The issue with that is pretty much everyone who is against the DLC want the Prothean (not even the mission, or anything else, just the character) because it's important to them to have it.  They want to hear the lore that he can provide.

They don't care what the alternatives are.  Since it will be available by launch (technically ready now), they want it and for free, as they feel that anything made during the development process (whether it was done during development or post-development, and no matter the amound of work done then) should be provided free of charge in addition to what they payed for the retail game.  Without the additional content, the game will feel incomplete and be missing a critical piece that affects the enjoyment of the game.

It simply isn't right. If the content is ready at launch then it should be made available for free if preorders or sales hit a certain mark. Otherwise, you're talking about withholding content rather than providing supplemental content.

EA keeps virtually 100% of Origin sales- so there should be a discount or code for buying from Origin at the very least. Maybe a loyalty or reward points program because otherwise it seems like more price gouging.

P.S. Is it just me or does it seem like the Biodrones and BDF need to vent on people for "asking for something for free" more then the responsable consumers need to tell you all how you are getting ripped off.

I mean the BDF is just downright a-holes in the other threads.

look, if DLC didn't exist the prothean squad member would have been scrapped the majority of the story content in this DLC would have been made post release, not to mention the prothean squad mate is an icentive for the collectors edition im regretting not ordering a collectors edition but i will be purchasing this DLC day one

Thank you bioware sincerely ive been a fan since the KOTOR days never dissapointed me even DA2 was much better than alot of people were saying not as good as the first but a good game in it's own right

It's almost like we're expected to be grateful about it.

Saying this content isn't 'vital' is also lame. Most game content isn't 'vital' these days.

Let's look at what what the Skyrim launch might have been like following such an attitude -

Base Game: 60 bucks
Dark Brotherhood DLC: 10 bucks
Companions DLC: 10 bucks
College of Winterhold DLC: 10 bucks
Thieves Guild DLC: 10 bucks
Civil War DLC: 10 bucks

None of that DLC is 'vital' either. Is this really a precedent we want to encourage?

And no, I don't believe that because I can spend more money than someone else that i should get access to game features on day that they can't. When ME2 launched I could walk into a store and walk out with the complete package. I knew as long as I bought the game new I'd have the same experience as everyone else. That doesn't apply to ME3, where only those with the extra cash to burn get the 'complete' experience.

Yeah, it's business, they can do it if they want, but exploiting your fans like this doesn't encourage future custom.

Can any one of you anti-DLC people make an argument that DOESN'T involve the slippery slope of "If we don't stop it now soon the entire GAME will be sold as DLC!"

Because we both know that won't happen.  Skyrim's guilds are part of the CORE game.  It's an established part of the game that has been present for several of the past TES titles.  Making them DLC (implying they aren't core) flies in the face of the established track record.

If you're going to use an example or analogy, make it one that actually reflects reality, not just one that suits your argument.


If you use a car analogy, make it about the optional features of the car, like leather seats and bluetooth

If it's about movies or books, make sure it has to do with DVD director's cuts and blu-rays and special editions

Don't use fallacious arguments you know damn well don't fit the situation.

It isn't quite true in modern game development - things are more iterative and less of a waterfall nowadays.

So... if you're able to defend your rights (which you should be able to anyway), shouldn't the people who do support Bioware and the DLC be able to defend theirs (which they should be able to do as well)?

No, not at all. I have no doubt that you have. I also stated that consumers are well within their rights to be upset. What I was saying is (or trying to), the people that are insulting those who are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the company now, to support them now through what is going on, have a right to defend their stance as well.

yeah i prob shouldn't have but have you SEEN some of the posts. Talk about CE edition elitism and a bunch of blind fanboyism to the point where you would buy any piece of trash Bioware shat out at a premium. Gah.

I think I have him my limit. Being a Bioware fan is not worth it anymore. The fans are no longer like me and Bioware is not what it used to be.

Sure, because it is true. 

True or not, it doesn't matter to me. I love CDPR and all, but I don't go around praising them like they are the greatest thing to happen in gaming industry.

Nor are you entitled to get content for free. You're not even entitled to games, period. They're luxury items you can choose to spend your money on if you wish, and claiming you're entitled to have DLC for free for a game you haven't even bought yet is pretty unreasonable, from where I'm standing.
