I have an amazing idea. Perhaps all you people with CE's having a crisis of faith because you are getting something that you paid for that SE owners don't want to pay for should GIVE AWAY YOUR DLC CODE to someone else who has 'only' ordered the SE.
Why would I do that? Go get your own DLC code!
I'm not asking for anything. I've already preorederd DDE so this is a non issue for me. I'm suggesting that CE owners that don't agree that Bioware should be charging for this DLC should give away their DLC code to unfortunate people who are getting the SE. They obviously think it should be worth $0 so they should not have any issues giving it away.
Oh wait, you don't want to give it away? Must be worth more than $0 then.
This is a false dichotomy. Another solution, the one which we are proposing, is instead of do a redistibution like you are suggesting, why not just lift everyone one else who wants the same experience to that level.

Right, because everyone who ordered the collector's edition KNEW that they would be getting the Prothean and didn't just find that out a couple days ago.
Actually....there was a leak months ago.......

Even if it was free, people would be complaining that it wasn't included in the full-game, that people were being forced to download it as part of a new game purchase, and that it was just a covert DRM scheme. Because that is EXACTLY what people screamed about with ME2 and the Cerberus Network. People on these forums will complain about anything... That's the reason why I haven't posted in two months and only came back because this thread was linked on bluesnews. Jeez.
even in the first leaked script where he actually had contribution to the plot, he wasnt exactly mr. exposition, he did'nt know much about is mostly all dead race, have inight into and secret last ditch plans to save the galaxy or anything like that at all, so you where going to be disapointed no matter what.

We knew that we where getting a DLC character + mission as part of the deal. We had no info on what race/gender the character was. I assumed it was something like Zaeed but then again, I bought the DDE because of the music mostly, not because of that DLC.
I still want the stuff I am entitled to because I do pay 20$ more for that DDE.

that is as sad as it is true
I don't think it's sad, as I mentioned earlier, the Protheans pretty much become irrelevant after your conversations with Sovereign and Vigil. They become no more important than the Humans, Asari, Krogan, etc. They're just one of numerous victims to the Reapers.
In fact, I would argue they are far LESS important than the Asari, Krogan, Geth, Quarians, etc. They're not around anymore! They already lost. Those other races are important because unlike the Protheans, there's more than a single survivor left to try to make sure the whole thing doesn't happen again! Therefore, they're important to the main story while the one guy left from a race that failed miserably already once to stop the Reapers is NOT important to the story. Seriously, what do people think this one guy will do when his entire race already lost to them?

Yeah but not everybody spends as much time on the forums as you do to pick up on that. I tuned out of the forums for months, guess I did that at my own risk?

only if you view the story just as the main plot to defeat the reapers.
If you look at the universe of ME, a prothean still would HAVE to be a great deal. The Hanar worship them as gods for example. And almost everyone in this universe beliefs they built the citadel and the mass relays.
If Shepard startet to walk around with a living prothean, the universe in ME would be turned upsidedown.

pretty much, although i would have liked Javick to have been cut completely, i would have bet real money that he was going to be the squadmate.

Yep, day one DLC sucks and, given the wider significance of having a Prothean team mate join us in our adventures, this seems like fan service in reverse. Poor show Bioware.
There's very little significance unless you want an African guy to tell you a little bit about Prothean lore instead of finding out from other people and the codex. Oh yeah, and a mission to Eden Prime, a gun, and some outfits. Forgot about those. There will be no significance to the main storyline of killing Reapers. Bank on it.
Ssssssssshh now Daywalker; arguing that the inclusion of a Prothean squadmate isn’t a big deal to long term fans of the franchise is the Bioware Social equivalent of telling us the world is flat. And this coming from someone who preordered a collectors edition!

In fairness Rdubs, a lot of us didn't just find out a couple days ago. There was a leak about it 9 months ago and they changed the wording but anyone with common sense that saw that initial post expected it would be a Prothean. Not everyone, obviously, but far more than a few expected it for quite a while. Some even ordered the CE after obtaining that knowledge that it was most likely a Prothean. Just food for thought.

Exactly they should have just cut him out completely and either A . not do it ... or B. Do it as an Add on later(like a month). They could have even put the DLC redeemable code in CE box by the time come out none would have cared. Capcom pulled the same game plan with MVC 3 and it worked to nigh prefection.

It was on the Xbox Live marketplace for a short time at 800 points, or $10. That's what necessitated this response by BioWare and all this rage, even though BioWare wasn't going to officially announce it until today with a video and information.

Yeah, because we all saw how excited they were to see Legion.
Seeing an alien they probably don't even know is a Prothean is going to have them soiling their pants.

The point is they were not forthright about the content that was being included in the CE. It was quite reasonable for people to assume that the mystery character was some superfluous "bonus" like Zaeed or Katsumi, not an important part of the galactic lore.
And even that's not really the issue, because the real point is that NOBODY should have to pay for that kind of important content.
YOU think it's important. BioWare thinks it's optional and I trust them. It will have no bearing or extra impact on the main story of ME3, which is killing Reapers, not "learn more about the dead race".
The day 1 DLC could have been a human squad mate that was even important to the main story somehow and no one would have cared. But a Prothean who will have zero true impact on the main story and everyone gets butthurt syndrome and claims it's important. If it's important to you, buy it. We CE owners shelled out extra for it months ago, you should too.
Also, it was not reasonable to assume it would be another Zaeed. The leak said Prothean, they said "oh that's old text". Anyone with a brain understands the plan is still a Prothean but they wanted to reveal it closer to launch when it has more impact.
Attention to detail. The "that's old text" is a common misunderstanding. His exact words were, on the matter of will there be a Prothean in the squad, "Sorry, that was a mistake from old text. It is being removed." Since the subject matter was the Prothean, not the marketing advertisement, everyone interpreted this as the Prothean was being denied. For it to read the way you are trying to defend it would have to read "The text was a mistake."
