classifacation here I suppose is the enemy

Thats something i can agree with.

I hate people classifying and thus giving other people stick for their tastes etc.

Yeah, I think that is the main point of Goth and Emo songs, hatred/distaste of being labeled, with a hint of spirituality undertones.

Finally someone who gets it. (Atleast for me)

[smilie]http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-eng99.gif[/smilie] Goths aren't emos.

[smilie]http://fi.somethingawful.com/images/smilies/emot-emo.gif[/smilie] = Emos.
[smilie]http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-drac.gif[/smilie] = Goths(for lack of more appropriate smilie.

Goth.

Emo.

I'd also like to note that Denmark has emos wrong, because I know several people claiming to be emo, even though they clearly don't go for the clacification. And they stole it from America first, and then misunderstood the stereotype, somehow.

I don't know if that makes them genius or morons, but I sure hate it. [smilie]http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-arghfist.gif[/smilie][smilie]http://fi.somethingawful.com/images/smilies/emot-bang.gif[/smilie]

Wow, being emo must suck if even the goth kids don't want to be associated with them. :P

I am mostly neutral about goths. They don't tend to downgrade reality. And they are dark and serious. I love dark and serious people, especially when we're talking about dark and serious ladies.

Emos on the other hand get on my nerves. Last time 3 emos started attacking me with a word bombardment. Suffice to say that with the right selection of word I clearly destroyed them. People were asking me : What happen? What did you do? And I was like : Me? Ah? Huh? Wha?

Goths vs Emos..

Goths have more street cred. :)

The goth scene came out of the Punk Scene and sort of crossed with it a billion times.

Old school emo, which has nothing to do with the modern scene, gets a little more respect for that reason too.

In fact, the first modern reference to goth as part of a subculture and music scene is supposed to be by a Radio Dj in reference to Joy Division being "gothic punk".

Siouxsie and Bauhaus and a slew of other punk bands then got thrown in and here we are today, spooky as sin.

Wow, Pansyrocker. You actually...appear to know something about music...and the musical history involved in these terms...I'm feeling faint.

All I did for years was live, breathe, and eat music.

Eating music is the hardest part, but it can be done with ,or without, the right chemical agents.

Are you a musician, Wrex?

Glam influenced stuff.  Hard to put in a genre, but sort of T-Rexish I guess?

Ooh, excellent.  I am chock-full of ignorance when it comes to glam, but I certainly love T. Rex.  Don't happen to have any links to your material, do you?

Don't hate me because I'm emo...

Seriously though, what's with all the emo hate.. I'm actually more slacker/beatnik, probably to old to be emo at this point.. But I personally like em. They're usually pretty people, inside and out if a little angst ridden. But certainly they're one of the more accepting groups tending more towards self hatred than the hatred of others... I mean if you've gotta hate something, seems that's the kinder gentler road to take.. Better to be a hippie though.. Free love everyone..

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't old school emo came out of the hardcore punk scene and it differentiated itself by putting a pop twist on their harmonies? So in that respect both came out of the punk scene and degenerated into the subgenres that we hear today.

You know, I hear that a lot, but I totally call you for a total poser who just pretends. All danish emos. I've met danish emos who don't even like the music. And they dress in pink, wear bright colorful clothing and do not write poetry.

Their supposed reasoning for being is "having emotions". As if it was impossible for a human being to otherwise have.

This is an embarrasing question, so I don't wanna ask this to anyone I know irl:
With all due respect, i'm embarrased to admit I only have a faint idea of what 'Goth' is & know nothing about what an 'Emo' is. I need info on this so I can know what people are talking about in such regards. Also unsure if 'Goth' & Rock n Roll (sp?) are related or not, but it's been lookin like it.
I can't help but to have a hunch that i'm supposed to know this stuff as common knowledge, but sadly, i'm no scholar. I fear embarrasment if I try to ask anyone I actually know. Image IPB

You had ten days to cool down and think of a reply and this is what you came up with? I was already over this discussion, so this isl ike yesterday news, though I hazard a guess you delayed up to this point hoping you wouldn't see me in the forums anymore.

Also, as far as I recall, I was the one who rejected your friendship, not the other way around. Thanks for proving your mental maturity over it though, that's greatly appreciated.

Also, you stated earlier that you were emo since you were a teenager. I was under the assumption that you were not lying or that you figured there was a large gap between these two groups. You don't wade between them.

I used to be part of the goth scene although I was more into industrial music myself. I also used to hang out in the infamous Slimelight Club in North London for ten years. But eventually I've grown out of it and I am not even based in London any more. As I am posting in a Canadian company's forum I can recall that quite a few of my favourite bands used to be from Canada for some reason.
