It isn't extra, it is something that should be already in the game. The prothean squadmate will learn you many things about his people, (What nobody knows but want to learn since the beginning) there will be party banter, he will go on Eden Prime and you 'll learn some things important about the story, probably. That pretty much concerns the universe of Mass effect. That means those who won't buy the DLC will never understand some things.

Extras, what is it ? Weapons, alternative outfit, robot dog, etc etc. That's what I call extra and we will get them, even an artbook. M3 should be a complete game for everyone at the very least.

The squadmate should have been someone else. And Bioware didn't even say who would be the squadmate, when there were CE editions.

and you are naive, bioware released that because they understood that it would have been worse otherwise. Still, it is bad.

you paid 90 euros, but the main game will cost 69,69 euros on xbox. + 10 euros, = 79 euros, without everything I'll get.

I paid 85 euros. 

It. Is. Extra. Since. It. Was. Finished. While. The. Core. Game. Was. In. Certification.

Also, Kasumi came with fun extras, party banter and comments, her own mission, the whole shebang. She's still extra. Shale added a lot of interesting insight to the Dwarven lore in DAO - or so I'm told, since I bought my copy used and didn't buy the Stone Prisoner DLC. Doesn't make my copy of DAO any less complete.

those are opinions, as for 1. it was said by the developer on reddit last night, and by the ones on this topic and is propably going to be brought up when they post the trailer.

Hilarious.  Let's look at your #1: You are saying that based on what a developer confirmed LAST NIGHT, people should have know MONTHS AGO to buy the CE.  Dude let me borrow your time machine.
#2: Good point - what fans big into the lore and story would consider a critical and mandatory aspect of that lore and story could easily be viewed by someone who doesn't care as much as optional.  My position is that the core ME3 game could cover fans big into the lore too and not be something you either 1) had to luck into by buying the CE or 2) have tacked on at checkout.

The DLC has to pass it's own certification, and it's actually quicker then the full game (because of the size).

 In a way I hope that BW reads through this threads, relents and gives everyone access to the Prothean, because all the positive reinforcement that adds to the case for this is really being helped with the BSN 'From Ashes' Original Soundtrack with those old timeless favourites 'Screw you Bioware' , 'I'll never buy another game of yours again', and who can forget the seminal classic 'If you don't give it me for free, I'll pirate it just to put you in your place'.....

javick was cut from a very early version of the script due to various reasons, and when they had the time (after they filed for certification) they added him in later as an optional squadmate, this happens all the time in video games, where cut content is added back as DLC or an expansion.

I've never read a draft script yet that wasn't sub par.  There's a reason they get revised.  A lot.

It was also somewhat relevant to the (future?) plot. Which is why Legion is in the game.

Hearing Zaeed whine about the Blue Suns might be interesting to some people (certainly wasn't for me, but I hate his guts so I'm a bit biased), but it wasn't relevant to the plot. Thus, if you buy your game used, you have to pay extra for Zaeed. Again, he comes with an extra mission and new gun and so on, but he's not relevant to the plot.

Same with Kasumi (whom I love): Comes with a mission and a new gun, some interesting stuff about black boxes and ME technology, but again, having/not having her is not going to make any difference in the long run.

Do you REALLY believe Legion's interaction was because it was an important plot point?  If so then by that theory, an even MORE important plot point should matter too - oh say, how about the Collector Base?  Yet it's obvious by now the Collector Base decision means squat and it will be just a few lines of dialogue that talk about your decision if anything.  The collector base was the biggest hot-button issue of ME2, about how it would affect the future, and if that didn't matter do you really think Legion's role would be more important?
More likely Legion was put in because the EXPERIENCE of talking with him ROCKED.

How doesn't it hold water?  I'll guarantee you that this DLC is actually a printed card with a code on it.  Everyone will have to download load.  And, if you read the OP, he says that they were originally planning to reveal this today before Microsoft screwed it up.

Or in my case from.."I'll just by your  games used"  to "I'll think about when the next game comes out." 

I don't see them  backing down  this... they really can't, they case dices already.

Yeah, but that doesn't work as his existance as a CE bonus DLC was revealed 9 months ago, long before the cert process would have commenced.

well alot of the first leak was present in the second one in some form, but javick was removed completley from it and for good reason. (well aside from vega kicking the bucket.)

Do you all really believe that This Prothean Squadmate was developed after the core game was finished.They probably just made the extra Mission as DLC after the game was done by a separate team, but not the Squadmate, Even your first missions is to Mars regarding a Prothean Artifact.

Regardless of what everyone says, after the Game goes live and people start playing it, you will probably see that This Prothean Squadmate was already in the Core Game, the options of inviting him/her to the Team was just ripped out of the game so that they can offer it as an DLC. And if you want his interaction with the Universe , you have to buy it so that Bioware can profit.
Sure, his bonus MIssion probably have no impact with the Game as a Whole, but I doubt a living Prothean has no impact in rallying the universe against their common foe.

I just can't wait for all the I told you So's

( PS: sure I will be buying it , but i will experience the game without the Prothean first so that I can see whether or not he actually shows up in the Core Game and If the options to have him join was really cut from the core game so Bioware can profit, only 11 days to go )

Would you prefer he was CE exclusive?

Also, as has been stated in this thead about a dozen times already, DLC's get always thought out beforehand. Sometimes material that had been in the innitial design of the game and was later scrapped gets polished and resurrected as DLC.

Please, read this. It explains a lot of how DLC works.

Well you don't hire  independent  dev teams  just for  excluse 
Collectors Edition content  that you don't intended sell thats for sure.  


the mindless Biodrone line was not need though..man come'on there has been enough insults thrown around this place.

I have played and completed ME1 four times and I'm a huge fan of the series. I preordered a CE back on July 10th of last year. Yet I don't see a single Prothean as being critical to the main story of ME3, which is about killing Reapers. One single survivor of a race that already lost to the Reapers is not going to turn the tide of a war. That said, it would be fun to know more about the Protheans from his perspective, which is why I'm glad I have the CE and will get it included. Anyone who feels it would be good to know those things can buy the DLC. It will be proven in 10-11 days though that he will have no significant impact on the main storyline of this particular game, though. I'm sure of it.

Daywalker I agree with almost everything you say, except I place more importance on that the Prothean interaction is a critical part of a fan's enjoyment of the complete gaming experience and should be included with the main game.  Crap like shotguns and appearance packs are fine for Day 1 DLC but content which provides a more rich experience to a LOT of fans - maybe not ALL fans, just a TON of fans - should be included.

You know what kind of DLC I'd like to see?  And I'd frikkin pay as much for the game itself as to have a DLC like this?  Months from now have a DLC where you can marry or explore a social life with your ME love interest.  Or some kind of epilogue.  Now THAT would be true DLC content that people would feel justified paying for.
