We love the Mako, it was very imaginative and had a nice simulation quality to it, felt like i was really exploring alien planet scapes. It's not very fast passed but the design, draw distance and atmosphere were/are still amazing. Hopefully something similar to the planetsides in ME1 will make it into ME3.

I miss the mako :(
I never had any hate for it, hell, I even wanted to order one of those shirt with the mako on it from the bioware store, but they removed them...

The planetary missions exploring with the Mako were wonderful. Such a sense of wonderment and discovery, felt almost like a Rover simulation. (which have actual issues handling terrain).

The Mako missions got dull and samey pretty quickly but the concept was sound, just (a lot more) variety was needed.

I love the mako and want it back! Sure, its physics were unrealistic, but it was FUN to drive and fight with!

I am terrible at driving that thing. I managed to drive myself off a cliff when I had zoomed in to shoot geth. I managed to get stuck in a diagonal position in some kind of door opening. I managed to get stuck in some crater in the awful planet terrain.
Exploring planets would not have been that bad when the terrain had been better. Why did they insist to make every planet one giant bunch of pointy mountains? The landscape seemed the result of someone who had first gotten Sim City and really loved the mountain option in God mode.

^^Yes^^ the god awful mountains to spent time looking for ways over/around, or sit spinning and sliding to reach an objective on the other side.

Yeah, as much as I loved the Mako, the terrain on most planets was simply uninspiring; where were the pools of lava on, say, Metgos? Or maybe a wide, meandering river dividing the map on Eletania?

I loved the make, and you CAN climb any mountain as long as you maintain an angle while climbing (cant climb straight ahead).

I did enough sliding and maneuvering, I get tired of undercarriage views as I shift angle and steer over mountains, there are planets that should give you a shuttle, it sux at them.

I loved the Mako but why did every planet have to be unassailable mountains, I drove up the rocky sides for minutes just to get over the top.

i became attached to it.
for those that dont know you cant ramm it throw the rock formation when you have to go on foot in order to obtain Liara.

But the beauty of it is that it didn't even suffer a scratch to the paintwork. We just need to dig it out of the ice or w/e that stuff was and it'd be good to go. A drunk krogan driver would complete the deal.

I really hated the Mako, because of the awkward controls and very boring/similar missions. I always felt it was very clunky and janky.

Yeah, I liked exploring the uncharted worlds, but when I realized that it ends up with the same scientific research facility with the same doors and same exact items inside, it got beyond dull. I want to carry on with the story, and sometimes being forced in those Mako missions really made it difficult to keep the pace up.

I vote to punch anyone in the face who voted against the mako. Sure there were problems with the terrain being boring or the prefabs you do missions in looking the same, but those could have been corrected. The mako itself? Flawless! Those whiners are part of the reason ME3 turned out so damn sh*tty IMO. Now they complain that ME1 was the best game out of the series. Well, serves them right.

The problem was never with the Mako itself, it was with the too-pointy terrain and the too-samey missions on those worlds.

Plus, who in their right mind builds three science facilities on a planet and sticks them at the tops of ridiculous mountains with no roads leading up? Cave Johnson??

Agree with you OP, the Mako was fab. It was the terrain that fubar'd it.

That'd be at the bottom of three salt mines with no road leading down, but I agree.

We're done here.

I too loved the Mako and the unexplored worlds. They were very similar yes but not completely the same. It made the ME universe seem massive and real, because there were so mnay desolate worlds. It just seemed realistic to me. It also added a fair degree of adventure to the game that 2 and 3 were soarly lacking.

I loved the Mako too. Lack of planet exploration really messes up the feel of subsequent Mass Effects for me. I mean, really, CDR Shepard and crew attack objectives on planets being dropped off in a barely armed shuttle on foot... or airdrop in a nearly indestructible future MOWAG platform vehicle and crash through defenses? I know which one feels "right" to me.

And come on, the climbing 89 degree slopes crap is blown WAY out of proportion. I replayed ME1 and ME2 back to back before starting ME3, and if you half pay attention to terrain to notice easier detours, there are only two–count 'em–TWO planets where you MUST scale an annoying cliff to reach something. All the others have paths cut through the mountains and alternate routes you can take which get you there much quicker than a direct over-the-mountains route. Just look at your map and be observant.
