I understand that sprint, cover, and use are all on the same button for consoles, due to limited buttons on a controller.  But on PC there is no such limitation.

Please give us the ability to separate the "use" function.  Make it the same by default if you want, but allow it to be changed.  It's especially bad in multiplayer when I want to revive a teammate, but my character just keeps going in between cover instead.

I made a mod that does this.

(this is a newer link than what is quoted below)

I'm with the OP on this.
Related to this, it would also be great to be able to crouch without using low cover. I really miss the controls of the first game, without this "universal button" bs.
EDIT: I guess this is the wrong subforum for this discussion though, so I'll leave it at that.

It puts sprinting on shift, and leave the rest on space.  It also has an FOV fix included.

I am definitely into that. Now there's a rolling & half the time I was rolling instead of sprinting. What about most of the times? Hiding instead of sprinting!

How do you pause the game and show the hud, then? Singleplayer and Multiplayer use the same keybindings after all.
and even more important: is it possible to split up all the functions on spacebar with the c.ini?

I put the hud over on the ctrl key.  You can rebind that if you want.

By default, the space bar has the following functions: sprint, use, tapaction, and holdaction.  Tapaction is for rolling, and it only activates if you're pressing a direction, so there isn't any conflict having that on the same button as Use.  I'd like to have a different key for taking cover and using stuff, but they both rely on the same command.  I don't think anything in the demo makes use of Holdaction.

It would be nice to have this issue patched, by the way.
I can't tell how many times did I go to cover instead of reviving fallen squadmates.

Just had it happen again in multiplayer and we lost the round because of that.

sweet-as

Could I bind 'use' to the reload key then? 'Use' should of course predominate when there is something to use nearby.

It's sheer laziness on Bioware's part if the demo has been out this long and a fan has patched the game, when the feature should be in the game from the get-go. Honestly, I would prefer this scheme in the main game, and while I can live without it, it would add a layer of polish to the PC version.

Okay, here's a new version of the mod. You can now set the use key to whatever you want. Sprinting is stuck on the shift key, though, because the in-game menu just doesn't have an option for that.

Did you do the step where you reset the key binds to default?

I just checked the most recent version I put out, and an extra space was in the sprint command.  It shouldn't have had any effect, but maybe it did and somehow it didn't effect me, I dunno.  Try this newer version with the typo removed.

Bioware, once being an exclusively PC developer, should really understand this better than many Developers that do not have any PC roots. PCs are not Consoles, their controls do not work the same and they do not have the same limitations. Quite simply, we should never see a PC game with Console-like controls or a Console-like interface, ever, because it never works right and it always makes the PC version a pain to use.

Stop doing this.

PC controls have standards Bioware has roots and experience in. The player base shouldn't have to correct the controls for the developer. Not to say I'm not grateful for the game, and not to say I'm not grateful to Max for doing this, but, quite simply, he shouldn't have to.

Ok that time it worked, thanks man. I agree.. there is absolutely no reason anyone should have to do this. Having the "use" action bound to spacebar is just idiodic, im guessing there is no way to change that.

Wait, if this is so easy to do, why don't the developers implement it as a patch to begin with?

I wonder as much, but according to my last angry rant post on this issue, the majority seems to be content with the fact Spacebar does pretty much everything
