The problem is that news of the Prothean character DLC was leaked accidentally many, many months ago. It's clear that Bioware planned from very early on how they were going to do this.

Some game shops were letting you pre-order the DLC alongside the game, which is really going to far. It should have just been included in the game in the first place.

ah my guess was it was being made for the CE version of the game, people who buy that, need some incentive to get it ... and going dlc across all versions for that character, is just making sure, the one's who didn't get the CE can still get the character .. and yes, still gotta pay for it ... i've been more of a reader of these forums then anything else and i'm amazed at the number of people who free stuff, there's not many that create stuff and not expect to get paid for it lol:wizard:

It's about time more people complain about this. We've been waiting forward to this game for years, and they're ruining with this ridiculous day-one DLC buisness.

Quoted for truth.

This actually isn't true... There are plenty of games where I could take the bottom inch off that painting... The part your going to miss anyway... Or add something to the right hand side for example... Make it part of the CE... and tell everybody else to kiss my rear end. They aren't getting it at all.

This representation is a rose colored glasses look at the past from the eyes of nostalgia after we've forgotten all those little bits we couldn't get our hands on.  Some of which could break the game. like special weapons or powers that were over the top powerful in a few of them.

Isn't that the point of the DLC?
To explain it all?

-Explain the protheans history, their complete history and this characters life experiences satisfactory in a dlc that isnt a friggen game on its own. If I get "He was frozen in carbonite for 50.000 years" Ill slam my fist through my monitor in utter disgust over the lack of originality and storytelling.

I completely agree with this. After Dragon Age II and seeing TOR videos, I think it's finally time I divorce myself completely from Bioware. The quality has taken a noticeable dive and more and more outrages are heaped on the customers everyday. I feel bad for Hepler taking the brunt of the abuse, but she's an easy target for her past and current statements she's been making.

This new DLC news is the last straw. I don't care if ME3 is the last in the series, or that I put almost 100 hours in the previous two games over multiple playthroughs. I don't have to take this kind of blatant anti-consumer milking, and I'm not going ot.

Sorry, i shouldnt have said "all".
I meant just the part for how/why Prothy's appeared.

If somebody is confused about any part of prothean history, all I can say is: Should have played the games in order.

lol, would be a better idea if the DLC was free to people who played mass effect 1+2 or mass effect 2 new.
newcomers want the dlc? they'll buy ME2.
fans get their prothy, bw/ea gets their money. newcomers understand the story more. drinks all round.

oh I'm sure they had it in mind some time ago. Something special and more tangible than a gun that they could toss into the game. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's a DLC in some fashion still. We just get free access to it for being willing to pre-order and Spend extra money on that special edition of the game.  First DLC's in a lot of games anymore often are pre-planned things they put together towards the end with the CE's in mind and these days they are nice enough to let others have access to it as well Instead of back in the Day where they would do things like this and only those people got them.

I still have CE's of PS2 games and even a couple early xbox360 games where I have whole characters or other things that they jsut never released to the general public for buying a CE or Pre-ordering something.  many people forget these days and consider items like that somehow a travesty like they aren't getting the full game and don't remember what it was really like in games of gamers past for this kind of content.

After having bought every Bioware game since Baldurs Gate 1 (except MDK2, the Sonic-RPG and some IOS-game) up until today, Ive pre-ordered Mass Effect 3. But I have reached my limit.
With the DLC-release of ME3 and the release of a worthless Dragon Age 2 it has become abundantly clear that BiowareEA does not care about their customers, they care only about their profit. Im convinced Mass Effect 3 would have made a bundle of that, even if they wouldn't chop up the game and sell it piece by piece.

There is only two kinds of DLCs I find acceptable at launch and those are:
Collectors Edition-stuff, if you pay extra you should get something extra. These things shouldnt be things that alter the experience alot but simple stuff, like a fancy gun and a gold bathroom on the normandy.

Onetime key DLC to encourage people to buy the game new. I understand that the second hand market is cutting into your profits and if you have to do this kind of DLC to keep afloat Im ok with it. I dont like it, but I dont hate it. This would have to be something with a bigger impact on the game than the collectors edition-stuff.

All other DLCs that come at release are of the moneygrubbing, cheap kind, and I cannot properly express my hate of them.

So just as people say, the only thing we can do as consumers, other than whine excessively as I just did, is to not promote this kind of behavior by handing over our money. So I will stop doing that. Bioware, Mass Effect 3 will be the last game I buy from you, I supported you for nearly 15 years but Ive had enough.

It must be EA's version of Murphy's Law. Stuff I don't want, like Origin and Co-op I get for 'free.'

Stuff that seems like it's essential to the game, I have to purchase as DLC?

The way this seems to be evolving, it won't be long before we won't get a complete game. We will have to buy game parts and assemble it.

-Oh... Im sorry. Where was the library on Ilos? Or on the citadel? I mean the library of congress in the states is pretty big and even that doesnt have the full shenanigans on the history of the world. The codex entries I got in ME1 and ME2 were about a page of rather vague "we presume this, we presume that". No clear cut facts or written history in any complete or even fragmented form.

Was that a DLC I missed?

I love Chris closes down all the people calling for a boycott saying "Shame, you'll miss a great game!" Except you're already missing great chunks of it unless you fork out more money than just the admission price.

I'm changing my behaviors. Instead of purchasing the latest Mass Effect game, I'm going to ignore it and spend my 60$ on my dollhouse.

First post ever here, It's very sad to see Bioware abusing power like this. It's simple, you dont remove important content from the game on purpose to make money.

After launch, 6 months later they add more missions? I will gladly pay for that (although the pricing is another issue. $10 for 1 hour content [shadow broker]), but on launch? It's sad what this industry is turning to.

There is nothing essential about things like the From Ashes DLC.  he's not even necessarily going to be a companion you really like other than for the cool factor.  Then again. Garrus and Tali are all about the cool factor I suppose too.  At least in the first game they helped balance a party out depending on what you played...

I prefered Wrex and Liara myself honestly... could have done without Garrus and Tali... and would have been happier if Wrex and Liara were my companions in ME 2 honestly. But I'm a minority in that thinking.

Still doesn't mean "Prothy" is going to be a great companion or somehow particularly story altering.  heck Prothy is probably not going to know much about his races past anyway and probably be some test tube project in some form simular to Grunt that you'll basically have to teach.  But at least Grunt had an existing culture to fall back on.

How can you expect to have a full library on an "extinct" race, that has been "extinct" for 50k years?
Again, if someone had played 1+2, they would know that they couldnt find an entire history.
If you have that much of a problem with it, blame the writers.

I already paid off part of my Collector's Edition but I will participate in the boycott by not extending my Old Republic game time.

I'm going to be completely honest. I've only been on this board a couple times today, and seen 3-4 threads about "let's boycott ME3 due to DLC", or some variation. This is another thread crying about DLC.

You guys need to learn subtlety. One thread, some people will side with you. 2-4+ threads on the same topic, people will either become indifferent, or tell you to shut up because they're tired of hearing about it. And some of these people could've potentially sided with you.

Basically there's too many chiefs and not enough Indians. We don't need to hear a "different" spin on the same topic 4-5 times.

-Now Im really confused.

First you claim that if I am confused about any part of the prothean history, I should play the games in order. I thought I did that. I thought I only got fragmented facts from my Codex entries.

Now you claim that I cant expect to have a full library on an extinct race and that I cant find an entire history.

Would you care to make up your mind?
