The PC version will have a minor visual improvement over the consoles. The game hasn't been designed Crysis style to push the limits of top end PC's...not many games are. It has been designed for quite low requirements, or it didn't have it's requirements continually pushed up during it's five year development. A current budget gaming PC can max out the settings on this game on all but the highest resolutions. You get the usual improvement settings you see on any game. The ones that require little to no extra coding to implement (AA, AF, texture resolution). However there are no design improvements in game to take advantage of modern hardware, this results in an overall visual experience very similar from one system to another.

If gaming on PC's wants to be taken seriously again the whole set-up needs to be changed so the system isn't so unbelievably wasteful of resources (which are all bottlenecked by slow storage) and changed so somehow games can be designed for and written (cost effectively) to take advantage of the power of different systems. Rather than (as it's been for over a decade) just seeing the easily scalable options such as resolution, AA and AF giving anything over a base system something to do.

Agreed with wookie. As I mentioned before, I own all console + a high end PC so I have no allegiance. That being said, I bought my 360 at launch. That was 4 years ago. The games keep looking better ON THE SAME HARDWARE.

PC programming/gaming in comparison seems so sloppy because the requirements constantly are going up but the games aren't looking that much better.

Either way, I am excited to check out Dragon Age maxed out on my pc :)

PC > Console

Sadly, PC pirates are killing the PC market. Just like Xbox 360 flashers are beginning to stir up anger from 360 developers.

Studies have shown that piracy contributes to 4% of loss sales in general. Basically it's no the reason why PC Gaming is "dying", just a facet. The truth lies in Microsoft trying to knock it off for the Xbox franchise, as they stand to profit the most if they're in control of what can go in and out of the market. To be honest, PC Gaming will never die, it'll be improved upon, until the point we don't have PC's or Consoles but virtual interfaces by which we control games with our mind, haha. On the other hand, I don't support piracy.

In general software is way behind the hardware these days when it comes to both consoles and PC. Developers are having to play catchup all the time. I doubt PC games will die out and even if they did, all it would take is one publisher to release a game on PC w/o any competition in its genre and make tons of cash regardless of pirating.

As for graphics of consoles vs. PC. I know compared to my brother's PS3 and 360, the graphics on my computer (got it a couple months ago) for the same games blow his console versions out of the water. The only games that don't are console only games ported to PC some years back (Mass Effect for example).

Yeah, I am tired of hearing that phrase "PC gaming is dying" -- Tell that Popcap (Makers of Bejewled, etc) Sims, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Battlefield and soon to be Starcraft II and Diablo III. Is console gaming more popular right now? Of course it is!

It's the same BS that was spewed several years ago when the Eminem album was leaked before release. THE SKY IS FALLING! Albums sales are doomed! And yet.. it broke sales records the day it was released... *snore*

That's why games are looking better and better because devs can learn about the machine, its limitations for 2-3 years and adapt to that one machine.
When programming on PC, you have to take into account that the machines are constantly evolving, direct X is always evolving too and hardware is very different from one computer to the other (nvidia/ati, intel/amd for example, dual core, tricore, quadcore...). Thus, compromises have to be made. Either the Crysis approach (which means only a select few can see the game the way it was meant to be) or the Bioware/Larian/valve approach which means everybody play but a lot of people have overkill computers.)

Yep... or you scale a game to all systems. Just like Doom 3 did. It had settings low enough for lower end PC to run, high end PC settings and then the Ultra settings for hardware that didn't even exist then.

Either way, unless the screenshots are totally doctored, I am sure the PC version maxed out will look plenty good :)

Why does everyone restrict themselves to one or the other

I have a PC to surf, play FPS's because frankly FPS games on a console are a joke! Turning with a joypad is laughable

And I have a console to play beat-em ups, football games and JPRG's like Final Fantasy etc

Either port has an advantage over the other in gaming factors depending on the genre, I can't play Eve Online or WoW on my console and I can't use ventrilo, burn music or all the multitude of other things my PC can do on my console as well

SO why restrict myself to either, if I never had a PC how would I play NWN or even Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, but then again if I never had a console how would I play Magna Carta 2 or Enchanted Arms

Why restrict yourself to one, get bloody both unless your too young to work and then I guess you have to save up

That is why I enjoy Loneo. Honestly though, I have gone opposite of the trend. I find most console games overpriced and catered to the "Violence loving American Twitch Gamer" -- I mean, can you imagine spending $60 on some of the crap out there today?

That being said, I recognize the gems on console. I can't wait to dive into Uncharted 2. But if I can get it on PC, that is my first choice... cheaper. Tweaks/Mods. Better graphics.

I don't know about 360 games looking better nowadays. They had been getting better and better but it seems to me they are starting to cap out. As to pc gaming surviving, I have little doubt. I have all three consoles and a gaming pc but the only one I have to have is the pc. This would be true for many people I think and as long as people need the pc as a tool people will make games to be played on that tool.

I am putting my money where my mouth is, and posting screenshots from my Xbox 360. Despite the issues with the PC version, I only wish we had those problems. Once you see the Viking Ship, you'll understand what I mean I think. Also, we cannot get texture packs from independent sources, so we are reliant on Bioware to fix these issues.

