Eden Prime. One step to finding the conduit and a surviving prothean? Or is it just a return to where it began? Interesting.

I'll laugh my head off if it turns out that they were buried 5 feet under the ground where the beacon was.

Oh yes let that be the case. For the sheer lulz if nothing else.

Please, let me explain this to you:

Mass Effect 3 is $60
One play-through is said to take 18-24 hours (or around ME2's length).
That means you're getting 1 hour of content for $3, never mind NewGame+

FINE! That's fantastic! That's what a game should be!

However, the DLC chracter is $10.
That means we should expect at least 3-4 hours of content out of that character. We all know that the missions included with these characters are usually 20-30 minutes, along with a bit of dialogue.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. If we paid $10 per squaddie, you wouldn't even have a full crew at $60. How would you like buying the game, getting Garrus, Ashley, Vega, Liara, Tali, and The Prothean, and then that's it? No missions, no story, no cutscenes, etc. With this kind of logic, that's exactly what you'd get!

Do you realize how contored this is? Not only this, but the content was finished BEFORE the game went gold, which means they DELIBERATELY removed important content from the game to OVERPRICE it and sell it later.

$60 - bargain
$70 - OUTRAGE

I find this a little hard to believe. What "team" was this? Was it the Montreal team, who have done Arrival and the multiplayer for ME3, or a new supplemental team that was called in to finish this while the core team were on vacation or something?

It's perfectly acceptable.  The character is not essential to the story.  He is, and always was, planned as an add on DLC, as we have known since the first advertisements for the collectors edition came out.  When they produced him is irrelevant.  They produced a game with content X that they will sell for $60.  This character is add on content Y, which is for sale for $10 more or included for free in the CE.  If they cut up the game into a bunch of little pieces, as you apparently fear, then it becomes unplayable and no one buys it.  IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE DLC, DO NOT BUY IT.  But you are not entitled to a piece of content they have deemed as extra just because of when it was produced.

Let me ask you a serious question.  If they'd kept this under raps and released it 3 months after the initial game, would you still be so upset?  I rather doubt it.  The only reason people care is because of when they THINK the DLC was made in conjunction with the real game (whether or not that has any basis in reality).  I predict that in the future, Bioware will do exactly that, denying us content we could have had earlier but for the whining of people like you, who apparently believe they have some god given right to content that the developer has decided is not part of the core game.

Complete BS.

Yeah, unless you're saying you absolutely could not have included it in the retail release which was certified earlier this month then... I don't even.

Prothean as squad-mate and return on Eden Prime. Sure as hell it's not important to the story...

SUUUURE. And yet you announced it rather early, right?

The unfortunate thing is people will never understand that this might not have been made in the first place if their was no such thing as DLC, but when people see that there's additional content to be purchased on LAUNCH DAY, you can't blame them for having oversight and being upset.

You obviously don't know how thing go in studio. They have multiple team inside the same building sometime working on different thing. DLC/CE special goods are one of them.

This leak took place before we were prepared to make an announcement about the details of that pack (slated for this Friday).

There has been a lot of discussion about the DLC offering but we wanted to clarify a few things...

- “From Ashes” includes the Prothean squad mate, an adventure on Eden Prime, a new weapon, and an alternate
appearance for every squad mate
. Note that these alternate appearances are in addition to the ones already advertised in the CE.

See! This is what I wanted back in my "Compromise thread". Now I feel a little better.
Thank-you for clarifying, Mike.

Pretty sure you can find the costumes in the CE edition of the main site.....I think.

You clearly missed the part where I pointed out that you're paying for 1/6 of the price of the game for not even 1/20 of the content.

Hopefully the upcoming video shows the new weapon and outfits.
(I hope it's the collector assault rifle, and NOT the N7 valkryie)

I really want people to understand what's going on. I realise that there are some children around here (and with that I mean actual children and thus people inexperienced in the ways of corporations, not intended as an insult in any way) who are simply trying to defend the people who produce their favourite games, but it's up to the rest of us who are older to explain how things are going to unfold.

If we allow EA to do this to us, then there will come a time where we pay 60 dollars for a barebone launch title and then fork out another 25 to 40 dollars for Day One DLC that gives us content that's been withheld from the launch disk for no other reason than that we allowed it.

Publishers don't care for the people buying their games, they care for the wallets their money is coming from. If you do not believe that, you are fooling yourself and I mean that in the least offensive way I possibly could. We all fool ourselves every now and then, and sometimes we run into something we enjoy so much that we just want to pretend there's nothing wrong, but trust me EA's head honcho's and shareholders are laughing themselves all the way to the bank if we let them.

Draw the line.

One game, one sale.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's really difficult to understand how anyone could defend this business practice. We do NOT get more content this way. We get the SAME amount of content for a higher price tag.

Yes, and even if it was true, day one DLC with potentially important plot content that should be part of the main game is unacceptable and unethical. In my opinion all day one DLC is unethical, only because if it exists, it should be part of the main game package.

I don't understand, the only difference between this DLC and digital deluxe edition is the alternative appearance for squadmates? Or is the mission included in collectors different from the DLC one?

So people that order the digital CE might NOT get the Prothean. Thats actually good news. :)

Why add a Prothean if its not vital to the plot in ME3, its massive deal to have a walking talking Prothean... makes no sense to me.

So are the Reapers going to also be DLC? I mean, since they're as inconsequential as the Protheans to the lore of the universe...

Really? Come on ... One Prothean who may or may not already be in the game as a non-squad mate for story purposes (I'm not sure but I'd expect he is) and you compare it to the big bad for the series being DLC? You're not making a very good argument if you're trying to stoke the fire.
