Surely the biggest problem will be langauage and communication with a 50,000 year old species that was the only space-faring species of it's time, unless ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL - INSERT ILOS REFERENCE HERE

Hey BW, since the cat is out of the bag, can we at least get a name for him? Callin him the Prothean just seems racist.

Just call him Pete.... or Derek, in fact I may just refer to the DLC as 'From Derek' from now on.

Can we expect just about every single person we meet in-game to be surprised about the Prothean?
Especially Salarian scientists

Edit: If this post spoiled the surprise, that's too bad.
The Prothean is DLC, you would have had it spoiled before you even put the game in.

There is now a section where spoilers are allowed, go there with this post because a well known fact to you is not well known to everyone.

http://social.biowar...egory/347/index

Though the amount of people who don't know are shrinking all the time because of people like you putting this stuff in a thread title. You have a place to discuss spoilers, there is zero reason for you to post this in the spoiler free section of the forums.

^ Maybe so, but there are still people that would like to be surprised when playing ME3 for the first time, and don't seek out every little "well-known fact" beforehand. I am one of them.

Honestly, that argument is irrelevant because the squadmate is DLC, so sooner or later, you'd know you'd be having a Prothean because it would show it on the DLC card/page

Would it really of harmed you to not make this post in the Spoiler allowed forum? Or even would it not have hurt you, or still hurt you to put a Spoiler tag in the title?

Yes it is DLC but at the same time when the game comes out, people can't post what they want here and say "Well it is in the game you were bound to find out anyway"

Really? Because I had no damn clue about it until now. Thanks a lot for that.

There are about 10 threads on the boards about this since Microsoft posted the DLC yesterday.  I was bummed when I found out, but looking at it realistically, I would have known about it prior to playing the game seeing the description is going to be on the download page or card included in the CE.

Yeah, kind of ruined the surprise for me too. That there are other posts with spoilers is no excuse to post spoilers yourself, especially in the title. If people want to discuss spoilers they should go to one of the other boards that allow such discussions, or at the very least have the common courtesy to post a warning in the thread title, not the information others might be trying to avoid.

I think I'll probably stop visiting the general discussion board for until I've played the game through, as invariably more and more posts will start appearing giving away plot points.

edit: have reported thread for spoilers. Will stop posting on it now and urge others to do the same so that the thread does not remain on the front page.

That was my thought.  ...assuming you can read, that is.

Anyway, I want to see JOKER'S response!

I am thinking about not playing this DLC because I fear it is implemented that badly that it is better to not have him. 1 of 2 DLC characters are crap and better not had. Actually the only one I ever remember being worth it from Bioware games was Shale in DA:O.

Zaed and Kasumi were pretty cool.  It just sucked that you couldn't engage in dialogue with them while on the Normandy like you could the other squadmates.

I hope any DLC related squad mates will be more intricately woven into the game.

They were not bad but useless considering how big the crew was already. They didn't do anything another could not do.

Zaeed is one of the best companions. High weapon damage and disruptor ammo.

Kasumi's shadow strike is darned impressive for a companion ability, too.

For those of you who are sour grapes about the Prothean reveal, weren't the images taken from an artbook that will come with the CE or the separately released one?

If so, then ...?

Eh...I liked how on New Game+ you could get one of their special powers.  So they did have someting another character didn't.

I agree that their role wasn't critical, and their story (to our knowledge without having read anything contrary related to ME3) didn't have an impact on the canon, but I would hope not considering that it's DLC.  But yeah, the ME2 crew was like Slipknot!  I think one squad mate had a clown mask and played rototoms.

Same way Legion speaks English.

Do you know how long it takes a computer to learn a language? As fast as it takes to download.

The Prothieans died out and Vigil was all that was left and even he was broken and hardly able to say what he needed to. Cool idea but if they could not keep a VI in working order for 50,000 years how could they keep a living person alive that long? Even that aside having him destorys the mythical mystery around them and just makes them feel lesser.

It would have been better to leave them dead which is why Im just going to pretend Prothy does not exist.

They were never mythical. You always had empirical evidence of their existence.

All they were were awe-inspiring, and just about the only mystery about them were how they disappeared. We know that already.

What is this? Really? Why you putting the spolier in the title? REALLY? Cheers mate :(

***SPOILER DO NOT CONTINUE READING*** Oh well... now that I can't unread this I am intrigued. The Protheans were wiped out by the Reapers - or obviously not if this rumour is true??? How the hell did they survive and how many are there left? Tbh it seems too awesome to be true. If it is though I am having my Prothean buddy as my squadmate ALWAYS, they are just too awesome with their squid heads and all that. ***SPOILER***

^ you see? I don't go slapping spoilers where they're freaking completely obvious for everyone to accidentally read!

Remember the Rachni codex?
"The rachni[/b] are an extinct insect-like species that threatened Citadel space roughly two thousand years ago during the Rachni Wars".

Spoiler: Rachni Queen and Peak 15 on Noveria.  :D

To the people wondering how we will be able to communicate with the Prothean: Shepard recieved a basic understanding of the Prothean language from the beacon in ME1. Presumably the beacon was configured when they knew they were goners and they encoded data about themselves in it (like the Arecibo message). There's the scene on Ilos where Shepard recieves a Prothean distress message from a computer that the rest of your squad can't understand.

Personally, I find it a bit cheap to add a Prothean squadmate. Completely takes away the enigma.

All I'm saying, mon, is if we walk Prothean, talk Prothean and *is* Prothean, then we sure as hell better bobsled Prothean.

Prothean: On to new business. Today's mission is for all of you to go to the brain slug planet.
Dr. Mordin: What are we going to do there?
Prothean: Just walk around not wearing a helmet.

Shepard: Need I remind you that in space, the captain's word is law? I could marry the Prothean with Legion against their will if I wanted to.
Prothean: [Gasps] You wouldn't dare!
Legion: Eh, I've been married to worse.
