Don't kid yourselves. Demanding free content is just as selfish as a company selling an optional DLC.

Ghost, are you really serious? What do you think the 628MB download is? Secret unlockable Fornax magazines? Give me a break. Pieces of VO and things are on the disc due to being completed earlier in the process. The Eden Prime mission and other parts of the DLC were completed later and will be in the download. It's not hard to understand common sense if your mind isn't blocked off to it.

On that last point we agree completely.

Anyone who thinks they were OH SO CLOSE to finishing it but JUST MISSED the certification process is just kidding themselves.

I'm not saying they were OH SO CLOSE, I'm saying it was never their intention to hit the certification with this. It was announced as CE day 1 DLC NINE MONTHS AGO! You understand that part, right? It was always planned as DLC, at least since that point nine months ago, so they were never shooting for the same certification date as the main game.

Thanks for making my point for me. They planned to make day 1 DLC and are trying to posit like they would have LOVED to have it as content, but they didn't have the development time.

If they just included this critical character free then noone would care.

Only recently did the EA PR machine catch up to this and start talking about seperate production teams, its all bullcrap.

I think I know why the DLC was excluded, its because the DLC was originally free with Alliance Network Pass (Free with every new ME3 copy digital or physical) but this was changed when Multiplayer was introduced and so the multi player was made the "Zaeed DLC".

It still does not make it right.

Their's no proof of that , are Prothean and Zaeed equal value.

had to make an account (and wait the 24 hrs to post) to let bioware know that this is bs. i ended up canceling my pre-order when i heard this. so now i have to wait 6ish months for a cheap used copy because i refuse to give you one more cent ever unless you stop doing this stupid stuff. let me make this clear though i dont mind the ce getting a bonus character that the standerd doesnt BUT the fact the that character is a prothean which are very important to the lore of the game and that fact that your charging $10 for it are insane. why give the ce someone like zaeed and person that has no impact on anything and theres no way a prothean wont have some impact on something. Also way not just put him in free for new copys of the game like you did with zaeed and shale?

Really? You'd support an entire character being made exclusive to a small audience? Congrats, wait until Gamestop and the other stores find out. Liara is now a gamestop exclusive!

In all seriousness no game that uses squadmates should have any that are "exclusive". And you're getting away cheaper if you didn't want the CE stuff and only wanted the character.

"Important to the lore" and "Important to the game" are two different things. I've said it before but there's a ton of great lore in the books and comics, should those all be free too?

He can't be too important , after all this is Shepard story not the Prothean.Prothean is coming along for the ride to see if he made a difference.

Which was why he was dropped in the first place in pre-development...

It has to be plan , otherwise you couldn't do dlc at all.

Yeah its pretty selfish to ask for something they did twice before with no apparent loss of profit.

Using language like that doesn't help, expecially not you in making your point.

Doesn't matter, and I'm not taking sides either way for the record.  The fact that it's become such a deal in one day makes for good marketing.  Sadly we can thank software pirates and good ole' GameStop for this growing trend in gaming.  EA/Bioware just wants to make the money back that they lose to pirates and used game sales and that's their right.  We as consumers have a right to cry when they do.  Either way EA marketing reps are slapping five as we type because I guarantee this is gonna make CNN/FOX.  You can't buy marketing like that.

Just because they did it twice before does not mean they have to continute doing it. It's your sense of entitlement that leads you to believe that.

Some are , I not defending it because it is a bit crappy. But at the same time people angry have to understand it's premium content , Zaeed wasn't premium and thus he was offered free.

Exactly. Zaeed basically sucked. No dialogue and an average mission. Hence the "free with new purchase" thing. Kasumi was similar dialogue-wise although she made some nice insights on the crew and things. Her mission was kinda fun but I loved Kasumi because I loved her abilities and kept her in my squad almost every mission, so the $7 was worth it. This is one of those things where they can reward CE buyers and offer it as additional content to the rest because presumably there will be more to the character itself than Zaeed. That being said, more to the character does not equal important to the main storyline of the game, i.e. defeating the Reapers.

Bioware is loving this uproar guys. Those screaming bloody murder and screaming boycott are drawing casual fan's attention to the dlc. They may have not even considered the dlc before, but seeing how much uproar a few hard core fans are causing, they are much more likely to purchase it now.

All this uproar has done, is guarantee better sales of the very dlc you guys are railing against.

Bioware wins again!

Any publicity is good publicity, right? I still maintain that less than 5% of people will actually cancel a pre-order or not buy because of this. Probably more like 2-3%. They'll easily make that up in DLC revenue.

Exactly... though I think the % of cancels will likely be even less than 2-3%.

oh thats so rich coming from you....

anyway to post this for the 24 time in this thread, shale and the ceberus where not "free" in the way you are thinking, they where added to new copies so that people would not buy used copies, for ME3 the alliance network and multiplayer takes that spot, so they added it into the CE and as DLC, you may not like this desicion, and i dont care, they made a choice of which to include and it wasnt the one you wanted. deal with it. this does not give you the right to spew information that is blatently false and opinionated as fact.

Any EA game published has the project ten dollar concept (This is free with new copies and usually is for the multiplayer, leaderboard portion of the game that EA maintains etc) ME2 did not have it so "Zaeed" was the "Pass".

Personally if it was me id make mutliplayer a DLC and make prothy available for everyone (This way everyone gets the full story and squad experience, SINCE MULTIPLAYER IS OPTIONAL right?)

ah but just because they will be playing it by other way doesnt mean they will be *paying* for it which is the same as boycott

It's not the same, the boycott is caused because people consider the business practice to be criminal, so those who play without pay are not boycotters, they are hypocrites.

And that's a big problem by itself now, isn't it.

I can't believe that the Bioware team truly believed a living Prothean was not vital or important enough to the whole lore and story of the Mass Effect universe to be anything more than a thrown-together DLC add-on.

Friday: "Hey mom! can I please have bacon with my breakfast?" "yes dear."

Saturday: "Hey mom! can I please have more bacon with my breakfast?" "yes dear."

Sunday: "Hey mom. Can I have ten strips of bacon with breakfast this morning? Oh! With pancakes!" "Yes Dear. But you have to clean your room first if I am to go to that much effort." "YOU ****. YOU DONT LOVE ME. WAAAAAAAH. Big Brother got all that stuff for HIS breakfast!" "Thats because he already cleaned his room dear." "but but...ten strips of bacon are detrimental to my breakfast experience! thats not fair!"

Quite right...

After what happened to that poor woman who writes for Dragon Age, I wouldn't blame them one bit if they just shut down the forum altogether.  While it is great that we have the level of interaction with our game and media developers, these days, it can be a double edged sword.  I wouldn't want them changing things that only a vocal minority forum community is clammoring for.  They should listen and consider, but not make every concession.

Plus, there really are some horrible people out there posting garbage.
