The Protheans fought against the reapers before, having one on my squad seems like a tactical advantage.

He adds huge backstory to the game, especially in relation to asari and all other species' relationship to the protheans.

Liara is the most important team member to the story, but the Prothean seems to be just as important as all the others.

A Prothean companion as DLC and not included in the core game seems like an odd choice to say the least.

Nah, a live prothean isnt a huge deal, the whole series just revolved around them in a way or two.

Unless he has pivotal information on how to defeat the Reapers (Which I doubt).  No he is just optional content.

He's as important as Legion was. In that, while he doesn't do anything plot related, he's an awesome character, and gives insight into one of the biggest secrets of ME.

Kasumi wasn't a prothean. She also didn't reveal critical backstory that was otherwise unavailable.

Uhhh, I read the script.  NOTHING he reveals is relevant to the Reapers or the cycle of destruction that you wouldn't learn already through the course of the game, according to the leak.

Everything else he says is flavor text.

Why charge 10$ for a character not relevant to the story then?

They lost and didnt bother to contact any sapient lifeform for 50 millenia to warn them about the crap ahead. I am really, really interested in seeing how the hell that is going to make any sense what so ever.

Because he's a bonus character.  Why did they charge 10 bucks for Kasumi when she wasn't relevant to the story?

He`s not important to the story. I`d get him anyway though, because he`s awesome.

Understatement of the century cycle.

Okay; he`s super-ultra-mega-awesome.

His awesomeness impinges on Garrus, Wrex, Legion, and Mordin territory B)

It's actually pretty surprising how vital he was to the story based on the first leak until he got rewritten.

Final Fantasy VII.  Want Tifa and Vincent? $20.
KOTOR. Want Canderous and Jolee?  $20.
ME1. Want Garrus? $10.

Thats why I thought it seemed like a tactical advantage, they loss but if they could have done something different to change the tied of the war with Reapers, what is it and how can Commander Shepard use this information.  Thats my thoughts on the prothean squadmate, I haven't read any spoilers or played the main the game though, so I'm just guessing.

This.  I don't know how complete she was by release.  Zaeed was at least included in new editions.  The Prothean I at least know is fully completed and should come with a 'new' release at least.

With all the complaints about day 1 DLC Bioware should just wait and release it in June instead.

he isn't vital, he's a tribute to the long time fans. nothing more. you pay for waht you get

i dont understand what the big deal is...protheans are just the first step in this huge ass story....Yes they are important, but people are acting like they are as important as the reapers, they're acting like they have to pay ten extra dollars to beat the game, its rediculous. get over yourselves, this is how the world works

Could swear I was paying for a complete game, and not paying for an incomplete product that I have to invest more money into to get the product that I originally paid for.

He's a walking, talking, ALIVE, Prothean. He is important whichever way you look at it.

Sadly, I can imagine it is for that reason, he was chosen as the DLC character. They've saved an important character, a holy-****-guys-a-Prothean character and made him DLC. They didn't make him a normal squad member in the full game whilst making a Krogan, or a Batarian the DLC character.
The reason he's a DLC character is because ME fans know the fact that we can play with a Prothean is a big deal, and will be hard to resist, and are going to begrudgingly part with their cash so we don't miss out on this massive implication for the ME universe.
