Why not just have each species in each class and customizable skills to choose from?

Elcor War Elephant: Only melee, can carry weapons but not use them (other players can 'touch' the Elcor to pick up whatever the Elcor carries, like a moving ammo cache). Beastly enough to melee an Atlas to death, immune to instakills. One teammate can ride the Elcor. Ultra-rare weapon for Elcor-only: the missile launcher mounted on Atlases (this is the only weapon they can use, but cannot have a rider while it is equipped).
