Got my beta copy downloaded and ready to go. Rather than spoil the single player experience I think I'm going to spend the entire weekend pvping, the options for pvp are great, can't wait to try the world vs world.

Yeah im thinking the same think, i m going for Necromancer on launch tried him a lot on previous beta. This weekend im going to try Mesmer.

Here are some brief thoughts on the GW2 beta weekend:
-The game looks incredible.
- The feel is similar to GW1.
- The world is a living breathing entity and is huge.
- Technically the game ran like a dog and there were problems with people being forced to create characters in a server they didn't want and who were unable to transfer servers despite anet offering free server transfers for the weekend.
- Competitive pvp was great although only 2 maps were available and they were rather tight, for variety I hope the other maps are a bit more open, although the tightness of the maps means plenty of opportunities for tactical play. Not having traditional mmo type roles meant that teamwork became more tactical in terms of positioning.
- The WvWvW maps are incredible and huge with a lot of variety in terrain, the gameplay on the weekend wasn't very sophisticated consisting mainly of hte players in each world banding together in large marauding hordes but the potential is there for some great gameplay.

GW2 is vibrant and full of life; almost every single detail seems to be handcrafted with loving care. Also graphics is so pretty and it plays really smooth. Plus it's more of an MMO and it did not totally die past 25 players on the screen like other titles *cough*. I beg you to witness areas like Divinity's reach and tell me it does not impress.

All this for no sub fee.

Good game, literally.

I hope we get to visit something akin to Cantha in an expansion or the like. I really liked the design of that world.

 First of all i found the game great, classes and combat mechanic is fun, maps are huge and alive, graphics are top notch (especially underwater), while some character animations are cluncky there a lot of good skill animations. Both PvE and PvP are fun.
After all those EQ/WoW clones this game is refreshing.

And im a in lucky minortiy who havent got any FPS problems through beta. Everything high(shadows medium :)) with high res. textures. Game was running smoothly 35-45 FPS normally, 20-25 FPS in mega fights with lots of people.

Now some cons;

-Anets communtiy department failed. Official forums came late, there were no notices about server downs/ups (except some tweets...) they just need to add some news box to launcher or login screen. Many people left clueless at friday.

-They should really write that home server limit thing in huge shiny letters. You can open characters only on 1 (one) realm which becomes your home server. But you can go other realms as a guest and can play with friends ,except PVP.
Now i understand this is necessary for WvWvW stuff but game just chose my server at start. And character transfer took nearly half an hour.  And it was free in beta but you will need to pay for it with gems when game launches.

-That overflow thing was sh!t, i played with my friend, who is in the same party and friend list but we need to log out&in 4-5 times to meet in the same overflow server. That was just nonsense. Im OK with overflow servers, its better then waiting in the line but they need to solve this seperation problem of party members.

-dont know what to think about not having a general chat. While it was refreshing to playa MMORPG beta without WoW chat, it hinders community. And people wasnt very talkative in beta but i think this is related to combat being so active and people really liked the game to stop and chat. :)

- Trade house was buggy, couldnt place the same mat. second time. Game either refused it or shut down with an error message. I think game found my prices high :)

And there are some minor problems around but this was the first large scale beta and im sure they will over come most of them before start. This beta was way smoother than many betas i played.

Shameless pump :)

"Hello, everyone!

As we mentioned in the forum-wide announcement, the Bug and Tech Support forums are closed.

Our QA team has gathered a TON of data (mountains of data, in fact!) over the weekend. They are taking this time between events to dig through it all.

Chances are that the bug or technical problem you intend to submit has already been reported, due to the sheer number of people involved in this weekend’s testing event.

If you feel that your bug might not have been experienced by many thousands of people, and you’re feeling super helpful, then my suggestion would be to keep a record of it for our next Beta Weekend Event. If it has not been addressed in the next Beta Weekend Event and you experience it again, then report it at that time.

Thank you so much for your diligence. We really appreciate all the feedback you’ve taken the time to leave so far. :-)"Link

Just playing the messanger.:whistle:

 So did anyone get their net shaped after trying to download the last beta(15gb approx) I know I did. Seriously why is it so huge. I already had the client and updates from the Closed Beta, why was the download so ridiculously huge?

Hehe, it was a weekend full of GW2 for me :)
Friday-Saturday tested WvWvW,
Sunday all on PvE and crafting.

Edit:
@Morroian

Now thats some enginnering skills :) I generally liked engineer but he lacks weapon choices. We can change weapon skills with kits (flamethrower and elixir gun was very nice) but i like to play as a turret maniac.
And after getting all turrets no space left for kits :(

BTW elite elixir was so unpredictable yet so entertaining :)

Oh man please give me some crafting info.

Well it is same old crafting. Requires grinding as usual but many mobs drop salvageable items which reward crafting mats. You gather mats, you melt/saw etc. them. Make sub pieces(hilti blade etc) and then merge them.
Everything you craft gives you crafting xp which levels up your prof.

