how has bioware not locked this thread yet?

Hazarding a guess that if a mod locked down this thread at this particular time during a much-heated debate it could come across in a negative light on them and Bioware.

I could be wrong, and just my opinion, but I suspect this thread will eventually get locked down after more info has been made available, some screenshots, etc., about the Prothy DLC on the ME main website as mentioned by Michael Gamble in his earlier post.

I was hoping for that, especially since my preorder for the CE was botch, as much as I would like for the DLC to be free, I understand that it is not, nor was I not expecting. Why give something that you know people will (most likely) pay for anyway.

Just because it is day one DLC does not mean you have to purchase it on day one. If you do not desire to spend 70 dollars on Mass Effect 3, wait a month. Or two. Then buy it, or never buy it.

I will admit that those raging about this are giving Bioware even more publicity... and the casual player who may not have paid for the dlc before will be much more likely to do so now seeing how up in arms some of the hard core fans are about not getting this already included.

In the end, this will only increase sales of the dlc. Yet another win for Bioware.

Lets be honest here, you live at you mum's and pay no rent, your mum is probably paying for the game so you really don't have a leg to stand on. Isn't it past your bed time anyway?

I'm at work.

It's 5:22 pm. I've been here since 6:00 am.

I own my own apartment. I live with no roommates.

Every bill I have is paid off in full at the time of issue.

I have several multi-thousand dollar investments, including precious metals, mutual funds, savings plans, and stocks.

Last year alone, in addition to my regular mortgage payments, I put away $9000 into retirement savings, and another $9000 against my mortgage principle.

I am a card-carrying journeyman in my trade, and I make $32 an hour base. Double that on overtime.

Yet despite all this, it is the image YOU have conjured up that people think of when I say I play video games for recreation. Because of childish behaviour such as that of the people on the Anti-DLC side.

PPl will spend 60,and a few dlcs. No one is going to pay 300 dollars, starting from a 60 barebone title that has nothing, and will not keep you tied into it. To 20-40$ dlc that adds side missions. LoL This comment must be a joke right?

 Okay, for the record?

The Prothean being in the script leak is not an indication of anything.

The script gives NO indication at what level of development he's at beyond the fact story events were written for him.

Don't claim that the script or voice files are evidence that he was in any significant stage of development, unless you want to look like an idiot.

Um, the way Bioware made it sound was as if everything was thought up and done after the game went to certification.  The Prothean being in the script shows they planned on him being part of the game from the start.

Yes, and as we know, games change during development!  Do you thinking everything in the script is set in stone?

Then they should have said so but they didn't they lied and said it was made after the game was finished.

It was made after the game was finished.  There was a good 3 months between certification and going old or so I'm told.  They made it then.  Just because the idea was older than that does not meanthe work began earlier.

It was in the script, now it's DLC that means it was taken out of the main game. It doesn't matter if they didn't work on the DLC till certification, it was part of the main game now it's DLC so SE is not the full game.

I think the term CE exclusive is getting a bit muddled. As I understood it, Exclusive meant, that upon purchase of the CE one would have access to content not available on purchase of SE. That Does not mean that they could not obtain it through DLC content either on Day 1 or later. In fact most CE and pre order bonuses seem to be purchasable around a month after release.

Not saying this is right but I think that is the expectation the gaming industry is trying to cultivate

According to who? You? Because according to me, I'm paying for my CE which the DLC character was always advertised to be part of.

Heres the problem as i see it.

CE owner: Hmm an extra squad member, I think i will purchase that
SE owner:Meh, I'll stick with the standard edition i'm sure they'll release it at some point
Bioware: It's a Prothean
CE owner:WOOOOHOOOOO!
SE owner: OMFG, DO WANT!!!!
Bioware:It's ok you can purchase it on release! woot!
SE owner:OMFG WTFBBQ! DAY 1 DLC!?!

CE owner:  Well thats not right, the CE is well worth the 80$ without From Ashes, why can't everyone who purchases the game new get it for free at launch?  Why not make it like Zaeed and Firewalker (which both I thoroughly enjoyed)?

