Yeah, but there is a balancing act to be done, have to get the most suitable items to build your character around that spell, there is this arcane warrior who soloed the archdemon without using any potions. He used some warden keep items though.

Best in slot items for Mana/Stamina Regeneration:
Base +1.5 (if under 50)
Fade Shroud +1.0
Andruil's Blessing +2
The Felon's Coat +2
Libertarian's Cowl +0.5
Wade's Gloves +0.5
Wade's Boots +0.5
Fade Wall or Duncan's Shield or Warden's Tower Shield or Dead Coat of Arms +1.0
Spellweaver +1.0
(or Staff of the Magister Lords instead of sword and shield for +2.0 either way)
Song of Valor +1.0 (at 60 cunning)
The Wicked Oath +1.0 (requires DLC or DLC Items mod)

Bringing the grand total to 12 with The Wicked Oath DLC, 11 without.  All not including Shale's stone aura totem ability. Shimmering shield is -10 so, with the right gear and/or party setup, it can be on indefinitely.

Yeah, good set up, the main thing is keep your mana levels up while pounding at your enemies. However, if you are surrounded by packs of enemies who can overwhelm you, it is a different story, you don't have the adequate life regeneration or constitution to withstand the amount of attacks. Tried soloing that character?

A lot of that stuff would be standard for pretty much any AW build. Felon's Coat is pretty much the only unusual item in that setup for an AW and, with The Wicked Oath or a 60 cunning Bard singing Song of Valor, it could be swapped for Evon the Great's Mail and still maintain +10. I've never tried soloing as an AW though so I cannot say how effective it would be against overwhelm. Overwhelm damage is still reduced by armor and with Evon the Great's Mail, a Rock Salve, Shimmering Shield, and Rock Armor I can't imagine much damage would get through.

Yeah, there are certain areas like in the Deep Roads, the Brecelian Ruins and random encounters whereby you will meet packs of creatures who will certainly overwhelm you consecutively and simultaneously. Depending on whether you can amass enough experience as well as items to get that kind of built that early on might be a little too much to expect, especially if you are going to try soloing the character as early as possible. That character built probably would be towards the ending portions of the game. :)

hmmm...  Maybe it only matters in combat?  As stated above my AW walk around with it on all the time and I don't have half the stuff on that list.

Of course. Regen is much faster outside of combat.

But even in combat shimmering shield almost never goes away.... maybe two or three times all game.

Of course - fights with my AW RARELY lasted long enough to drain my mana to the point where I pulled out my sword for mopup duty...