Pirating has been going on ever since it was possible to copy information. Remember casettes? They didn't kill the music industry. What about VHS-tapes/DVD-R? Nope, still making movies with recordbreaking sales. So what about computer disks that have been around for quite some time (probably longer than most people posting on this forum) - nope, they're still making games/software for computers.

Claiming that piracy is killing the PC-game market is just preposterous. Pirating pc-games is easy, very easy -- but so is pirating dvds, xbox360-games and music. The only ones wanting to spread the rumour of the impending demise of pc-gaming are the ones who profit the most from other gaming platforms and console fans who echo these claims like sheep.

Is there a big difference in the PC version of the game vs the console version of the game or is it simple a "port" to PC?   Can any Bioware employees confirm there are graphic differences on the PC vs the console?

The console version wasn't ported to the PC. The PC version was ported to the console...if I am correct at least. The PC version is superior.

Indeed! As far as I am aware the PC-version was finished back in april but they decided (EA probably) to hold off release until the console ports were finished for a joint launch on all platforms.

I'd have a console if more games on them were JRPG quality rather than Madden $50 roster upgrades. It angers me every time I see a monthly console game sales report and see it show Madden as one of the best sellers.

You honestly have to be blind to the world if you don't think PC gaming is dying! What are 90% of the new games developed on? There developed on consoles and ported to PC. Not only that but there are a ton of console games that never make it to pc. Open your eyes people look at all of the MMORPG's in development for PS3. Console gaming is the wave of the future!

P.S. do i think PC gaming will totally die off? No but I think as time goes on there will be fewer and fewer games made for PC.

PC gaming has been dying for over a decade now. As affordable broadband achieves greater penetration, I expect it to continue because pirates will be pirates. Console games are pirated but to a lesser degree, but this seems to be changing. It may very well be that PC games adopt a verification system like XBox Live to stay profitable, who knows.

But piracy is only part of the problem. The other part of the problem is the gamers. PC gaming is dying because there are people who will make threads like the ones in these forums insisting "Easy" difficulty is too hard. Quality of games regardless of platform has gone down because too many people equate graphics quality with game quality. People equate immediate rewards with game quality.

So piracy might be killing games. But so are the false gamers. Unfortunately, the false gamers make up for a large chunk of the player base because these are the ones that have their parents shelling out money for their games. It's these players that will have Madden 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. And very likely will have Madden 2015 too.

When's the last time the Madden franchise actually broke any new ground? When's the last time it actually had a major gameplay change? It actually hasn't for years now. It's a 50 dollar roster upgrade. But it is continually one the best selling console titles.

That's killing the game industry.

i didnt read through all the posts, but ill let you know what i found out regarding PC graphics.  Yes the PC graphics are better, but there are also many minor bug as it looks like Bioware mistakingly put low res console tuexture folders in the PC, and that is why doors, carts, ect are crazy low res.  Im expecting bioware to patch this soon, but there already is a mod to address this.  4ACes is another modder who will be coming out with his own texture mod.  Fairly soon the PC version will look even better!

I have both a PC and a PS3 copy of the game. I am struggling to finding a significant difference worth complaining about.

I've never understood this lunacy. Why on Earth would you risk even the slimmest of possibilities of being fined hundreds of thousands of dollars or even jailed for a game you believe to be crap? You played it illegally because you disliked it. That's the worst defense I can think of off-hand. Maybe some stunningly stupid excuse will come to me later but for now, that takes the cake. Sadly, it's an excuse I've heard numerous times over the years… Makes no sense at all… *mutters while wandering off*

Without endorsing piracy in any way, to be fair, piracy is either not illigal or intentionally uninforced (with the laws passed just to placate western powers) in the majority of countries in the world.  You cannot believe how hard it was for me to get legal copies of some games when I was living in Korea- it usually entailed purchasing online and having it shipped to a residence in the US and then having it reshipped to my residence.  Believe it or not, I was actually scolded on a couple occasions for taking money away from my family by purchasing games instead of simply downloading them like everyone else in the country.

I do my MMO gaming on my PC. Everything else is, including DA:O, is played on my Xbox 360.

The best of both worlds.

The other way around.  It is a PC game that has been ported to the consoles.  The game was being developed on the PC for 4.5 years, and the last half year of the development was porting it to the consoles.  Anyways, from what I understand is that the PC version has better graphics.

I have around 400€ custom build PC and I can play with Max Settings no problems, only the resolution is not at the "Hi I have so many pixels i can even see the dust particles in game" cos I small screen that doesn´t support 8936758x743532 resolution xD as I see it Consoles are GRAPHICLY balanced so generally better than PC unless you have paid your ass off for graph card so atleast. Anyways I will play on PC and don´t give a **** about PS3 or Assbox 360... PC Rules cos you can do a lot more with even crap computer than PS3 or Assbox 360 and my comp can run every game that Assbox or PS3 200€ cheaper lol, allso you can´t pirate console game without PC xD
