So, here is my problem. With Mass Effect 3 just a few weeks away, I am going for the "Epic" playthrough and going from beginning to end (aka replaying Mass Effect, ME2, and then playing ME3 in short order) so that I can experience te series as the epic film that it should be (IMO) all the decisions my Shepard would make are relevant to me at this point in my life.  That being said, I can make all the other choices without much difficulty thanks to a solid moral compass, but I cannot seem to decide which ME character romance to pursue.

I have done all the choices in ME1 (which would be the "cinematic" choices) and having decided to play through as the default Shep (I'm saving the fun playthrough once I get ME3 figured out) I am limited to Liara or Ashley and herein lies the problem.  I like them both. Ashley is a strong woman who believes in her convictions and under her tough exterior is a sensative side. Liara comes onto the scene a "child" with innocence abound, but over time she develops and matures into one of the most badass female characters in the series.*

*On an unrelated note, who would NOT want to see the fight between Aria and Liara? Can you say re-F***ING-diculous?*

That being said, there are their drawbacks. Ashley is, essentially, a religious space racist and Liara is a tad cold and the "safe" bet. Alas, this is the curse of foresight...I know I can have both, but I must choose one...

As of now, I am leaning towards Liara. Something about that awkward charm is just really appealing. Not to mention, I think that if my Shep pursued Ash, but had to sacrifice her on Vermire, and Liara had to comfort him, that would make one hell of a twist/add a whole new level of complexity to the "romance" portion of this series. However, since I am going for the "movie epic experience" in the live action trailer for ME3, we see Ashley and Shepard kicking ass and taking names, so that has me thinking that perhaps she would be the choice that would make it into the "final cut"

Anyone want to give me their take on this?

By the way, I am not excluding the other options (Tali is a close second to my favorite romance option), so no hating on the post because I did not pursue the Miranda, Tali, or Jack options...Let's keep it civil shall we?

Space both of them, what you need in your life is a healthy dose of Javik.

Funnily enough, losing my initial love interest on Virmire and then turning to Liara for comfort was what actually happened in my initial blind run--although I was playing FemShep at the time, so it was Kaiden who died. I probably wouldn't have left him to die, but my Shepards are all noble gits, so naturally she opted to save Ashley... and the platoon of Salarians that happened to be in the same place.

Choosing Liara will add depth to the shadow broke DLC when you play ME2 and so her screen time is more than ashley and makes it more movie like. Also, ignore the CGI trailers as you know the ME2 one is impossible to make without cheats and do it your own way

These are great suggestions...Glad someone thinks the "Lost Love, Found Love" play through is fun as well. Better than the first time I transitioned from ME1-ME2 where Shep wound up cheating on Ash with Miranda (come on, she's genetically perfect AND isn't afraid to shoot fools in the dome...temptation in its most perfect form) because she was busy being a royal b*tch on Horizon.

Heh Miranda was meant to seduce the Male Players I think, My dick did the thinking there and I cheated on Liara with Miri her pants and form fitting suit that was rammed up the crack of her @ss, and even had the make out of a ****** in her outfit, she was the enchantress and seductress for the Male players.

For the best experience and some great dramatics (even if it's mostly in your head) cheat on your ME1 LI with Miranda and they if you had Ash as ME1 LI I could see some huge blow up between Shep and Ash it's already heading that way with Horizon and the email, and than the ME3 demo when Vega asked Ash "You Know the Commander?"

Ash replied with "I used to know him" Emphasis on USED.

Go with Ash and cheat on her with the tight clothed, ******, @ss ridding pants Miranda.

Gearseffect, that sounds like an awesome idea for a play-through. May do that with my Engineer-Shep.
