You get the CE stuff, which shouldn't include any notable content, but rather EXTRAS, like a soundtrack, an art book, some cosmetic stuff, maybe even an armor. Not a goddamn prothean.

But the prothean doesn't in any way alter the course the game.  He likely adds to your War Assets and has some interesting backstory, NONE of which is critical to the central plot.

But protheans are extremely critical to the central plot. If he isn't important, then the whole DLC is a joke. It'd be pretty amusing to see how they could possibly jam a prothean in to Shepard's squad and not have it be important.

It's not the figure, it's the margin.

You know that if TB never made this video most of this ****ing/complaining wouldn't even exist? This is mob mentality at its finest. I am not saying it is wrong I just find it hilarious. Because TB made obvious mistakes in the video and is clearly flustered.

God, so much whining.

Don't like it don't buy it, it's simple.

The game itself isn't the issue here, it's that a major part of the lore is being taken out because they feel like shaking their players down for more money.

We don't know the impact that the prothean squadmate will have on the game or it's story.

...It's a damn Prothean, it sure as hell better have an impact on the story.

Let's go back and take Legion out of ME 2; is the game still playable?  Yes, but you miss out on a huge amount of lore and important information on the Geth.

Wether it was done by a different team or not is pretty irrelevant: the fact is you have a Prothean here who isn't going to be in everyone's playthrough.  This isn't a throwaway character like Zaeed or Kasumi who could easily be used as DLC.  This has a huge impact on the lore of the Mass Effect universe, even if you can beat the game without it.  And the fact that it has been completed before the game has been sold and yet people are still expected to pay an extra $10 to get the complete game is utterly rediculous.  Make it a free downloadable if you couldn't get it on the disc (although apparently some of the dialouge is in the demo already) and package it with the new game if you must: but selling this is just insulting.  Might as well have taken Legion, the level on the Collector Ship, and most of the talk with Virgil in the first game all out and sold if off as DLC.

So again, if they'd just waited to complete it and announced it 3 months later, you'd have no problem with it?  It was always going to be DLC, you really need to just accept that.  We've known it would be DLC for months.  Just because the team assigned to it completed it in time to be released at the same time as the actual game doesn't entitle you to get it for free.

If they announced it 3 months later, I would give them the benefit of the doubt and accept the idea that it was no finished by developement time. You're subscribing to this idea that if it's released afterwards, there's a good chance that it was finished beforehand, but that's just ignorant assumptions.

TheOptimist wrote...
No, it isn't, because this character was always going to be DLC.  He has not been advertised with the game. His importance to mass effect lore is irrelevant, it is information unnecessary for you to complete ME3.  Again, if they'd sliced it up the way you suggest, far fewer people would buy it because no one wants to buy core games piecemeal.  But this content was always planned as DLC, and I have no issues with paying that money (or in my case, paying for it as part of the CE).

Content is content. Why they would develope something as day-1 DLC is beyond me if they're not trying to scam people. If you're planning DLC further down the line, fine, but don't plan day-1 DLC, you're just planning to rip people off.

People, I paid $20 extra for the CE, which includes Prothy as part of that $20 package. We all knew a DLC squad member would be part of that deal a long time ago. You want for free what I paid for? Um, how about no? Now, I didn't just pay for Prothy's DLC, but he was included in the purchase price. You should not be getting for free what I paid for. Sorry, there's no other way to slice it.

How about that I believe that you shouldn't have had to pay extra for "Prothy" in the first place? That you're being ripped off along with the rest of the people buying the game?

Then what did I pay for? A bunch of new guns, AA packs, a robodog, a digital soundtrack, an art book, etc? I bought the CE thinking, "Dang! I got a bang for my buck because I get this superficial stuff AND a DLC character! Cool!" You make him available to everyone, you take away one of the biggest reasons I bought the CE in the first place. He was advertised as being part of the CE, you can't expect BioWare to go back on themselves and go, "Just kidding guys, that guy we were gonna include as part of the CE? Yeah, everyone can have him now!"

The rest of the CE is WELL worth the $20. I'd pay for it right now if I could.

I'm somewhat worried, honestly.  I mean, I bought all of the ME2 DLC, and was happy with it, but all in all, spent about as much on the DLC as I did on the CE.
I can't see myself spending more than that, but according to Destructoid's article...really?  That can't be right.

No its the figure also thats a trivial amount, in terms of the total market and half those people will likely buy the game anyway despite their complaints as has been shown time and time again.

People aren't moaning because there is an exclusive DLC character, but because that DLC character is or at least should be pivitol to the plot.

If he's not pivitol to the plot his inclusion is utterly pointless.

CE pay for it. You can pay for it. Are you retarded or what there is nothing to complain about.

Don't you have any sence of morals or are you just so brainwashed your willing to give EA more money and reward them for this bull**** way of doing business?

Hey kid. I have money I bought CE to get DLC and stuff like that. Do I get it ? Yes. You pay for standard peasant edition and expect to have the same thing?... seriously...

I just can't see how a live prothean could only be considered 'optional' in a ME game. I'd already ordered the N7 before hearing about this, so I guess I've paid for it already, but I don't like this one bit. It makes me wonder what the plot of ME3 will be like when living protheans are now considered irrelevant and unimportant in the overall scheme of things.

However/whenever this was completed, it was still finished before launch, and a character of this lore importance would have been great either as standard, or like the Zaaed DLC - free for new purchases. As a fan of the franchise - games, books, comics - I know I won't feel I have the 'full' ME3 experience without this DLC. Maybe the game is 'complete' without it, but that's just not how I see it, and I'd bet a lot of other fans who have been here since ME1, 2, DLCs, books, comics etc feel the same way.

