So much for "armor"Yet it can easly disract a lot of gamers nowadays.
Even low level armors are very cool in GW2, and there are lots of Transmutation Stones" coming from exploaration. So you can yuse your dress for a long time.
BTW Dungeon Sets preview on all races.
You get a transmute stone or whatever it's called, and you can combine the look of one armor with the stats of another. I got one in a drop that gave me 3 times of usage.
Also the HoM rewards things are just skins so they can work for a look too. And those skins are free except for running back and forth to the HoM. lol

I have Level 4 Sylvari Elementalist(Fire)
My "main" so far is a level 17 Norn Ranger. I have 4 toons but that's the highest one so I guess it's my main.

Edit: My now level 17 Norn Ranger actually got a name that I couldn't get in GW1 because someone already had it. So either that name reserve was broken or that person never bought GW2 or that person did buy GW2 but never did the process to reserve the name. I hope it's the second because of my many GW1 names I am unsure which one to actually use since they allow one-word names in GW2.

It is F2P in the sense that once you purchase the game you don't pay any subscription fees every month (unlike every other MMO). The prices you saw are the different editions of the game(ie.standard, digital deluxe, collector's etc,) which come with different bonuses such as ingame items and so forth. So the only thing you pay for is the initial purchase of the game and for items in the in-game store but these are entirely optional. It's the way ArenaNet makes their profit without a subscription model.Fiery Phoenix wrote...
I have no real business in this thread, but I have a question concerning the game.
A while back, I recall reading news about Guild Wars 2 being F2P. This doesn't seem to be the case as I keep seeing people talk about paying for it. Apparently there are three separate editions of the game, with each edition being offered at a different price. Nothing appears to be F2P.
I guess things have changed since then? I thought it was official that the game was going to be F2P - unless I'm missing something obvious, as usual.
This plus to add to it. You can buy Gems with in-game currency as well as real world money. Gems are what is used in the in-game store. So essentially you can just buy the standard and grind your way to the digital deluxe upgrade kit that costs 2k in Gems.

Still debating whether to go with a hunter or warrior. Don't really care for pets and warrior seems to be awesome, but I i dunno...
I mainly went hunter because of the HoM rewards from GW1. Since everything is just skins, I thought I may as well make use out of the only things actually useful in the HoM namely pets.

Beautiful graphics, but I'll pass.
Edit: also the gates look like they were copied directly from Stargate.

It's not a game that'll make your head explode from an overdose of awesome, but it's enjoyable. Which is already much better than any other theme-park MMO I've tried.

Mindlessly running around in packs of 30 people, zerging Dynamic Events (which of course, are not dynamic at all, same like Rift or WAR), etc.
There's absolutely no challenge or strategy involved in PvE outside of 8 (eight, that's it) instanced dungeons.
Pity.

I gotta say, while the PvP is great, the PvE has completely missed the boat.

There lots of "hidden" challenges around maps, lots of mini dungeon type areas and zerg eating event bosses. There are lots of hidden chests/places throughout maps rewarding explorer in you with phat loot/ short NPC events/ beatiful scenery.
And dungeons have 2 modes ,Story and Explore which are different form each other.( well its the same place with same enemies but bosses differ
And each race have 3 different main stories with different choies in quests, tough some of them are really poorly written and have even poorlier(word?) VO.
And yes dynamic event are not really "that" dynamic but still they are the best ever done in MMORPG history. Better than WAR, Rift's and Pandarian's.
Game have enough PvE content for now. I just hope there are longer DE chains at end game maps with tougher combat.
Edİt : Btw GW2 sells 1 million before launch.

Arena.net refers to them as 'dynamic events', so... it's supposed to mean changing/adaptive in this context, but so far it seems more like 'do a bunch of random stuff to get XP'.

