I just read a tip on the loading screen that said something along the lines of "Destroy phantoms swords to remove their melee capabilties...
Wat

Am i the only one who didn't know you could do this???? Would shotties be able to do this easily when phantoms get close? How hard are they to destroy?

I saw the loading prompt the other day as well but have yet to figure out exactly what would destroy only the sword. Not exactly a fan of getting close enough to examine a phantom and find out either though...

Takes some really fine shooting but yeah, it can be done.

Question is...is it worth it? Two scenarios:

A) Just put them down for good as quick as possible.

B) Remove sword. Suddenly, they fire their hand cannon repeatedly, even at close range.

I prefer A, hehe.

I've read that as well but if its happened I haven't noticed. I think some of this stuff may not be possible in the multiplayer to be honest. One of the tips say that you can kill the driver of the mech and ride the Atlas but so far no one's been able to do that as far as I can tell.

The loading screens appear to reference the Single Player only. Considering that we haven't (thankfully) seen any Ninjas in the SP Demo, i'm guessing, like the ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL of the ATLAS Mech, it'll be in the final game.

Very true, But peaked my intrest as i had never heard this before on any of the various threads for dealing with phantoms.

Saw this too. Would like to know how. Maybe a Sniper?

Has any one tried to do this in the SP mech fight?

Tried. Yet to succeed. Frankly, I don't see much of a point. By the time you can really focus on the Atlas, everything else is dead. So it would be getting all dressed up with no place to go.

Destroyed one with a Cloaked mantis round. Was going for head shot but she moved last second.

I've destroyed it before while trying to aim for the head.

Sounds like a bad thing to do actually. Unless you like getting chain blasted by hand-cannon.

The loading screen is for the full SP game. A lot of it isn't relevant to the demo. But it is good for figuring out a few SP features, on mine it has talked about how you can change bonus powers at any time and talked about some firing range that you can go to on the citadel(next pinnacle station?).

Their handcannon is o-****ing-p. But as far as breaking their sword, yeah, I've seen it happen in the demo.

Not to mention, the level likely serves as an introduction to the Atlas.  They're not going to let you toy with the thing completely the first time you meet it.

I once looked a phantom dead in the eye from 3 meters away on my krogan soldier.

The phantom ran.

I think, though I don't know for sure, it might be an "interrupt" thing when they do that horrible insta-gib animation and stab you through the chest. It just seems so unfair, so I feel as though perhaps they've implemented a "if you're fast enough, counter the attack" button. Perhaps we simply haven't found it or, more likely, it's simply not in the demo.

I've seen one running around with a broken sword. Actually thought it was my game glitching because she still did that insta kill on my team mate.

Phantoms and turrets are the WTF was that that just killed me leaders in the club house.

Love my vanguard vs Phantoms though.

I love being a sniper. Head popping is always a chuckle.

The Atlas guys get me a lot too, especially if there's a smoke screen down.

It can be done, but it sure as hell isn't worth the bother required. Their hand cannon thing is actually far more deadly than the sword, especially when getting swarmed by them.

Re: the Atlas mech. In the single player I've shot in the cockpit so many times the glass has broken however I've never been able to take it over. Presumably those sequences are scripted and hence not available in every Atlas fight.
