Okay so being a Jacob thread I expect this thread to die after a few responses naturally but I'd like to know what role he may play (if any) in the upcomming came. Due to his extreme lack of popularity I knew it was all but certain he wouldn't be back but I hope there will be at least some closure for those of us who liked him as a character and for those who romanced him. I'd really like someone to explain why Kaiden is about a million times more popular when most agree that he was pretty bland and too normal(the reason most people give for not liking Jacob). Now we have this James Vega character who looks like Jacob 2.0 (minus being black) and people are already fawning over the guy and the game isn't even out yet. Granted some people are probably obsessing over JV because we all know he was likely added for the m/m sgro and that alone is enough for some people to go crazy for a particular character. I think Jacob was well rounded and decent character and I actually liked the fact that he was one of the few people in myh crew who didn't have major issues or psychological problems. Seeing as this is the last game I really hope we get more closure than something akin to the Kaiden/Ashley cameo appearences in ME: 2. I'll never understand this bizarre bias against Jacob.
Jacob Taylor. The most unpoppular Mass Effect squadmate of all time. (romance)

Well this isn't exactly a Jacob fan thread as much is it is a Jacob themed thread regarding the status of ME2 relationships with characters who won't be returning and what role they will play if any.

I personally liked him, my male cannon used him as his second in command and my 2nd femshep romanced him with haste.

It is a shame that Jacob gets almost no love from fans. The new guy does seem a bit too similar to Jacob. It's almost as if they specially added him as Jacob's replacement. I don't get it myself but honestly I'm more concerned with Miranda. She better play a meaningful role or I'm gonna be quite annoyed.

I think James is Grunt's replacement, not Jacob's.

Jacob was my spacebro, I liked him. Apart from Kaidan who was no spacebro at all, Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, Thane, Jacob, Zaeed=All spacebros.

In terms of power classes? Yes. In terms of support roles? Miranda replaced Ashley and Jacob replaced Kaidan.

While I do not play as a femshep and have no interest in any of the male team members for romantic options, I have to say that I hope Jacob is still in ME3, possibly with a larger role than in 2. He was one of my favourite squad members (along with Garrus, Tali, Kasumi, and Mordin) and I personally want to see an expansion on the Corsairs, who they were and what his role within that group was.

If only Bioware cared about the main male LI as much as they care about the female ones.

having read the spoilers, Jacob's role worries me. however, he was one of the few squadmates featured in femshep trailer, shooting assault rifle one handed while on a run no less, so we can be absolutely sure that there will be at a minimum a mission involving him, spoilers or no spoilers.
and I'm going to just reitterate what I said in another thread that was trying to compare Jacob and Kaidan.
1. they are not the same character or even version of the same character. other then desire to do some good and being human male alliance biotics/femshep LI's, they have very little in common.
2. Kaidan gets most of his development inside the actual game. Jacob gets most of his development in Mass Effect Galaxy, and his personal development in ME2 is not as well touched upon (its also schizophrenic at times as he and Miranda switch personalities post freedom's progress).
3. Jacob had most of his useful powers taken from him and given to other characters (especialy Miranda) he's still useful, but not AS useful as he could have been. even specced properly, there are other squadmates who are more effective. Kaidan when specced properly and once you get past early levels - is terrifyingly effective. he's like Liara with tech.
4. Kaidan was the only male LI for his installment. Jacob had to compete with Garrus and Thane.
and speaking of Garrus and Thane. Kaidan welcomes most new crew members, alien or otherwise and generally tries to stay positive even when he's saying something contrary to what Shepard is saying. Jacob doesn't mince words and he speaks up against Thanne, Legion and antagonizes Tali lovers with his EDI comment (even though, lets be honest here, he tried to be nice, and she jumped on his throat, generalizing him and she did need to know about EDI). actually, in terms of personality, Jacob is more of a male variation on Ashley.

Jacob got in trouble because Hale sounded pretty flirty talking to him, and I agree the other kicker was his competition for male love interests. Garrus and Thane are a rough lineup to go against, even if you happen to be the most good looking man in the Mass Effect franchise (which Jacob is, IMO).

I don't think Jacob's cheesy final romance scene did him any favours, but I don't think he's the worst squadmate by any means. In fact, when I play on maleShep and don't have to listen to femShep being all "Take me now!" I actually like Jacob more.

I hate to admit it but quite frankly I think most people just have a hard time relating to black characters . So while not consciously disliked I think the attitude towards Jacob is just "Meh! no thanks". I mean from what i remember not many people gave that much of a crap about Jacob before ME2 came out. Certainly not like his new replacement who's already proved to be a lot more popular even before release. That's pretty sad.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. You can take comfort in the fact that this is a Jacob thread and it's bound to die a quick death.

Well, his only competition in Mass Effect 2 is a bird monster and a frog monster. Pretty easy to win that contest.