You can deposit a lot of your crafting mats to bank directly from  whereever you are. Which helps inventory management a lot.

You cant learn a lot from your crafting masters, you need to discover powerfull stuff with discovery tab.  Armorcrafting for example;

For the armour types, they seem to be based on material quality and insignia type mainly. You start with Jute/Bronze/Rawhide Leather, and upgrade to Wool/Iron/Thin Leather at rank 75, and presumably another rank of Cotton/Steel at rank 150.
You get different stat bonuses by using trophy items in the recipe, like Vials of Weak Blood and Bone Chips. You can add them directly to the crafting components for a Simple version, mix them with cloth for an insignia then add that, or mix them with cloth and thread for a masterwork insignia.
There are six insignia at each tier, each of which has a stronger masterwork version, for example:
Bronze Chain Boot Panel + Jute Boot Lining + Bone Chip = Vital Chain Boots (Simple)

Bronze Chain Boot Panel + Jute Boot Lining + Tiny Venom Sac = Festering Chain Boots (Simple)
Bolt of Jute + Bone Chip = Vital Jute Insignia

Bronze Chain Boot Panel + Jute Boot Lining + Vital Jute Insignia = Vital Chain Boots
Bolt of Jute + 2 Bone Chips + 5 Jute Thread = Vital Embroidered Jute Insignia

Bronze Chain Boot Panel + Jute Boot Lining + Vital Embroidered Jute Insignia = Vital Chain Boots (Master)
At level 75, another tier of insignia are unlocked, like before,
which add to multiple stats, and use a higher tier of materials and
trophies:
Bolt of Jute + Tiny Venom Sac = Festering Jute Insignia (Condition damage)

Bolt of Wool + Small Venom Sac = Ravaging Jute Insignia (Condition damage and Precision)

 Well after reading it it looks like a bit gibberish but i hope you understand. TLDR its not that different form other MMORPGS, discovery factor is a nice touch but there is no random discoveries. And crafted stuff not really that powerfull but at least it looks different from loots.

For cons:
Crafting UI is a bit clumsy. We cannot directly use materials from bank and there is no trade channel. Need a makers mark for crafted gear.

Edit;
Some crafted gear i "borrowed" from main forums :)

Heh I spent 2 years as a crafter in Star Wars Galaxies =P

Thanks for the info though. Sounds more robust then say TOR's crafting and not as boring as WoW's. Crafting is an important part of MMO's to me but unfortunately it usually takes a backseat to PvE and PvP content.

No problem :)
Crafting can crit btw, i wasnt that lucky tough so dont know the results :)
And there is also cooking, here what did a moderator told us about it;

Linsey Murdock.6840 said:

Cooking is considered our advanced craft. It will cost you more money, karma, and time traveling the world than any other crafting discipline.

Pro Tip: Every cooking recipe in Guild Wars 2 is a real recipe for real food in real life (or a basic approximation). If you think you are close to figuring out one of the combinations, google a recipe for the food you suspect it might be, and odds are, you can find a bunch of recipes for things like that to try out.

Also i have never been in crafting at SWG, being a bounty hunter always top priority in SW games, if im able :)

I did an expensive playthrough of PvE and PvP and got to say I really liked the game and definitely do not regret my pre-order. If anyone's interested, I'm making a couple of spotlight videos (Hopefully for all of them soon enough) and have one for the Engineer and Necromancer out that hopefully helps people who are on the fence still get a bit of an indication what the classes are about.

SWTOR beta was like 30-42 gigs and I had to DL that every time they patched except last 2 beta weekends they had. 15 gigs is small compared.

Anyways, stoked for GW2. I like to imagine what would have happened if SWTOR was made by ANet and not BW. Maybe I'd still be playing it? /lol

Anyone happen to know the dates of the Beta weekends?

For example, if I pre-order today on guildwars2.com, would I be able to participate in a beta test this weekend?

They haven't released any accurate dates. Nobody knows for sure when the next one will be, even. Supposedly there will be one more during  May. There isn't one happening this weekend.

 One of the best videos detailing the dynamic event system I've seen.
BTW , narrator has a thick accent but the video practically tells itself, ye be warned :)

Edit:
Another video about exploring.I just think it is amazing how many little things ArenaNet throws into their game.

Personally, I think Guild Wars offers too much flash, and "eye-candy".

Also, I really like the ideas behind it, and the developers - but there's really little content and difficulty for this game. It would be much more awesome, for example, if when you die, you're dead. Until some other player rescurrects you, you cannot play that char. This kind of game I'd play.

About the flash - I kinda enjoy parts of the artwork (which are not pure-bloomy and bright), but whenever a char swings the otherwise awesome sword, some kind of candy and fireworks flash and make the whole very much bizarre, and unfathomable.

This is bad, really.

Ya that was kinda cute.

Honestly I didn't like the first Guild Wars (Though that was more due to the community) but from what I have been seeing of Guild Wars 2 it seems to be a good push forward.