Dynamic Events, Rifts, WAR quests etc.... Have one thing in common.
They. Don't. Work.
All of them, without exception, come down to zergfests and a bunch of people mindlessly running around the map looking for xp/shards/karma/whatever.
They get old. People get tired of them. They're repetitive. And most importantly, they are completely non-challenging.
It's a zergfest. If you have enough people, you get it done, if not, you lose.
The game has "enough" PvE content.
It's just that that content is not good enough.
It's Hearts (pointless, meaningless tasks similar to WoW/Rift/etc. quests). Gather cabbages, plug water holes, etc.
It's Dynamic Events. Again, zergfests, at best.
It's 8 instanced dungeons.
No competetive PvE at all - it doesn't have to be raids, but contested dungeons are the pinnacle of MMORPG, which has sadly been forgotten since WoW came out and made everything instanced in order to appeal to a wider audience.
Doing PvE in GW2 feels like you're doing it for the sake of levelling and XP, which is exactly the opposite of how it's suppose to feel.
The original idea of leveling and PvE needed some tweaks and touches.
Doing big quests, multi-layered and hard, delving deep into CONTESTED /SHARED dungeons where the danger of death is menacing and threating, doing things in order to get your quest updates for Access/Items/etc....
And THEN, in the process, without even realizing it, you gain a level or two.
THAT'S the PvE concept that was suppose to be tweaked and refined (for example, less grinds, less mob camping), something like Vanguard or vanilla EQ2... More evolved from EQ1, just need some more tweaking.
But then WoW came in and completely ruined the genre and turned the niche market of RP gamers into a mass, streamlined s++tstorm of e-peen measuring kiddies.
EQ1/vanilla EQ2/Vanguard/etc. were about both the journey AND the goal.
PvE was about exploration, community building, danger, reward, sense of accomplishment, etc.
Today, PvE is there as convenient way for you to level, with as little effort as possible, and it all turns into massive grinds.
Just that old EQ etc. had mob grinds (which again, should've just been tweaked), and the new MMOs have pointless, meaningless little, easy, non-challening, no-thinking-required quests/hearts/DEs/whatever, that turn into dull, boring, massive grindfests.

Guild Wars 2 took all the annoying things out of every other MMO and made it super fun. I can't play any other MMO unless they copy this formula.

Seems like every MMO since 2004 that is a themepark has tried to be the next WoW. Guild Wars 2 takes aot of the boring themepark stuff like the trinity system, laundry lists of quests and mroe and makes it fun again. I've been playing MMO's since UO and I have to say GW2 is the best thing I've played since Eve Online so many years ago.

Speaking as an individual I was very skeptical about GW2 and having a blast right now. I haven't enjoyed PvE in a long time until now.

WoW is pretty static except for the weeks prior to an expansion release when world events take place to herald the new content. Thankfully Blizzard added phasing to certain areas based on quest completion, and I love this. My actions have an effect on the game world. It's not used enough, but it's a good start imo. I can douse the fires in a town and shoot down the bombers, and when I'm done the air raid is over, the buildings are no longer burning, and the forest sounds return.
I'll wait to see how GW2 stands the test of time before I make a final decision.

They took out all the challenge.
The biggest obstacle in the game is actually hitting a mob so you get kill credit before the zerg of 100 people beats down on the poor gruop of 5 centaurs.
How is that fun?
Seriously, I'm guessing the dungeons will be challenging, but you spend about 90% of your PvE time in open areas...
And I simply don't see where the fun is there.
You go around doing hearts (picking up items off the ground, harvesting cabbages, plugging water holes, killing some mobs... and you can do so without ever talking to the Heart NPC - which for a RPG, is pretty immersive breaking), or you run around finding a horde that does "Dynamic" events and you zerg everything.
There is absolutely no skill needed for anything.
No strategy, no knowledge of mechanics, nothing.
While I'm loving the PvP (though waiting 2 hours for WvW is NOT cool), the PvE feels like it was made for 10 years olds who turned on their first computer game.
You say "most fun" PvE in recent memory?
I say absolutely the worst.
At least while the other MMOs have quest grinds on rails, there's challenge there, there's competition, there's skill and strategy.
The PvE in GW2 is.... Just. Wow boring, dull, non-challenging.

Oh yeah, level 1-15 areas that are connected to race capitals, which are also connected to the main capital of the game, are TOTALLY going to have low populations before 1 week of game time has passed.Corto81 wrote...

You have a problem with the stupidly big zerg (also hi people who demand 40-man raids in all MMOs), level up a bit, and actually get more than a kilometer away from your "MMO backyard" into the wilderness. You'll find 10 people at best doing a single dynamic event in level 25+ areas
Go on, go to North-western Metrica Province and tell me the level 15 Fire Elemental boss doesn't turn groups of players into massive corpse pilesCorto81 wrote...