Advertisements for the CE state "Additional Bonus Character/Mission" Not "Exclusive..." that difference says it all.

This argument would hold validity if they had advertised the DLC for SE as well. They didn't. So since it's not explicitly stated that it would be part of the SE, why would it? Just using the same logic here...

exactly, did Bioware dun goofed in this entire situation? yes, and now their stuck in a lose lose situation.

but does this give people the right to literally demand content that was made the be extra and completely optional? absolutely not it is not manditory to the game and you do not deserve to get it for free because you want it.

I have to admit this, or yell this, or something.... Add my 2 cents to the echo chamber...

My feelings are hurt.

I don’t know any other way to say it. I’m just as grossed out writing that as you are reading it, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s true. I actually feel slighted, in the same way I would if I’d found out a friend had stolen money from me. My blood is actually boiling.

I absolutely understood the Zaeed DLC. We all know how used games purchases ultimately affect developers, and it makes sense to try and incentivize purchasing the game new. But *stealing* a character away from the storyline, especially one so obviously important to the Mass Effect universe, just to grab an extra $10 from me? Just because I want to purchase the NORMAL version of the game? Just because I’m not buying an overpriced tin and book and fabric patch?

So, yeah... I’m hurt. And offended that you would treat your customers this way.

And a little sad.

...And so incredibly grossed out that this has actually made me sad.

Yet, you questioned how this "how hasn't thread wasnt locked down yet"  - Because bioware respects your ability to complain, and rant. They could be dicatorish and squash down every single statement that puts them in a bad light, but they dont. Thats character. I respect that.

It was in a preliminary version of the script when the story was very different than it is now.  Just as every movie goes through script re-writes, so do games.  This is a character that in an early version had a integral part, but after re-write was going to get cut completely until dlc saved the day and at least gave him a bit part.

Wow you take this thing wayyyyy to seriously. Bioware aren't members of your family, they aren't your friends, they are a business out to make as much money as possible and will screw people over to get it.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am here. Scathing, audacious accusations like this.

I support this post and am very disapointed in Bioware for this clear money grab.  I've been a BW fan for a long time (hello, BG1) and I consider this move to be unethical.  I hope they recant on this prior to launch since it would be very disapointing if I had to cancel my pre-order.

Go ahead cancel your order, someone else WILL buy it. **** I may buy 3-5 copies out of spite. LoL

No One will buy a bare bone game. I mean come on listen to what you are saying. A squadmate means future game will be barebone. No it doesn't,not at all. LoL

Are you really sure about that? People said the same thing back in 06/07 with the Elder Scrolls "horse armor" DLC yet it was somehow profitable. People said no one would buy DLC for a couple new guns or weapons in a game yet that turned out to be profitable. Bioware/EA is a corporation. When they see a profitable side of a business they will stick with it. I miss the days of expansion packs...

Until this thread becomes mostly just personal attacks I think it is good for this issue to be discussed and it would only reflect poorly on Bioware to lock it.

Ok.  Original script, back in the pre-development stages, he was a central character.  The issue was though that pretty much Shepard became irrelevent to the point where he was no more than a very vocal bodyguard with lots of friends and personal issues, while the Prothean carried the whole plot on his shoulders.  There was also a few points in the script where things involving him were...not good, at all.  Thus, amongst other issues, the original draft was rewritten with a plot more focused on Shepard to give the player a better sense of involvement in what is going on, that they are directing the outcome of this thing and not some 50,000 year old arrogant ******bag.

Now, he's just a bonus squadmate with altenative viewpoints on what you can already learn in the retail game, and has nothing to do with the overall plot of the game.

I've read A script, apparently now there are two, though, and in the one I read, which was months back he did virtually nothing of note.

I'm sure you read the current one, while incomplete at the time, that was used for the retail version.  The old one was really focused on him...kidnapping cliches included.  He wasn't a permanent squad member either.

They basically used the same planet and banter dialogue, but that was it.  Everything else is vastly different.
