"But the priiiiiiiiiiiize" is the worst line of dialogue in the whole series.
Jacob Taylor. The most unpoppular Mass Effect squadmate of all time. (romance)

His mouth animations were the worst! Really creeped me out. Whoever was responsible for that really dropped the ball.
He was not very sturdy in combat, so he wasn't in my squad often.
I had no character that wanted to romance him so he was pretty devoid of interesting dialog too.

Not for me, then. I don't find him particularly attractive (nor do I any of the characters), but I don't find him hideous like I do Thane. Even if his mouth does animate weirdly.Treopod wrote...
id say Jacobs unattractive looks is definitely part of the reason, most people are to nice to say it openly though.
Still, if it were mainly looks, I doubt Garrus would be so popular. Vega looks like an angry gorilla, but people are still all over that.
id say the most attractive male human character in mass effect is standard male shepard (or sheploo) and i think thats the general opinion from what ive heard. and the most attractive female (based on in game models) is probably liara (mirandas in game model doesnt do yvonne justice at all)
you cant really compare the aliens to the humans, since like i already said the people who romance the aliens do so pretty much exclusively for the novelty or if they find their personalities interesting, the physical attraction in regards to romance is pretty much limited to the human characters. (liara can be included as well because she her face is pretty much like a human)
and how does vega look like a gorilla? because of his muscles? in that case Jacob would also qualify.

Okay so being a Jacob thread I expect this thread to die after a few responses naturally but I'd like to know what role he may play (if any) in the upcomming came. Due to his extreme lack of popularity I knew it was all but certain he wouldn't be back but I hope there will be at least some closure for those of us who liked him as a character and for those who romanced him. I'd really like someone to explain why Kaiden is about a million times more popular when most agree that he was pretty bland and too normal(the reason most people give for not liking Jacob). Now we have this James Vega character who looks like Jacob 2.0 (minus being black) and people are already fawning over the guy and the game isn't even out yet. Granted some people are probably obsessing over JV because we all know he was likely added for the m/m sgro and that alone is enough for some people to go crazy for a particular character. I think Jacob was well rounded and decent character and I actually liked the fact that he was one of the few people in myh crew who didn't have major issues or psychological problems. Seeing as this is the last game I really hope we get more closure than something akin to the Kaiden/Ashley cameo appearences in ME: 2. I'll never understand this bizarre bias against Jacob.
Maybe it's because Jacob has a cougar activation field that causes FemShep to take on a 'bend me over the desk please' tone of voice when she speaks to him?

Jacob was Kaidan's replacement and he's replacing Jacob.
Vega is the tank teammate in ME3, in ME1 and ME2 the tank teammate was krogan, ergo he's replacing the krogans who I'd much rather have as they don't have the uncanny valley effect of Kaidan or the roid monster look of Vega

That' one of the main reasons given why people don't care for Jacob but that doesn't explain why no one really cared about him before ME2 came out. He didn't have a following at all like certain characters get before a game is even released e.g. James Vega. No real explenation for that one.

Yeah. But it's certainly not quoted for being good. It's baaaaad. hilariously so, but still bad.

Jacob looks like Kenyon Glover.
And it definitely isn't his looks. He looks fine.
Holy crap, how'd they **** that up? I definitely thought Jacob was unattractive (his... cheeks looked weird? I dunno.); his model looks so much better. I never thought Miranda looked weird, but maybe people who say she did were right all along. TMYK~

Such a stupid, poor choice.
It annoyed me so much I think I killed him on all but one of my playthroughs.

Exactly. I doubt anyone has an answer for that. Can't really use the "he's too normal/bland" or "i don't like how femshep talks to him" excuse to explain why there wasn't much excitement about him prior to release when people are already going crazy over James Vega who's just some new alliance soldier guy. Any takers?

Casey Hudson said he and Miranda are important characters so expect him to be there.
Yeah, I'm especially offended by the off-color remarks about Jacob, aside from the valid criticisms of poorly developed aspects of his character. Someone had the nerve to say he was "stereotypically Black", which was especially offensive.
Ranting aside, I think people forget that when you're really in service, you don't do all the crazy stuff half of the characters were doing. I guess it's more or less an entitlement mentality.

I don't beleive he had a reveal trailer. or voice actor spotlight with voice actor being relatively well know screen actor. or multiple released screenshots. or strong possibility of being s/s LI.
can't get people excited about something they might not even be aware of.

James Vega had his own comic issue though.
The game Jacob was featured in had a good story, but it sucked gameplay-wise.
