makes sense. I do tend to customize a bit after a mission.  So if I think someone is taking too long, how do I get the Red X to appear next to someone's character?

Great thread. Lots of really good level headed posts. I think the most important thing for me is to remember that this is a coop game. If I had my way there would be no talk of kill stealing, in the end it's not an individual game, it only matters that someone gets the kill. The players I am most happy to end in a team with are those that end the game with the gold assist medals or revives.

Personally the only thing I would change about the mp is the way it "ranks" players in game, it encourages players to think competitively within the team, which isn't in the spirit of the game. Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing some celebrate being "first". There is no first. ;)

There really needs to be an addendum about kill stealing.

-Everyone gets shared XP. But while you may not be stealing XP for the kill for them, you might be disrupting the combo your team mate had just set up. If there are 4 guys grouped up and the quarian engineer has just frozen one, hold your fire. Chances are there's an incinerate heading for that frozen enemy in 1.5 seconds, and the explosion will freeze the other 3 guys. Getting the easy headshot means those other 3 aren't going to be frozen on the ground in a couple of moments.

This goes for biotics with singularity/stasis as well.

I disagree.  At the very least,  vanguards detonate singularity/stasis just as well
as an adept.  Soldiers instantly shattered frozen groups.  I'm sure there are many,
many other "team" combinations for fielding destructive power.

The fastest groups I've been in while a quarian engineer or adept
are groups with aggressive, team playing vanguard/sentinals/shooters.
They shatter/headshot/detonate stuff so fast that every gcd, I'm setting up
another shatter/stasis/singularity.  That does not work if people are sitting
around worrying if a kill counting epeener is going to be offended by some
other person killing a debuffed enemy.

Thanks for the feedback.   I understand of course that exceptions, game bugs, and the like come up.  I'm not trying to write a new set of commandments.  I'm more shooting for general guidelines of good ME3 manners that can make it a better experiance for all of us if they're followed.  If theres an interest in keeping this thread going, I'll try to keep editing suggestions onto the 1st post for easy reference.

-Please
try not to swear either.  Im not against it personaly, I swear like a
drunken sailor at home.   But online, you may be playing with people who
get offended by it.  More importantly, you might be playing with
children.   Not everyone who loves mass effect is in their 20s.  I
wouldnt want my kids learning new words for homosexuals and female
anatomy playing a videogame, and it would royally suck if some kid had
his game taken away because his parents heard a string of swearing
coming through the TV.

While I tend to agree
with the not swearing part, at least if you're in a PUG, I do feel it
should be pointed out.  This game is rated M, and kids have no business
playing it.  Even the multiplayer.  Period.  Full stop.  Kids do not
really need to see decapitation by shotgun 50 times in 20 minutes.

In an ideal world only people of the recomended age would be playing, but we all know this isnt going to happen.  In any case, its more about some common decency and respect than opinions on what is and isnt suitable to various age groups.   What you're saying is being broadcast into somebody else's living room.  I'm not saying you need to censor yourself or talk like your in sunday church.  A curse word slipping out from time to time isnt the end of the world.  More so dont be going "F$^% this and mutherf*&% that" all the time.   Just try to maintain some manners, thats all.  Thats what this whole thread is about

Don't run off by yourself? But I have this wacky idea of playing my Infiltrator as a CQC combatant with sneaky stealth and a lot of backs filled with bullets. Sometimes I have to take the LONG way to get there.

I'd also like to add a note to all other Infiltrators, use your cloak when doing data point missions ONLY if you're the one activating the points. Else you just open up the one you're guarding for ranged attacks.

If you're actually setting off the combo yourself, go to it.  If not, I think that's flat out rude.  Not because you're kill stealing, but because setup combos are tactical resources for the entire team, and you're wasting them.

My personal pet peeve: Dont complain about Vanguards "stealing your kills". Learn the class. I have to charge or I will die, and your offensive force goes down a noticeable amount. You killing that Assault trooper with a perfect headshot isnt nearly as important as me staying alive for 10 seconds more so I can Nova and clear a room.

I just want people to understand every class online before they complain about it.

As I play the Vanguard more I really "feel" for them. Biotic Charge is everything to me so much that I've basically downgraded my weapons to the point that I still get 200% recharge times. I really can't be all that effective shooting things so my offense and defense all depend on movement. I'm lovely when it comes time to clear areas or kill high value targets. I feel like a barely useful schlep during upload missions where I need to stay put.

If you do discover that you're going to need to leave mid game, do you think you should stick around as long as possible, or quit immediately and leave the slot open for possible replacement?

I wouldn't even start a game if I don't think I can stay to the finish the mission.

I think he meant discovering that you need to leave while playing. I would leave as soon as I discover.