I guess I'll find out for sure when I play it. I was already dissapointed by the sheer volume of pre-order/retailer exclusive DLC as it is. But this really is a bit much now.

People who paid for something already aren't going to complain about it they know what their getting and their willing to reward EA, and bioware for their business practices that is ruining gaming every friggen moment they put out dlc like this... I wouldn't be whineing nor anyone else if it was part of the game regardless of edition, I don't even care about the other bells and whistles that the editions give but it should be just cosmetic things and weapons not an entire character and mission that they believe they couldn't add to the main game for whatever reason.   I seriously can't see some "other team" saying hey lets stick in a prothean for the heck of it and not tie it in at all with the main story.

then you are free to not purchase it. Thats how it works. But if you think it DOES add value, then why shouldnt non-CE players be forced to purchase content they believe adds value to their game?

To look at it another way...look at the ME2 Collector's edition. It came with Collector's Armor and AR. Yes, it was developed in conjunction with the game, since it was avaliable "Day 1." But, as you said...people dont "Care about the other bells and whistles"

So, if you dont "care" about other extras like cosmetic stuff, then you wont purchase it. Yet, people are raging because BW develops content that people DO care about, like Eden Prime mission and Prothean, yet rage when they are expected to PAY for content they DO care about? Thats ridiculous.

Basically, you guys are saying you are OK with content being exclusive to CE's so long as that content is crap and stuff you dont wanna buy anyway. But heaven forbid if BW actually makes content you DO want to own, but asks you to pay for it.

Implying the files for the DLC aren't already in the full game and will be enabled once you purchase it.

600MB+ download proves your last sentence wrong.

Implying the files in the main game for the DLC are that big to begin with.

You lost me ... that was the size of the DL when it leaked to XBL.

I've posted this a few other places, but here's my personal theory and opinion to this matter:

People may disagree, but this is a absolute circle, as in the fact if they release the bonus DLC for free, then the CE owners would complain about the fact that it was exclusive for them and they paid 20 extra dollars for absolutely nothing, however, since the CE's were sold out super fast, Bioware wanted to offer the bonus character to other people, thus creating the From Dust DLC to everyone. Now, if the DLC stuck to CE only, people would be also complaining about the fact that it was exclusive to CE, and they couldn't get it because, maybe the CE was sold out, or they didn't have enough money at the time. Face it, if it was free, exclusive, whatever, it would all end up into complaining from everyone, it was stated a long time back that it was going to be in the CE anyways. I don't really care if you disagree or flame me, but this is my personal theory.

I'd argue the character was always intended to be released as DLC.  I don't see EA passing up the chance for that money.  The best thing to have done would have been to include him with all new purchases.....but we can't change the past, so now we're stuck in the circle with people who ordered the CE for the prothean and general people who don't want to pay for day one dlc.

Neubourn. I certainly do see CE owners complaining. I see them canceling their CE's. The odd thing is it really wasnt leaked. What it was exactly maybe but the DLC itself has been there for a while. Yes, I have a problem with it. I had a problem with it long before this "OMG TB SAID IT" craze today. It didnt take a rocket scientist to look at the CE and look at the regular version and see that there was DLC on day 1. It didnt take a rocket scientist to see EA would see $$$$ by adding it to DLC for everyone. And it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see through the PR BS that Bioware is spinning to try and justify it.

All that said I also respect peoples CHOICE to think its ok and thier CHOICE to buy it. Do I think its wrong what they are doing with actual content being DLC on day 1? Yup. Am I going to speak with my money? Yup. But that doesnt mean what I believe is right and everyone else is wrong. All it means is I have diffrent standards than someone else. Mine are no better than anyone elses when it comes to something like this.

For thoes who dont understand what I just pointed out. All this back and forth on who is right and who is wrong is just a bunch of BS. Neither side is "right" or "wrong". All it is, is one side will give EA/Bioware money and be happy. Others, like myself, wont give EA/Bioware our money and be sad we arent playing ME3. It really is that simple. Its kind of like CoD. I wont give them my money for a copy/paste game but millions of people do and are happy with thier purchase.

Zaeed tells us he helped found the Blue Suns.  It offers a great deal of insight into the group.  Does it change ANYTHING in-game?  Nope.

Kasumi's grey box hints/foreshadows Arrival, but does it actually alter the game or change the ending?  Nope.

Adding backstory and lore is perfectly fine, and that's exactly what Sebastian did.  But he did NOT alter the game by his existence.  Altered your understanding, yes.  But understanding alone doesn't mean anything.

The blue suns and Kasumi's greybox have absolutely NOTHING to do with the main plot of ME2. Nothing.

Understanding the main plot of the game you're currently playing to me is critical. We probably disagree on that front however.

I won't disagree that it's a wonderful thing to have something that adds to the main plot in terms of understanding.  Do I believe that it's critical and vital if the game's plot has the ability to be understood without the added depth?  No.

So you're right, we disagree.  I also think people are putting far too much importance on one character.

If nothing else, maybe the people who keep threatening not to buy the games and/or promising to leave will finally commit to their course of action. If you don't like the DLC/feel jerked around by the company, then vote with your dollars instead of raging about the injustice of it all constantly (and/or taking the conspiracy theory route about what got done when and what was planned). You'll make your point with your wallet, and everyone else who's tired of the constant warfare will get some peace & quiet. Meanwhile, someone else will probably be happy take your canceled CE I imagine - win-win for everyone.
